Candle Flame COWL By Julia Allen
Adapted from Dean Crane’s
archived Candle Flame Shawl
pattern to be knit in the round.
This pattern can easily be
adapted further for hats or socks!
Materials:
 ~150 yards Malabrigo
Worsted or other soft
merino worsted yarn
 US Size 7 (4.5mm) 16”
Knitting Needles
 Stitch marker
Gauge:
20 stitches and 30 rows over 4”
(10 cm) in candle flame pattern.
Exact gauge is not crucial, as the
pattern is very stretchy, and can
block to size.
Definitions for double increases and decreases:
• (K,YO,K) = double increase; K1, Yarn Over, K1 into the same stitch
• (Sl 2-k1-p2sso) = vertical double decrease; insert needle into 2nd and 1st stitches at once
as if to k 2 tog and slip both stitches from this position; knit next stitch, then pass the 2
slipped stitches together over the knit stitch.
Candle flame pattern (worked in the round):
Round 1: P2, K4, (Sl 2-k1-p2sso), K4, P2, (K, YO, K) repeat to end
