Norman J. Disch AIFD, CAFA ( 1935 - August 8, 2009) CAFA lost one of its first Founders. Norman was a great supporter to CAFA from the very beginning and was always available to advise and mentor the members. He was a most illustrious and creative floral designers who had managed some of Toronto’s most prestigious flower shops. He was a sought after designer and judge for every floral event including AIFD National Symposiums. He spent many years as a respected teacher of floriculture at Seneca College until his retirement in 2004, after 25 years at the college. He was a great artist, advisor and friend to our industry.
Andy Hiemstra AIFD, CAFA ( 1939- Aug. 17, 2011) Proud CAFA member since 1995, Andy was a strong supporter of CAFA’s goals and the advancement of student floral designers. Born in Haule, Friesland in 1939, he was the owner of The Flower Fountain in Alymer, Ontario and an AIFD member since 1993. He was a very spiritual man who was very thankful for the gifts that God gave him in floral design. Tony Manders AIFD, CAFA ( 1961- Apr. 2, 2010 ) Tony was born in Holland and trained at the Sierteelt Vak School in Vught, earning a degree in Floriculture and Horticulture. In 1986 Tony came to Canada and worked as a florist in London where he bought his own store, Regency Florist in 1998. He obtained his AIFD in 1990 and was inducted into CAFA in 1995. Tony had been a floral design instructor at both Fanshawe College in London and at the University of Guelph for Flowers Canada. He was a participant of international floral shows and competitions..
