TRANSCRIPT
Greetings from L&T! We appreciate the fact that you are set to
embark on a life-defining journey and we are ready to walk with
you to make your transition smoother. We understand your
anxieties, and this edition of Campus to Corporate is designed to
address a few of them.
Though L&T’s legacy cannot be shared within a few editions of
such newsletters, we would like to acquaint you with some of
our areas of expertise and domains of operation apart from how
GETs, like you, have made it big at project sites. We will give
you a peek into L&T’s HQ campus at Chennai apart from sharing
some slices of life at L&T.
Mark Twain famously said, “…throw off the bowlines, sail away
from safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore,
Dream, Discover.” Lets together construct our dreams of a
brighter tomorrow.
All the best and hoping to have you on board soon!

With our JV partner in Qatar, Al Balagh Trading & Contracting, we are
constructing the Al Rayyan Stadium at Doha, which will host the FIFA 2022
World Cup matches until the quarterfinals.
Reflecting Qatari culture and heritage and inspired by the Bedouin tents,
the Al Rayyan stadium and its precinct design will resemble the sand
dunes that surround these traditional desert encampments. With a seating
capacity of 40,000, fans from across the world no longer need to settle just
for the screen. This landmark stadium is expected to be completed two
years ahead of the big event.

The Motera stadium near Ahmedabad, Gujarat
is touted to be the biggest cricket stadium in the
world with international standards comparable to
the Melbourne Cricket Stadium in Australia. With
the demolition work of the old stadium complete,
L&T has won the toss to construct this marvel in
the making! The stadium will have an enhanced
seating capacity of 1,10,000, and associated
top-class facilities like eateries, fan-zones and
washrooms. The stadium is slated for completion
by next year.

What color are our buildings? Green, of course!Their finesse not withstanding, our structures are eco-friendly in design
too and they come in all geometric shapes. The Engineering Design and
Research Centre (EDRC), titled the Tree of knowledge, is triangular in
shape and rises like the branches of a tree. EDRC is the recipient of the
2002 Federation Internationale due Beton (fib) award and the LEED
Silver rating by the uS Green Building Council in the Existing Building
category for design, construction and operation of Green Buildings.
The Technology Centre II (TCII) is another landmark structure with uS
Green Building Council LEED-nC v2.1 certification.
At L&T, we are never two tyred! While most people prefer to sleep in on weekends, the cycling
enthusiasts of L&T are early birds who prefer to catch the
worm on the road. This adventurous spirit is what enables
L&T-ites to chart out new territories and race against time.
The cycling squad is just one among many such recreational
groups at L&T.
Apart from doing their bit to reduce the carbon footprint,
members of this club encourage curious onlookers to grab
their bikes too and pedal to a greener future. The team’s
dedication has resulted in covering distances even up to
160km at a stretch! What’s more, all this biking works up a
ravenous appetite that is satiated by grabbing some piping
hot grub on route!
As with any physical activity, cycling has its own share of ups
and downs-but the crew looks forward to GETs like you who
are young and full of zest to brave rain, shine, wind or storm.
Making sure every drop countsWe also have an efficient water
management system that ensures
conservation. The features include 2
sewage treatment plants, 10 reverse
osmosis plants and automated
sprinkling systems for campus
horticulture. Rainwater harvesting
systems have also been implemented
to recharge the aquifer.
Fun @ workYou are just months away from entering a sprawling 27 acre green
campus of L&T’s headquarters. Don’t let the size overwhelm you,
as you will feel at home in no time. Want to know where to get the
best dosas? We know just the right place. How can one get from
one block to another? That’s simple; just hop on to the e-buggy
that does the rounds! Here are some campus trivia you might want
to know!

WomenCome March, L&T-ites are bitten by the excitement bug to usher in International
Women’s Day, with celebrations beginning a week in advance, culminating in a grand
finale. The festivities include a variety of fun events and games, ranging from ramp
walks to talk shows to quizzes and workshops. And men are certainly not excluded -
they indulge in exciting cooking duels donning the toque blanche, adding their unique
flavors to the revelry.
The theme for 2017 was #BeBoldforChange, instilling confidence in all the lovely
ladies out there to be unapologetic about their dreams and aspirations. The event was
a raging success as participation went through the roof. Despite their multifarious
responsibilities, women employees across ages spent many a diligent hour gearing up
for their shows-songs, dances, you name it and they’ve done them all.
The spectacular grand finale was replete with inspirational speeches, glitzy
performances and a sumptuous high tea. Well, the bar for next year’s celebrations has
certainly been set high!

As a Lead – Project Manager, you are required to complete
a project within 10 months. How will you ensure that it is
completed on time?
You have been assigned the responsibility to manage a
uSD 5-million construction contract. How will you ensure
that the contract is completed within the contract value
with minimal or no extra claims?
As a Lead – Construction deployed at site, a sudden
requirement comes in from the client to expedite a
particular portion of work that is critical. Your top
management too has given a green signal to meet the
client’s requirement. However, you have work going on in
other areas as well. What actions will you take to meet the
client’s requirement?
Project management is a balancing act of four factors
- time, cost, quality and safety. Your project is running
behind schedule and as a Resident Construction Lead, you
need to crash it. What approach will you adopt to crash the
schedule without compromising any of the four factors?
