TheGuelph Chamber ChoiroffersavarietyofchoralconcertswhichcontributetoGuelph’scul-turalvitality.Thechoirprovidesafulfillingmusicalexperiencefortalentedamateurchoirmembers,andpromotesCanadianandnewmusic,andhistoricallyinformedpracticesinearlymusic.

Inadditiontotheannualfour-concertseries,theGCCalsoperformsinseniors’residences,andpres-entsaSing-alongMessiahfundraiserforalocalcharity.TheGCCregularlycollaborateswithothermusicandartsorganizationsinGuelph,andsupportstheGuelphKiwanisMusicFestivalwithscholarshipsforfourchoirs.TheGCChasperformedinnumerousinternationalandlocalfestivals,performedinBritain,EuropeandScandinavia,beenbroadcastonCBCRadio,andhaswonprizesintheCBCNationalCompetitionforAma-teurChoirs.Thechoirhasproducedeightrecordings,

including Carols of the Bells(December2017).Gerald Neufeldhasenjoyeda40-yearcareerasa

choralconductor,havingperformedover300concertsrangingfromtheearlyRenaissancetocommissionedworksfortheGuelphChamberChoir.For18years,hehasbeenaproponentofhistoricalperformances,conductingmajorchoralworksaccompaniedbyperiodorchestras.HisresearchinhistoricalperformancepracticeshasinformedavibrantpresentationofmajorworksbyMonteverdi,Bach,Handel,Mozart,Mendels-sohn,Brahmsandmanyothers.

Dr.NeufeldhasdirectedtheGCCsinceitsfound-ingin1980,aswellasconductingchoirsattheUniver-sityofGuelphandWesternUniversity,wherehetaughtconductingfor31years.TheGCC,theUofGChoir,ThamesScholarsandtheFacultyofMusicSingershaveallbeenwinnersintheCBCNationalChoralCom-petitionunderhisdirection.HehasconductedchoirsinfestivalsinEdinburgh,Wales,Austria,theCzechRepublic,plusTorontoandtheGuelphSpringFestival.HisconcerttoursincludeEurope,OntarioandQuebec.EightCDshavebeenrecordedunderhisdirection.

GeraldNeufeldwasconductoroftheOntarioYouthChoir,winneroftheLeslieBellcompetitionforchoralconductors,andhasservedonjuriesfortheJunoAwards,theLeslieBellCompetitionandtheGuelphSpringFestivalnationalvocalcompetition.Hehasalsobeenactiveasachoralclinician,festivaladju-dicator,andspeakerontopicsinthechoralfield.

sionedworks,fromclassicalstylestoBroadwayandvocaljazz,andfrommasterworksforchoirandorchestra,

tochoralgemsforunaccompaniedvoices.Inadditiontoitsregularfour-concertseries,theGCChasperformedinnumerousfestivals,includ-ingtheLlangollenInternationalEisteddfod(Wales),LuminatoFestival,TorontoInter-nationalChoralFestival,GuelphSpringFestival,andfestivalsinAustriaandtheCzechRepublic.ExcitingcollaborationshaveincludedworkingwithDancetheatreDavidEarle;professional,regionalandcommunitychoirs;andregionalorchestrasfromGuelph,Kitchener-WaterlooandLondon.Manyofourchoral/orchestralcon-certsinthepast18yearshavebeenaccompaniedbyperiodinstrumentspecialistswithrepertoirerangingfromMonteverdi’sVespers of 1610toBrahms’Requiem and manyworksbyBachandHandel.

TheGCChastouredinEngland,Wales,Ireland,Austria,theCzechRepub-lic,Holland,Germany,SwedenandDenmark.AfrequentprizewinnerintheCBCNationalCompetitionforAmateurChoirs,ithasbeenbroadcastonCBCRadioandonBBCWales.RecordingsincludeNoel; On Christmas Night; Songs of the New World; Good Cheare: Christmas Celebrations Old and New, Christmas in the Royal City, Remember, and Carols of the Bells(December2017),incollaborationwithbellchoirBellsAblaze.

Gerald NeufeldhasbeenConductorandArtisticDirectoroftheGuelphChamberChoirsinceitsfoundingin1980.PleserefertotheProgramsectiononpage5foramorecompletebiography.

Alison MacNeillisagraduateoftheUniversityofGuelphmusicprogram,andoftheRoyalConservatoryofToronto.BorninGuelph,shereturnedtotheareatoliveandworkfollowinggraduateworkattheUniversityofWesternOntario,whereshestudiedpianoandtheorywithRonaldTuriniandRichardParks.

Alisonisactiveasanaccompanistandchambermusician,andhasbeen,atvarioustimesthroughtheyears,pianistfortheUniversityofGuelphChoir,theEloraFestivalSingers,theGuelphYouthSingers,andtheRainbowChorusofWaterloo-Wellington,aswellaswithmanyotherensemblesandsoloists.ShemaintainsalargeteachingstudioandistheDirectorofMusicMinistryatHarcourtMemorialUnitedChurch.ShehasbeentheaccompanistfortheChamberChoirformuchofitsexistence,performingandtouringwiththeensemble.

Aftermorethan20yearsofdedicatedservicetotheGuelphChamberChoir,Patricia Eton-NeufeldretiredfromherpositionasGCCAdministrator.Pat’stimeandefforthascontributedenormouslytotheChoir’ssuccessoverthatlengthyperiod.Pathasbeenhonouredbyhercommunity(i.e.,asaYWCA“WomanofDis-tinction”)forhereffortstomakeGuelphabetterplacetoliveonmanyfronts.TheGCCwishesherallthebestforher“retirement”.
