2012 … A Year In Review
Bellwood 2013: A Community On The MoveA Year of Achievements & Advancements
25th Avenue Railroad Overpass (coming 2014)
Important Update On the 25th Avenue Grade Crossing
As part of the weekly project updates he receives from project manager and village
Chief of Staff Peter
Tsiolis, as chairman
of the West Cook
Railroad Relocation and Develop-
ment Authority, Bellwood Mayor
Frank Pasquale and Village Clerk
Lena Moreland review blueprints
for the under-construction 25th
Avenue grade crossing and
bridge project, which continues
to progress without significant
delays and within budget. The
bridge is scheduled for comple-
tion in fall 2016. The project,
which will have a significant
impact on a major thoroughfare
in Bellwood, will be a game-
changer for residents, businesses
and Bellwood’s future.
july 2015
This summer is proving to be a busy
time full of progress and accomplish-
ments in Bellwood.
First, new tenants are moving into the beautiful new Senior Suites
building on Randolph Street across from the Village Hall. Inter-
views still are being conducted by Senior Suites personnel for other
prospective tenants. I want to thank our residents for their patience
during the construction of what is another impressive asset in
Bellwood. We’re proud of this new addition to our landscape and
excited to offer a new housing option for our seniors.
On another important note, based on the efforts of the Addison
Creek Restoration Commission that I managed as chairman, the
Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago
(MWRD) recently approved a project to build a retention pond in
the village that will provide significant relief to Bellwood residents.
The $100 million project, which comes at no cost to our residents,
involves building a retention pond in Bellwood that will reduce
flooding that too often affects many of our residents – including
Message From
Mayor Frank A. Pasqualeme. The MWRD is in the process of acquiring a property in
Bellwood that has been selected as the best location for the pond.
Depending on the time it takes for the purchase, the project could
begin construction within the next 12 months.
While many decisions have to be made, if the MWRD moves
forward with the purchase and begins construction on the pond,
many residents would be removed from the current flood plain,
which would mean lower insurance rates and little to no standing
water to deal with after it rains.
As you’ll read throughout this issue of the Update, Bellwood is on
the move in major ways. We remain focused on improving life for
our residents, attracting and retaining businesses of all types, and
investing in our future by shoring up our infrastructure. Those are
all examples of our commitment to the village slogan: Your Family
Is Our Future.
Have a great – and safe –
summer!
