If one was ever in the need to suffuse romance into life, a visit to AleGloria would be very much in order! The bright interiors are the tasteful amalgamation of cream and strawberry, appeal of candle light, polished wood, and gleaming white laced table linen embellished with flowers. Famous restaurateur Magda Gessler is at the helm of affairs; her insights, her creativity, her culinary design, have made this place one of a kind where she has taken Polish cuisine to a new dimension. NAZWA RESTAURACJIAKADEMIA SMAKU RESTAURANT

Located in Warsaw’s center, Akademia Smaku emanates its own culinary “education” informing guests on what excellent Polish cuisine is all about. Items such as the scallops with chorizo and broad beans; duck with soba pasta and seaweed salad; classical beef sirloin steak with pepper sauce, fries, and arugula; the halibut with parsnip, capers and croutons; and for dessert , cheese cake with chocolate sauce, are all excellent. NAZWA RESTAURACJIA. BLIKLE RESTAURANT

If there is a famous Polish cafe that defines history then one needs to visit. A.Blikle, in existence since 1869. Nowadays, more of a café cum brasserie, this institution which has been run by the Blikle family for five generations offers a synthesis between Polish and French cuisine. While its “café aspect” needs no introduction with its wide spectrum of offerings – desserts, famous donuts, cheesecake with raspberry, fine coffees and teas, its brasserie is demonstrating the same sense in its food offering. The mushroom soup with dumplings: the wheat and buckwheat pancakes served with salmon, caviar, or herring; duck in various recipe formulations and the St. Jacob mussels are good selections. Breakfast served all day. A.Blikle always lives up to a quality experience.

NAZWA RESTAURACJIBISTRO WARSZAWA RESTAURANT

Bistro Warszawa, located in the Old Town’s Main Square has clearly met its uniquely positive objectives very well indeed. These include being a place not falsely laden with “oldness” as are most in this area, instead being a modern venue with a bistro-like feel serving outstanding Polish fare which may also qualify as fine international cuisine! The menu includes excellent items such as the duck breast served with cucumber, mango and pomegranate; and the homemade pierogi stuffed with goose confit served with raspberry sauce. This place satisfies at all levels—refreshing interiors spread over a large space, an outstanding terrace on the Square, friendly service, and besides a terrific menu a lovely stockpile of wine, drinks, and innovative cocktails. Live music on occasion, makes this place a true event of going out with friends, family, or business colleagues!

BRASSERIE WARSZAWSKA RESTAURANT

The word brasserie implies a relaxed, upscale setting, professional service, white linen, a simple yet comprehensive menu. Brasserie Warszawska is of course more than that, and is reflective of the combined traditions of Warsaw and Paris, suffused perhaps with elements of the new European modernity. The dishes on the menu, such as the beef fillet with dauphine potatoes and spinach, emphasize simplicity; yet simultaneously reinforce the focus on quality of ingredients, methods of preparation, elegance of appearance, and heavenly flavors. The staff here is passionate about what they do; there is an implied guarantee of service and genuine hospitality. The restaurant has an outstanding bar with original-design stools, champagne and fine cocktails; there is a private room ideal for groups of 12 to 24 guests as well. Brasserie Warszawska is surely an uptick on Warsaw’s culinary map!

BUTCHERY & WINE RESTAURANT

Butchery & Wine has become the only restaurant in Poland to be awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand, which implies good value for money and which represents a favorite of the Michelin Guides. Speaking to owner Daniel Pawelek it is abundantly clear that his objective is for Butchery & Wine to be known as a place in Warsaw’s center where guests can enjoy outstanding food from a thankfully short menu—this aspect is extremely uncommon and intelligent. Appetizers and dishes such as the roast bone marrow, a classic; seared scallops with boudin noir; Bavette steak with shallots; and cote de boeuf, are all outstanding, perhaps to be followed by dessert such as the spiced pear and apple crumble with vanilla ice-cream. A comprehensive wine list, and friendly service make Butchery & Wine a top selection!

CAFÉ BRISTOL RESTAURANT

Café BristolKrakowskie Przedmieście 42/44Warsaw 00-325 phone: +48 22 551 18 [email protected] www.cafebristol.pl

The legendary Café Bristol Café, situated in the very heart of the city, is an integral part of Le Meridien Bristol Hotel. For years a favorite meeting place for both Warsaw’s visitors and its locals, it has welcomed patrons since 1901. With interiors styled in Viennese elegance, this is the place where one can enjoy outstanding coffee and desserts from its own in-house bakery throughout the year. The menu changes with the seasons; late autumn-early winter is a time for the stuff of Polish orchards, so cakes with apples, plums and pears are outstanding, as well as there is a greater an emphasis on salads, fruits, and light meats. No surprise therefore that this place has come to be a place where social and business meetings always go well! Note: Breakfast starts at 8 am, and in December, Christmas dishes will be available for takeout.

NAZWA RESTAURACJICASA PABLO RESTAURANT

Casa Pablo is redefining the idea of Spanish cuisine in Warsaw. In a non-clichéd setting - vintage, inspired, composed of objects and furniture from Spain - creative Spanish cuisine is served under the watchful eye of owner Pablo Martin Delgado. While not a traditional Spanish restaurant, dishes are prepared using Spanish techniques and products flown in from the country. Culinary creativity is reflected in items such as the homemade foie gras coated with toasted kikos, served with fig compote and raspberry pebbles or the duck breast burger served with sansho ko pepper caramelized onions, mahon cheese, arugula, raspberry ketchup and truffle mayonnaise. An outstanding bar reflects the culture of Spain, and the space exudes a warmth that appeals to a wide range of customers - couples seeking a romantic evening, business-folk, as well as those seeking a chic place to have dinner or drinks with friends.

NAZWA RESTAURACJICZERWONY WIEPRZ RESTAURANT

Czerwony Wieprz, or the Red Hog was in its historical past a restaurant for the communist party elite, where surrounded by chandeliers, portraits, and flags, once feasted the likes of Lenin, Breżnev, Fidel Castro, and Mao Tse Tung! The walls are replete with portraits of old communists, and the dishes have names such as Delicacies of the Polish People’s Republic, a selection of pate, luncheon meat, blood sausage, and kielbasa; varied pierogi “made from rationed flour”; and Baltic herring and game pate for the “Dignitaries and Bourgeoisie”. This is Polish cuisine in fact at its very best, with main dishes that are outstanding--examples include the oven roasted duck, served with cherry sauce, roasted apple, and beetroot. The restaurant’s fame continually attracts celebrity guests; important government leaders, various sports personalities, and you!

The menu emphasizes wholesome authenticity—the chicken soup with homemade noodles; roast duck with apples and potato pancakes; and the cheesecake made with cottage cheese—all evoke love at first bite! NAZWA RESTAURACJI@FERDY’S RESTAURANT

An inspired tribute to the life of Poland’s 20th century author Witold Gombrowicz, Ferdy’s derives its name from his 1937 novel, Ferdydurke. Chef Dariusz Zachoraski’s menu is international with Polish accents following the author’s Polish origin and his travels in South America, Argentina, and France. Selections such as the cold, creamy red beetroot soup with yoghurt; black tiger prawns and scallops ceviche; dried pork loin with rowan aromatized vodka; oven-roasted cod medallion served with cream of broad beans with mint, are all outstanding. An impressive wine list is well matched to the menu, and with a well stocked bar and a special lounge area, @Ferdy’s has become a place for both casual, as well as for a top-notch culinary experience. A valuable testimony is the restaurant’s patronage by business executives, diplomats, and the city’s intellectual crowd!

FOLK GOSPODA RESTAURANT

The word Gospoda means “inn” and Folk Gospoda is one of the oldest and more treasured restaurants in Warsaw with a history going back to the 18th century. Having won numerous awards for its traditional Polish cuisine, within its warmly illumined, rustic interiors the mind is most definitely transported to a rural Polish setting. The menu of course is replete with country wholesomeness with the use of fresh and local produce, confectionery, and even home-baked bread. Appetizers such as highlanders’ style oscypek, or smoked sheep’s cheese from the Polish mountains, served with cranberry; pierogi with various fillings; dishes made with wild game; the roasted pork with garlic and plums, are all true to their flavorful traditions. Guests from all walks of life and parts of the globe are often here, to a place which delivers tradition, wonderful food, and great fun!

HOZA RESTO & WINOBAR

Warsaw’s culinary trajectory has definitely lifted with Hoza By Mondovino, a restaurant opened by Margaret and Tom Budyta in partnership with Chef and Warsaw’s fine-meat purveyor, Martin Gimenez Castro. This trio has created a special place in the city’s heart in a 1900 building which miraculously survived the war; this is an ambience encouraged by exposed brick walls, industrial period lamps, and befitting artwork. This place indeed reflects the historical bearings of the city combining it with young, casual trends, and the sound of Latin jazz! Martin serves Argentine-style steaks and super-fresh seafood complemented by a collection of over 150 wine labels stocked in its cellar. Spread over four rooms, a bar with over 40 whiskeys, a club room, and a delightful private room for up to 10 guests; the place also has its own garden and parking in the inner courtyard. An outstanding venue where positive energy and friendly service make the culinary delights even more so!

LE CEDRE 61 RESTAURANT

The salient fact about Lebanese cuisine is that it is truly Mediterranean, with healthful ingredients and preparations that emphasize the use of fresh ingredients. Le Cedre is the only Lebanese purveyor in Poland of its class, with a 16-year history at Aleja Solidarności 61. Offering a diversity of flavors--cinnamon, cardamom, cumin, and mint--one can actually get a fine sense of Lebanon’s culinary traditions here. Le Cedre is not only a place for a delicious cuisine but also which offers a virtual excursion to a resort country--a large collection of Lebanese wines, original interior design, and Arabic music in the background, all contribute immensely to the feeling! What matters here ultimately is that the food is absolutely top in its composition, immensely healthful and refreshing, and served in a traditional setting which completes this Lebanese experience.

Ole Tapas Steak Restaurant brings a traditional Spanish touch to the heart of Warsaw. Its inspired kitchen allows one to discover typical flavors that transport one to the Iberian way of being! Both traditional and modern dishes are composed with fine gourmet products, beef from Spain, top quality Iberico ham, fish and seafood from Madrid -the second largest fish market in the world. While steaks may be found now in many-a-places in the city, the steaks and menu here are different—infused with Spanish flavors which appear in, for example, the aged Galician beef. Other items on the menu which will delight include the Marisco soup with grilled prawns; the Corrida, which is ox tail with horseradish; and the lamb shank. Delectable desserts such as the Crema Catalana, and a wide selection of wine completes the wonderful culinary experience at Ole Tapas!

If a sense of history, architecture, and the lure of a bygone era sounds appealing then Pod Gigantami is truly unbeatable. Its name “Under the Giants” is owed to the two stone giants that have faithfully held upon their shoulders the entrance to this building which is an architectural masterpiece. The menu bridges Polish and Mediterranean influences and what emerges from this kitchen sets it in a league very much amongst the top in the city. Dishes are served unerringly by formal-attired waiters, and advice on choosing from the extensive wine list is happily provided by the sommelier. With a top notch clientele that includes business leaders, senior members of government, and members of the diplomatic community, Pod Gigantami is quite clearly a special experience within Warsaw’s restaurant landscape!

NAZWA RESTAURACJISŁODKI...SŁONY RESTAURANT

Located on swanky Mokotowska Street, Słodki... Słony, pronounced “swodkey, swoneh” (and which translates to Sweet, Salty), is Poland’s top restaurateur and culinary genius Magda Gessler’s immense imagination coming together to produce gastronomic art of high order. Passion is clearly evident here with over 60 kinds of desserts, cakes, and pastries on the menu; what is different here is that recipes are 100% natural and date back over a century. Not surprisingly sweets were even sent to Pope John Paul II at the Vatican! Just as “Słodki” caters to the sweeter aspects of life, “Słony” caters to the salted, with items such as the caviar served on toast with egg and lemon, salmon in a marinade of green lemon and dill, alongside good old Polish bigos as well. A marriage of immense flavors, traditions, and an enrapturing ambience makes this place a sweet Warsaw experience indeed!

Located within the same premises as the Chopin Museum, Tamka 43 has become the city’s new culinary icon; the reason is owner Paweł Kwiatkowski and Chef Robert Trzópek whose work experience includes NOMA and El Bulli, restaurants rated #1 and #2 in the world! What Tamka 43 offers is completely different fare with its surprising combination of flavors and Sous-Vide cuisine. Described as molecular cuisine, the dishes here are an art form retaining most or all of their nutritional value. The menu is short and changes frequently to reflect only fresh and seasonal Polish and European products. U FUKIERA RESTAURANT

U Fukiera, is a townhouse restaurant that has indeed become an ornament in Warsaw’s Old Town Square. Magda Gessler’s signature is everywhere, from fresh flowers, antiques, and art, to the excellent culinary experience. Magda Gessler had the vision over fifteen years ago to present that what Poland had to offer in terms of style, and remarkable culinary traditions could rival and surpass any other. Much of what appears on the table is what she learned from her grandmother with dishes such as the baked carp with porcini mushrooms and cream; and white sausage with honey and onion jam. With a far reaching reputation both domestically and internationally, its guest list boasts many visiting dignitaries. Ultimately what stands out at U Fukiera is the distinct philosophy that all guests here are A-list celebrities—to be fed, treated, and looked after as such!

THAI THAI RESTAURANT

Restaurant Thai-Thai, located in the awe inspiring building of the National opera in the center of Warsaw has indeed become a valuable addition to the city’s culinary landscape. The finest ingredients that define Thai cuisine all come together under the genius of Chef Sanad Changpuen; his experience includes heading the Oriental at the Warsaw Sheraton. Appetizers and dishes such as the shrimp or chicken satay; spicy beef or squid salad; tom yam kung or the spicy shrimp soup with lemongrass and coconut milk; the beef, chicken, duck, fish, and seafood in various curries and forms, are all bouquets intensely packed with rich flavors. The belief here is that the best companion to Thai food is wine; diploma ASI sommelier Paweł Demianiuk is at hand to advise on the selection of these to make dining here a truly comprehensive experience. Newly opened White Sushi located on Warsaw’s prestigious Krakowskie Przedmieście a few steps from the Presidential Palace, is redefining the way a sushi restaurant is perceived. Gone is the forced superimposition of faux-Japanese interiors that actually distract from the content of one’s plate. Here, as the name suggests, there is the pristine backdrop of a white interior, where the mind gets a clean slate to simply savor and judge the immense quality of the offerings here. The delicious salmon tartar, salad with shrimp and avocado, and of course a refined array of fine sashimi and sushi are a treat for two reasons—the skill of he sushi masters behind the counter and the quality of ingredients as far as freshness and appropriate cuts are concerned. The mission of the Fryderyk Chopin Museum is to propagate the great composer’s life and work to a wide audience by capturing the social consciousness of Chopin’s identity as a unique European institution. The Museum delivers a high quality artistic experience, with the choice on what to take away depending on the individual viewer. Innovative forms of exploration are based on interaction with the audience and the immediate responses by the individual. The Museum must not simply be regarded as only a central facility made for the Year of Chopin celebrations held during 2010; it is first and foremost a national institution commemorating Fryderyk Chopin.
