Purpose of the Conference (E)migrations have taken a central stage in the debate on public policies in Europe today. Although some evidence of a positive economic, social, and cultural impact of migrations on receiving countries have been found, the impact on countries of origin remains unclear.
In the South-Eastern European (SEE) countries emigrations have significantly lowered population growth and, in some cases, even worsened already negative demographic trends. The most obvious negative impact of the emigrations is the reduction in human capital, which negatively influences the labor market, government budget, economic growth, and competitiveness of the country of origin in general. The inflow of remittances is perhaps the most tangible link between migrations and the competitiveness of the country of origin in the way that remittance inflows may increase the minimum wage and reduce labor supply. This, combined with significant outflows of skilled workers, may lead to greater pressures on domestic wages, worsening the competitiveness of the country of origin. In addition, emigrations may have important implications for fiscal revenue and expenditure as well as for the production growth in general.
In that respect, by sharing ideas and experiences through critical thinking, the 6th International Scientific Conference ICEI 2019 aims to provide answers on how to improve competitiveness by overcoming negative trends of (e)migrations in terms of:
- enhancing institutions and policies to create an environment that motivates people to stay in the country and attract qualified workers from other countries;
- promoting usage of remittances for investment rather than spending; - mitigation of negative fiscal impacts;

- creating favorable and more efficient business environment in the national and regional context;
- maintaining economic stability and boosting job creation; - increasing the quality of the existing workforce by modernizing education; - building the capacity for innovation through strengthening university-
industry cooperation in R&D and innovation, etc.
Based on the experience from previous conferences, we expect the presence of a large number of eminent scientists, researchers, and experts in the fields of economics and business as well as scientists from other related areas, whose research contribute to finding solutions for successful coping with (e)migration challenges.
The International Scientific Conference is expected to receive significant media coverage.
