Capability Enhancement and Development

The college is bent on providing lot of Capability Enhancement and

Development Schemes. Our institution takes great care to ensure that no student is

left behind. Timely identification of the issues affecting the learning of the students

are identified by the tutors by class observation, interaction and written assignments.

Peer Teaching

The students are given a platform to engage in peer learning. They are given

different topics to interact their classmates. The students are found to learn faster

when given such opportunities to interact with their classmates. The students

volunteer to discuss various topics and also give brief lectures on the issue

discussed.

Scholar Support Programme

The Scholar Support Programme, a new initiative of the Kerala Government

for providing support for the students with learning difficulties, functions very

systematically and effectively in the college. It provides personalised additional

support to weaker students of the college, giving an honorarium to faculty. According

to this programme, six subjects in which the students have difficulty are identified at

college level. Fifty students in the college benefit from it. In this programme, turorials,

study materials, additional lectures, question banks and interactive sessions are

provided.

Academic Facilitation Centre

The Academic Facilitation Centre in the college functions creatively to

advance the skill levels of the students in the college. This consists of three labs

Language Lab, Knowledge Lab and the Skill Lab which function simultaneously to

ensure the holistic development of the students. The Language Lab aims to improve

the communication skills, Knowledge Lab is for providing special training in

competitive examinations, and the Skill Lab caters to the development of soft skills

and overall growth of the personality of the student. The three labs function very

efficiently under the Academic Facilitation Centre in the college. The advanced

learners are the members of the centre. They are given proper training and classes

by the experts to cater to their needs. The students who receive the training render

their services in improving the skill level of other students in various subjects.

Civil Service Club

The Civil Service Club in the College offers coaching programmes to the

students with the aptitude and the attitude.

Clubs and Forums

The various clubs and forums functioning in the college give enough

opportunities for the advanced learners by providing them platforms for their self

improvement and also utilise their skills to execute the various activities in the best

possible manner. The Debating Forum of the college conducts discussions and

debates on various contemporary issues. Career Guidance and Counselling Cell

arranges coaching classes for competitive examinations conducted by Kerala PSC,

Banking Service Recruitment Agencies, etc. The well functioning Quiz Club helps the

students acquire the necessary skills, sharpen their intelligence and gain confidence

by organising quiz shows and also participating in them.

The Science Parliament

The Science Parliament is another initiative which offers multiple platforms for

the advance learners to apply their acquired skills by sharing it with the community.

By participating in it they get exposed to innovative techniques in teaching and

learning science. They also get familiarized with the latest developments in Science

and technology and get to listen from the teachers attending the Science Parliament

to practical issues in teaching science.

UGC / NET Coaching

Regular and target oriented classes are given by the faculty and external experts to

the students to help them qualify various national eligibility tests like NET , JRF,

JAM, GATE etc.

Spoken Tutorial System provides the advanced students in the college

various online certificate courses offered by IITs and other nationally reputed

institutions.

Walk With a Scholar (WWS)

Walk With a Scholar (WWS), a new initiative of Kerala Government, provides

specialized mentoring programmess and proper guidance for the advanced students

in undergraduate classes. As per the scheme 30 students who get selected are

grouped under 5 internal mentors, i.e., each mentor will be in charge of 6 students

each. The internal mentor is a faculty from the college, who mentors and supports

the scholars and tries to build their career. Besides training sessions by the internal

mentors, specific sessions by external mentors are also given on topics like

engineering, medicine, architecture, law, hospitality, media, business, teaching,

administration etc.

Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP)

Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP), an ambitious initiative of

Kerala Government, is conducted in the college, with the objective of equipping

selected students with skills in Communication, IT and selected areas of industry and

service sectors, and thereby tackling the issue of growing unemployment. In the

college, the ASAP imparts 300 hours of skill training to 30 students, of which180

hours for Communication Skills and IT skills, and 120 hours for the skill sector

chosen by the student.

Learning Managemant System (MOODLE)

Our college is using various technology-based teaching and learning tools. One of

the important tools used in our institute is the free and open source online learning

management system namely Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment

(MOODLE).
