ROSIE FLICK AND CHARLIE DUFFY SUPPORT THE LEUKAEMIA FOUNDATION

We are proud of Rosie Flick and Charlie Duffy who took part in the World’s

Greatest Shave for the Leukaemia Foundation at the Cumnock Bowling

Club last Friday evening. The Cumnock community have been extremely

generous in their support with over $5000 dollars raised to give families

facing blood cancer the emotional and practical support they need. Every

day, 47 Australians are diagnosed with blood cancer and sadly, an

Australian loses their life to blood cancer every two hours. Well done to

Jeremy Duffy, Josh Fitzgerald, Rosie and Charlie for their amazing efforts! If

STRATEGIC IMPROVEMENT PLAN

We are in the process of writing our new school plan called the Strategic Improvement Plan (SIP). Last

week at Clergate Public School, Mrs Philpott and I met with Dafydd Thomas, Principal School Leadership,

to support our collaborative development of this document for our schools. This plan is a working

document that details the steps our school will take to improve learning outcomes, and the achievement

and growth of all students. To ensure continuous improvement, the Strategic Improvement Plan (SIP)

reflects where our school is at and how it will further improve learning, teaching and leading.

Our Strategic Plan is:

• based on our school’s situational analysis and the School Excellence Framework

• a recognition of the importance of a sharp, deep focus on strategic areas to address improvement

in order to meet system-negotiated and school-determined targets

• improvement focused with a clear vision for student achievement

• a consultative process including all stakeholders

• based on authentic school practice and reflections on practice

• focused on collection, analysis, reflection and evaluation of evidence

• based on improvement measures aligned to our school’s current state.

I would like to thank Mrs Philpott for hosting this day and Mr Thomas for his guidance, support and

expertise in the development of our 2021 Strategic Improvement Plan.

WOOLLY AND MOOSE VISIT CLASSROOMS

Students enjoyed a visit from reading wonder

dogs Woolly and Moose, the Schulzs’ friendly

border collies on Monday.

SHARE OUR SPACE INITIATIVE

Over the coming school holidays, School

Infrastructure NSW is rolling out Share Our Space at

many schools across the State. Through the program,

we are opening up our outside learning areas, oval

and bike trail for the whole community to enjoy.

Signage will be placed at entrances and security

personnel and cleaners will operate during the

holiday period. Thank you again for your anticipated

support of this exciting initiative which aims to place

our school at the heart of our community these

holidays. ENJOY OUR SPECIAL SPACES!

P&C WORKING BEE

On that note the P&C will be having a working bee

to make sure our playground is in top notch

condition. We need your help! More info to come in

the next newsletter and on school stream.

WATER POLO

All students have just completed two weeks of

instensive Water Polo with coaches from Water

Polo NSW. One coach was ex-Olympian, Nikita

Williams. Nikita brought her Bronze medal and

uniform from the Beijing Olympics to inspire our

students. After our last session on Friday we had

some extra coaches from Water Polo NSW

assisting and they were impressed with the

swimming skills of our students, especially their

core strength. Students and staff all had a huge

amount of FUN and learnt some amazing skills!!

CHARLIE O’BRIEN SELECTED FOR WESTERN CRICKET TEAM

Our heartiest congratulations to Charlie O’Brien who was selected as a reserve for the Western Region

Boys Cricket team in Dubbo. This was a rigourous process of more than 80 boys trying out for the 15 places

on the team. Well done Charlie O and good luck!

RUGBY DIVISIONAL TRIALS

This week we wish Charlie Duffy, Ollie Horkings and Ryan Whiting all the best of luck as they trial for the

Rugby Eastern Division boys team at the Orange Emus Rugby Club on Wednesday convened by Drew

Bale. Thank you to our parents who will transport the boys to this event!

WORK HEALTH AND SAFETY WITH SARAH GODWIN

Sarah Godwin, our Work Health and Safety Advisor, has been supporting Mrs Bruce review and develop

our work, health and safety management programs for 2021. Well done Mrs Bruce for the mammoth task

undertaken and thank you to Sarah Godwin for her expertise, guidance and supportive role on site and

through zoom meetings.

OSSA GOLD ATHLETICS AT WARATAHS

Our Community of Schools principals continue to lead and support each other through the many sporting,

cultural and leadership events throughout the hectic school year. This Friday, Mullion Creek and Spring Hill

Public Schools are coordinating the OSSA Gold Athletics Carnival and barbeque at Waratahs Oval in

Orange. Thank you to all of the parents for helping with transport to the event and good luck to all the

competing students.

HARMONY DAY AT ATHLETICS

Harmony Day celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. In schools we celebrate inclusiveness, respect and a

sense of belonging for all Australians, from the traditional owners of the land to those who have come

from many countries around the world. Harmony Day occurs on 21 March each year and coincides with

the United Nations' International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The ongoing theme of

Harmony Day is ‘everyone belongs’. Harmony Day is a day of cultural respect for all. By participating in

Harmony Day activities, we can learn and understand how all Australians equally belong to this nation

and enrich it. Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Day. Traditionally, orange signifies social

communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and

encouragement of mutual respect. On Friday students may choose to wear something orange to show

their support and staff will prepare platters of orange fruit and vegetables for Crunch and Sip to share at

the Waratahs Oval.

PROGRESSIVE ACHIEVEMENT TESTS

Online Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT) will be completed this term and I thank Mrs McFarland for

leading in the coordination and delivery of tests in our school. The testing approach focuses on assessing

and monitoring student growth over time. These tests are designed to provide objective, norm-referenced

information to teachers about students’ skills and understanding. We are supporting students to develop

strategies to complete online tests with greater confidence and skills.

CRUNCH & SIP

We are becoming more sustainable and aware of where our food comes from. This week Mrs Brodie boiled

eggs from our profilic layers to add to the crunch and sip platters. The Crunch and Sip ladies peeled and

cut up eggs for the students to enjoy. In the coming weeks students will be able to try pears and apples

from our fruit trees as they come into season.
