TheGuelph Chamber ChoiroffersavarietyofchoralconcertswhichcontributetoGuelph’scul-turalvitality.Thechoirprovidesafulfillingmusicalexperiencefortalentedamateurchoirmembers,andpromotesCanadianandnewmusic,andhistoricallyinformedpracticesinearlymusic.

Inadditiontotheannualfour-concertseries,theGCCalsoperformsinseniors’residences,andpres-entsaSing-alongMessiahfundraiserforalocalcharity.TheGCCregularlycollaborateswithothermusicandartsorganizationsinGuelph,andsupportstheGuelphKiwanisMusicFestivalwithscholarshipsforfourchoirs.TheGCChasperformedinnumerousinternationalandlocalfestivals,performedinBritain,EuropeandScandinavia,beenbroadcastonCBCRadio,andhaswonprizesintheCBCNationalCompetitionforAma-teurChoirs.Thechoirhasproducedeightrecordings,

including Carols of the Bells(December2017).Gerald Neufeldhasenjoyeda40-yearcareerasa

choralconductor,havingperformedover300concertsrangingfromtheearlyRenaissancetocommissionedworksfortheGuelphChamberChoir.For18years,hehasbeenaproponentofhistoricalperformances,conductingmajorchoralworksaccompaniedbyperiodorchestras.HisresearchinhistoricalperformancepracticeshasinformedavibrantpresentationofmajorworksbyMonteverdi,Bach,Handel,Mozart,Mendels-sohn,Brahmsandmanyothers.

Dr.NeufeldhasdirectedtheGCCsinceitsfound-ingin1980,aswellasconductingchoirsattheUniver-sityofGuelphandWesternUniversity,wherehetaughtconductingfor31years.TheGCC,theUofGChoir,ThamesScholarsandtheFacultyofMusicSingershaveallbeenwinnersintheCBCNationalChoralCom-petitionunderhisdirection.HehasconductedchoirsinfestivalsinEdinburgh,Wales,Austria,theCzechRepublic,plusTorontoandtheGuelphSpringFestival.HisconcerttoursincludeEurope,OntarioandQuebec.EightCDshavebeenrecordedunderhisdirection.

GeraldNeufeldwasconductoroftheOntarioYouthChoir,winneroftheLeslieBellcompetitionforchoralconductors,andhasservedonjuriesfortheJunoAwards,theLeslieBellCompetitionandtheGuelphSpringFestivalnationalvocalcompetition.Hehasalsobeenactiveasachoralclinician,festivaladju-dicator,andspeakerontopicsinthechoralfield.

TheUNIVERSITY OF GUELPH SYMPHONIC CHOIRhasalongandillustrioushistoryasarepresentativeofchoralmusicintheGuelphcommunity.Anauditionedensembleconsistingofstudents,staff,communitymembers,andfacultyfromalldisciplines,thechoirhasbeensupportedbytheCollegeofArtssince1969,whenitemergedfromapreviouschoraltraditionintheOntarioAgriculturalCollegethatbeganjustafterWorldWarTwo.Thechoir’srepertoirefocusesmostlyonthechoral-orchestralmasterworks,butalsoincludessomeworldmusic,spiritualsandsongsfromfolktraditions,aswellasground-breakingcompositions

suchasÉcole PolytechniquebyHildegardWesterkampand 10,000 Rivers of Oil,byLeonardEnns,commis-sionedbythechoirin2010.PastconductorsincludeDr.GeraldNeufeld,Dr.KathrynLaurin,Dr.NicholasGold-schmidt,Dr.RobertHall,andthelateRalphKiddwiththeassistanceofhiswife,Edith.Thechoirparticularlyenjoyscollaboratingwithotherensembles.InadditiontonumerousperformanceswiththeGuelphSymphonyOrchestra,jointperformanceswiththeGuelphCham-berChoirarealwayshighlights.

Alison MacNeillisagraduateoftheUniversityofGuelphmusicprogram,andoftheRoyalConservatoryofToronto.BorninGuelph,shereturnedtotheareatoliveandworkfollowinggraduateworkattheUniversityofWesternOntario,whereshestudiedpianoandtheorywithRonaldTuriniandRichardParks.

Alisonisactiveasanaccompanistandchambermusician,andhasbeen,atvarioustimesthroughtheyears,pianistfortheUniversityofGuelphChoir,theEloraFestivalSingers,theGuelphYouthSingers,andtheRainbowChorusofWaterloo-Wellington,aswellaswithmanyotherensemblesandsoloists.ShemaintainsalargeteachingstudioandistheDirectorofMusicMinistryatHarcourtMemorialUnitedChurch.ShehasbeentheaccompanistfortheChamberChoirformuchofitsexistence,performingandtouringwiththeensemble.

Aftermorethan20yearsofdedicatedservicetotheGuelphChamberChoir,Patricia Eton-NeufeldretiredfromherpositionasGCCAdministrator.Pat’stimeandefforthascontributedenormouslytotheChoir’ssuccessoverthatlengthyperiod.Pathasbeenhonouredbyhercommunity(i.e.,asaYWCA“WomanofDis-tinction”)forhereffortstomakeGuelphabetterplacetoliveonmanyfronts.TheGCCwishesherallthebestforher“retirement”.
