Chairman Hubert asked that we observe a moment of silence to honor the lives of two civil rights giants who recently passed - Nelson Mandela, South Africa's first black chief executive, and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election and William Mallory, the longest- serving majority leader in the history of the Ohio House of Representatives and 2012 inductee in the Ohio Civil Rights Hall of Fame. REPORT FROM THE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE

Lori Anthony, Chief, Civil Rights Section – Ohio Attorney General’s Office introduced members of the Attorney General’s Office, Civil Rights Section, who were here from Cleveland and Toledo: Wayne Williams, Susan Sharkey and Marilyn Tobocman. Ms. Anthony presented their yearend report. They have twelve attorneys, opened three-hundred cases, have a pending inventory of 400 cases, collected $380,000 on behalf of our clients, have four cases in Federal Court, are arguing four appellate cases and have one case seeking approval from the Ohio Supreme Court. If the Commissioners would like additional information on these or other cases she is happy to provide it.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S REPORT Director Payton presented the following information to Commissioners:

Director Payton stated he was pleased we had the opportunity to honor State Representative William Mallory at our 2012 Annual Civil Rights Hall of Fame Ceremony. Representative Mallory passed away December 10, 2012 at the age of 82. Director Payton introduced Tony Osuobeni, legal intern for Judge Denise Johnson. Mr. Osuobeni is leaving the agency on December 13th to prepare for the New York State Bar Examination. Director Payton thanked him for his service.

Director Payton remembered the life of Nelson Mandela who passed away on December 5, 2013.

Tony Osuobeni thanked the Commission for his opportunity to work with us and also thanked Chief Lori Anthony and the Attorney General’s Office, Civil Rights Section for their support.

Commissioner Roberts remembered State Representative William Mallory as “the last of the old guard in the Ohio Legislature and a Civil Rights warrior.”
