DEL ARTE FESTIVAL

Festival dell’Arte 2013 is the second edition of the artistic event that creates an interactive platform for meeting of art lovers, various artists and well known European personalities. The organizer is the Foundation of Palaces and Gardens and Wojanów Palace. Through everyday concerts, exhibitions, presentations, speeches and poetry meetings, Festival dell’Arte is a true fusion of the arts. From August 17 to 25, Pałac Wojanów will host world famous musicians of from the Vienna Philharmonic, Berlin, as well as sculptors, painters, and poets. Throughout the week there will be opportunities to interact with art, artists, and art enthusiasts. With the special Dell’Arte package, one will also be able to discover the history and beauty of historical monuments of the Valley of Palaces and Gardens and its surroundings.

POLAND’S GOOD TASTE FESTIVAL

Ogólnopolski Festiwal Dobrego Smaku, or Poland’s Good Taste Festival, is an annual four-day food and drink celebration taking place at Poznan’s Old Market Square between August 15 -18. Several vendors from across Poland offer local cheese, breads, ham, sausages, honey, beer, and other delicacies. Fine food, wines and spirits form many other counties including Spain, Italy, Germany, Lithuania, and Hungary can also be sampled and purchased here. Live cooking shows, concerts, tastings and workshops for children and adults accompany the event. A grilled “kielbasa” in one hand and a glass of local beer is a sight encouraged here; of course instead of beer it could be Hungarian wine or fresh squeezed apple juice! The Market Square becomes an important music destination as well with plenty of live jazz, classical and folk music which celebrates life, and good food!

PERFECT WEDDING

You might want to attend a “Perfect wedding” in Poznań! The “invitation” is for September 16th in Earth Hall on the grounds of the Poznań International Fair where the Perfect Wedding, a performance by Teatr Kwadrat is being held. Directed by Marcin Sławiński, it stars Ewa Kasprzyk, Marta Żmuda Trzebiatowska, Katarzyna Glinka, Ilona Chojnowska, Paweł Małaszyński, Andrzej Nejman, and Maciej Kujawski. The story line proceeds thus: on the morning of his wedding, the groom wakes up in his hotel suite with an unknown beautiful woman in his bed. At the same time his fiancée knocks on the door. What will happen next? “Perfect wedding” combines romanticism with a sense of the absurd, and mathematical comedic precision. The baroque wedding, deliberately kitsch perfectly suits the sequence of improbable events that are possible only in the best farces which follow in the much appreciated English genre.

Teatr Wielki

Poznan’s Teatr Wielki, or The Great Theater, is a neoclassical building designed by famous German architect Max Littmann (1862-1931). Flanked by six massive columns, its facade is headed by a triangular jerkin-head topped with a sculpture of Pegasus. The theater offers seating for 900. The opera house was first opened in 1910 for a premiere performance of Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Today, this is one of Poland’s most famous and revered opera venues with a rich tradition and history.

Poznan’s Old Market Square has as its dominant building the Renaissance Town Hall, with tenement houses lining the square constructed in Baroque and Renaissance styles. Next to the Town Hall are the so called Vendor Houses featuring characteristic arcades. Other features include the Proserpine Fountain, the fountains of Apollo, Neptune and Mars, a Baroque figure of St. John of Pomuc, and many other elements of cultural interest.
