them. He said to himself: If I give them one after
another of my golden feathers, the mother can sell
them, and with the money she and her daughters can
then live in comfort.
So the goose fl ew to the poor womans house .
When the woman saw the goose, she said: Why have

you my feathers, one by one, and you can sell them for
enough money so that you and your daughters can l ive in
comfort. And the goose gave her one of his feathers and

From time to time he came back, and each time
left another feather. The mother and her daughters sold
the beautiful feathers for enough money to keep them in
comfort. But one day the mother said to her daughters:
Let us not trust this goose. Some day he may fl y awayand never come back. Then we would be poor again. Let
us get all of his feathers the very next time he comes.
The daughters said: That will hurt the goose.
We will not do such a thing. But the mother was greedy.
The next time the golden goose came, she took hold of
him with both hands, and began to pull out his feathers.
But if a golden gooses feathers are plucked out against
his wishes, they no longer remain golden, but turn white
and are of no more value than chicken-feathers. The new
ones that grow are not golden but plain white.

Hi, Sinta
In your last email you asked me about school. Well, I getmy best marks for biology and maths. Theyre not my
favourite subjects, though. I like sport and art best
especially drawingbut my marks are only average. Im
not very good at foreign languages, and my marks are
usually bad. Grammar is such a problem.
I always look for a logic that isnt there. I suppose I have
more of a scientific mind. When I finish school, I think Ill
train to be an architect because you need maths and
drawing for that.
