Prof Dr H K Vishwanath memorial quiz -Annual post graduate quiz was

May
Canara Orthopaedic Society participated in AAOS highlights-Webinar program
organized by Johnson & Johnson held on 19th of May at Hotel Ocean Pearls.
Academic session was attend by 35 members and had interactive sessions with
national and international faculty at webinar.
On 26th of May executive committee meeting was conducted where plan for
whole year’s academic program was drafted.
June
Canara Orthopaedic society in co-ordination with Department of Orthopaedics
of Kasturba Medical Colleges conducted CM2E - Post graduate teaching
program was conducted at Manipal. Topic: Basics in Orthopaedics; including
lectures and demonstrations. Meeting was attended by 110 members
including post-graduates.
July
On Doctor’s day July 1st our society took active part in IMA Doctor’s day
program. We conducted Blood donation camp by doctors and did free
multispecialty medical camp with BMD testing. Many of our members donated
blood on that day. The program was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. M. Shantharam
Shetty, our District Heath Officer Dr. Purushottam and was conducted by IMA
president Dr. K Ramachandra Kamath.
Canara Orthopaedic society in co-ordination with IMA Mangaluru and AMC
Mangalore conducted a consultant meet on Tax awareness program for all the
doctors around Mangalore. Session was conducted by additional income tax
commissioner Mr. Siddappaji, held at IMA Hall.
August
Bone and Joint week
Canara Orthopaedic society conducted National Bone and Joint week program
with grand success. Whole week we had program starting from 1st of August to
7th.
1. On 03-08-2018 we conducted a Radio talk in Mangaluru Akashavani
regarding road safety and National Bone and Joint day awareness.
2. We held a press meet on 04th and gave a wide publicity in both print media
and television. Many articles in various newspapers regarding road safety
and bone and Joint day.
3. On the same day we conducted a first aid awareness program for police
constables, ambulance drivers and auto rickshaw drivers. The program was
conducted by Dr. Janardhana Aithala and Dr. Ishwara Keerthi.
4. On 5th we conducted a Road Safety and First aid program at Guru Narsimha
Temple at Saligrama. We also conducted demonstration and workshop on
first aid techniques during road traffic accidents. Local Police Sub-inspector
gave a informative talk regarding road safety to public.
5. On 6th Dr. Siddarth Shetty Conducted an awareness program for school
children at Ramakrishna School, Harekala. Dr. Dileep, conducted similar
program at Government high school, Permannor, Babbukatte, Mangalore.
6. On 7th Canara Orthopaedic Society along with KMC Hospital conducted a
Walkathon on Road Safety where in more than 200 participants participated.
The Program was inaugurated by Dr. Anand Venugopal, blessed by Prof. Dr.
M Shantharam Shetty and Dean of KMC Prof Dr. M V Prabhu. Same day we
had a television live program by Emergency medicine Specialist, Dr. Jeedhu
Radhakrishnan, Surgeon Dr. Shivanada Prdbhu and DSP of Mangalore
regarding Road Safety at Namma Kudla channel.
7. We had distributed more than a thousand pamphlet on road safety for
public. With the help of Commissioner of Police we had conducted
educational program for all the under graduate students at KMC Mangalore.
We conducted a street play by under graduate students on road safety theme
in various public places like malls, bus stand etc. There was a quiz and prize
for best performing team for street play.
8. More than fifty free surgeries were performed by various medical colleges
during this week by members of COS.

Canara Orthopaedic Society conducted a post graduate teaching program at
Father Mullers Medical College which was attended by more than 80 students.
September
On 5th of September we conducted teacher’s day program. Here we felicitated
two of our eminent teachers for their extraordinary contribution to the field of
Orthopaedics and teaching at large.
On 14th to 16th of September COS participated in conducting CME on
Transforaminal Endoscopic Spine Surgery at Mysore. The CME had lectures by
eminent faculties and live surgery demonstrations.
On 23rd of September, Canara Orthopaedic Society in co-ordination with
Orthopaedic department of KS Hegde Medical College, conducted one day
CME program on Essentials of Fracture fixation. CME had live demonstration
on various surgical techniques in trauma surgery.
On 27th of September, we in co-ordination with Canara Spine Forum and
Johnson & Johnson conducted a Lemo Workshop on Pedicle screw fixation in
spine. This was a one to one program to junior colleges in Orthopaedics and
Neuro surgery.
On 30th September, we in co-ordination with Department of Orthopaedics of
Kasturba Medical Colleges conducted CM2E - Post graduate teaching program
was conducted at KMC Attavar. Topic was Trauma in Orthopaedics; including
lectures and case presentations. Meeting was attended by 80 members
including post-graduates.
October
Canara Orthopaedic Society in co-ordination with HCG Bangalore will be
organizing Ortho-Oncology meet on 26th, at Hotel Ocean Pearl. Dr. Pramod
Chinder and Dr. Krishna Prasad will be resource persons.
COS Awards
• Dr. H K Vishwanath memorial Annual PG Quiz award to Dr. Monish and
Dr. Jose Augustine.
• Annual Free Paper presentation to Dr. Monish
• Annual best thesis award by Dr. P. Mahabala Rai
COS Fellowship
COS annual travelling fellowship in Hand Surgery to Ganga Hospital,
Coimbatore went to Dr. Mitun Pai.
COS Condolence meetings
This year we had sad demise of two of our eminent senior members who were
past presidents of Canara Orthopaedic Society. Dr. PS Kambli and Prof. Dr.
Varghese Chacko.
Social program:
COS conducts regular camps like earlier years. Conducted an Orthopaedic and
BMD camp at IMA House. Our members regularly conduct medical camps at
Satya Sai Hospital, Alike. Free camps are regularly conducted by Dr. Janardhana
Aithala at Kota- Saligrama.
Charity
Canara Orthopaedic Society members generously donated amount of Fifty
Thousands to Kodagu Flood Relief Fund to KOA. They also have generously
donated to Kerala and Kodagu flood relief individually and through other
various organizations.
Member Awards
Many of our members various awards and fellowships during the year. One of
them being most prestigious National Board Emeritus Teacher Award to Prof.
Dr. M. Shantharam Shetty.
Dr. Anil Bhat received the Best Ideas and Innovations prize at ISSHCON 2018 at
Coimbatore.
Dr. Ravi received Rotary Internationals highest individual award for his service
during Kodagu Flood relief.
Many of our members attend various international and national conferences,
seminars and workshops.
