2. There are many different types of camera including1. Film2. Digital3. Compact4. Single-lens reflex5. Disposable6. Instant-picture7. Large format 3. A digital camera captures images electronicallyrather than on standard film stores them onremovable memory cards. Images can then betransferred to a computer and printed out orsent over internet. 4. Some digital cameras can be connected directlyto printers in order to print out photos, andmany printers have slots for memory cards tobe inserted. This makes transferring images toa computer unnecessary. 5. The Polaroid instant-picture camera usesslim envelopes of plastic instead of a roll offilm. Inside is a sheet of film and a pod ofchemicals that bursts to process the picture injust 90 seconds. 6. The single-lens reflex (SLR) camera may useeither film or a digital sensor. It is popular withphotographers for its versatility, and becausethe viewfinder shows exactly the same viewthat the camera will record. The lens can beinterchanged with others to give a wide viewor to magnify the subject. 7. In early cameras, the lens was focused bymoving a bellows-a concertina-like clothtunnel-in and out. Many photographers stilluse large-format bellows cameras for highquality studio work. 8. The first photograph was taken only about 180 yrs ago.Hundreds of yrs ago, the Chinese found that lightentering a dark room through a pinhole wouldproject a fuzzy image of the world outside onto theopposite wall. Many yrs later, in 1500 in Europe, aroom like this was called a camera obscure, which isLatin for darkened room. In the 17th century someartists drew sketches with the aid of a cameraobscure which had a lens instead of a pinhole tomake the image sharper and brighter. The discoveryof chemicals that darkened when exposed to lightfinally made it possible to fix the image permanently-on paper, on glass plates, or on film. 9. Today, digital cameras use light-sensitive electronicsensors instead of film. Sophisticated electronictechnology in most cameras ensures that each picturegets the right amount of light and imperfectly sharp.
