What do I have to do before I am eligible to apply for an LMO?

In most cases, to obtain an LMO, you must prove that you run an actual business, you have advertised for a particular position, and you have been unable to find suitable candidates who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents.

You must also demonstrate that you are willing to pay a wage that is consistent with the going rate for that occupation in the geographical region where you operate your business.

How long does it take to get a Labour Market Opinion?

LMO processing times can vary. In some regions in Canada, the processing times may be faster than in other regions.

In some cases, it may take several months to obtain an LMO.

Is an LMO the same thing as a work permit?

In most cases, an LMO is a necessary pre-condition to obtaining a work permit. In certain limited circumstances, a person can obtain a work permit without having an LMO.

If a would-be employer has an LMO,that doesn’t automatically mean thatyou can work. You still have to applyfor a work permit.
