• EPReSC-1 held on 30 Nov – 2 Dec 2015 • Background on the establishment of EPReSC

• SPESS overview and training on IT platforms

• Informational presentations on EPR Safety Standards and EPR Series publications

• Informational presentations by Scientific Secretaries on CSS, SSCs, and NSGC

• WebEx allowed full remote participation of members

• Operating Guidelines to support EPReSC work were drafted and discussed

• Review of GS-G-2.1 and the way forward

• Review of EPR related safety standards and nuclear security guidance under development

• Discussion paper created by the Secretariat comparing GS-G-2.1 against revised requirements in GSR Part 7

• Discussion using the Emergency Preparedness Network (EPNet) and email

• Questionnaire sent to all Member States for additional information gathering on GS-G-2.1

• Recommendations from WG will be submitted to EPReSC-2 for discussion and formulation of a strategic advice

• New draft Safety Guide Arrangements for the Termination of a Nuclear or Radiological Emergency

• Lessons learned from past emergencies identified the need for detailed guidance on the topic • Recommended as a priority task from 5th CSS term

• Currently at Step 7: First review of the draft publication by review Committees • EPReSC, RASSC, WASSC, TRANSSC, and NUSSC

• For approval for submission to Member States and relevant international organizations for comments

• DS474 Objective: • To provide guidance and recommendations to Member

States on developing arrangements at the preparedness stage to respond to a nuclear or radiological emergency in relation to the transition to either an existing exposure situation, or to a planned exposure situation, as appropriate, and the termination of the emergency

• DS474 will support: • GSR Part 7 Requirement 18 on Termination of a nuclear

or radiological emergency

• GSR Part 3 Requirement 46 on Transition from an emergency to an existing exposure situation

• New draft Safety Guide Arrangements for Public

Communications in Preparedness and Response

for a Nuclear or Radiological Emergency

• Topic identified as a priority task from 5th CSS term

• Currently at Step 5: Preparing the draft

• Technical Meeting scheduled for 5-9 September 2016

• Note Verbale has been distributed

• Draft is expected to be submitted to EPReSC, RASSC,

WASSC, TRANSSC, and NSGC for first review in 2017

DS475 (cont.)

• DS475 Objective: • To provide guidance to Member States in developing

arrangements for communicating with the public and media and coordinating with all sources of official information in preparedness for and response to a nuclear or radiological emergency, to facilitate the successful implementation of protective actions and the delivery of consistent messages

• DS475 will support: • Requirements 10 of GSR Part 7 on provision of

information to potentially or actually affected public

• Requirements 13 of GSR Part 7 on communication with the general public

DS469

• The Document Preparation Profile (DPP) for DS469, the revision of Safety Guide TS-G-1.2 Planning and Preparing for Emergency Response to Transport Accidents Involving Radioactive Material, was approved in 2012 but work was postponed

• A revised DPP for DS469, reflecting the latest Safety Standards, has been drafted by the Secretariat and will be submitted to EPReSC, TRANSSC, RASSC, and NSGC for approval in the summer 2016 meetings

• EPReSC is proposed as a lead Committee

• If approved by the SSCs, the DPP will be submitted to 40th CSS Meeting for approval
