  1. 1. Call A Buffalo Foundation Repair Expert For The Home Foundation Repair The warranty game, is the most over used sales tool in the industry. The most advertised, yet the most misunderstood, part of having structural repair work done on your property is the warranty. You will see "Lifetime Warranty" or "Lifetime Transferable Warranty" or even "Longest Warranty in the Business". What does this mean? What is the warranty worth? Are there any costs associated with the warranty? Most importantly, what warranty do I need? Making sure that your gutters are working properly is one of the best ways to protect your home. Why? This is because gutters function to keep rain, leaves and snow away from the exterior and interior of your home. If your house did not have gutters, then rain and melted snow would have no other place to go than to run down the exterior of your home and sit at the foundation. Eventually, this standing water will wreck havoc on your foundation and require a costly ##LINK##. The exterior of your home will deteriorate and the interior walls will start to rot and crumble. Improper back filling by your contractor (placing the soil back around the hole that was dug to make the basement/foundation) can also contribute to foundation cracks and problems. Another likely cause to foundation settlement is the sewer drain. The drain pipes under the older homes were either clay tile with cemented hub connectors, or ductile cast iron with lead poured joints. One question that I hear a lot is this: Why did this building settle recently?...After all the building has withstood some of the most severe storms of the century. The building has stood strong through generations of family......Why did this building start settling and cracking now? Many people think at first it is a type of paint, but the results are achieved by manipulating these effects, to give the impression of colors. If, it is protected by a sealer or wax, it can be very enduring, and Acid stained concrete has been used with great effect both inside and out.
  2. 2. Some of you are thinking that perhaps the old building has out lived its intended life span, and that maybe it should be taken down. I say to you: Please don't think that way. Think of your house or building as a living thing, after all, It is important to preserve history and keep it alive! The effect of water on concrete can be described in two ways. Positive, is from rain fall, and Negative is from ground water. Either way, the moisture and vapor will transmit itself through the concrete. Concrete behaves like a sponge with water. The water will always travel through it, seeking the dryer areas, until it reaches the air. Finally the only way of stopping it, is to form a membrane across the surface. When you first see those hairline cracks in your basement walls, you probably aren't too worried. Knowing that professionals often inject these non-threatening cracks with polyurethane, you figure you can handle it on Saturday afternoon and be done in time to barbeque for the evening. Maybe you even had a friend who hired out someone to handle their crack injection and they told you how the technicians came in and were out in no time flat. Sounds simple, right? Well, not exactly. It would be terrible on Christmas Eve for the chimney to fall over while Santa is doing his work. Consider piers to save Christmas and, more importantly, your chimney, fireplace, your wall, and the value and integrity of your home.
