RICK BALTHAZAR – CNMA PRESIDENT

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

The Holidays have come and gone. The New Year is upon us and it’s time to get busy with the business at hand. The Executive Board has just completed our meeting of new District Presidents and Committee Chairman held at the Stockdale Moose Lodge #2178, in Bakersfield, CA. This is the second year we have done this and it has proven to be very successful for the California/Nevada Moose Association (CNMA). Past President Joe Rigazio a year ago thought that a meeting like this would be very helpful for all

Presidents and Committee Chairman to learn what is expected of them going into the New Year. This year’s meeting had a fantastic turn out and was embraced by all. We also had three past Deputy Grand Regents, current Deputy Grand Regent (Charlie Papp) and Grand Council Member Cheryl Volden in attendance. Our special guest for the second year in a row was Past Supreme Governor Mr. Milt McGinnis. What an honor for all us to have Milt and his lovely wife in attendance. We covered a lot of ground and are ready for the March Mid-Year Conference in Reno, NV. Remember to make your reservation as soon as possible. It was decided at the Conference that we would hold the meeting in Bakersfield for at least the next two years. I want to thank the Stockdale Moose Lodge #2178 for being a great host and supplying fantastic lunches and dinners for all who attended. Please express to all of your Moose Lodges on the importance of attending State Conferences and International Conventions. At this time, I would like to give you an update on the Paradise Moose Lodge #2227. I personally was able to attend the first Officers meeting for the Paradise Moose Lodge #2227 held at the Gridley Moose Lodge #1594. In attendance were all the officers of Paradise Moose Lodge #2227, Deputy Supreme Governor Bill Thompson, a City Council Member, myself and Luis Garay of the La Habra Moose Lodge #1858. Administrator Cy Morris brought the meeting to order and started the path to reconstruction of their Moose Lodge. I was very impressed on how they were all ready to rebuild after such a tragedy. They lined out a plan and went to work. My little Moose Lodge was able to give Cy a donation of $1,000.00 and a new computer. Cheryl Volden was doing a training class in Monterey at the time, and loaded the software and delivered the computer to the Gridley Moose Lodge #1594. At their first meeting they were doing business. At the time you read this newsletter there will be over $20,000.00 donated in cash and gift cards. Donations have come from as far as Colorado, Arizona, Washington State, Tennessee and Minnesota. I would like to thank everyone for the out pour of love.

From the Executive Board and all of Moose members I say thank you. I am proud to be a member of this great fraternity! Please continue to send donations to: Paradise Moose Lodge, P.O. Box 1176 Paradise, CA 95967 - Cy Morris 530-514-0907. Rick Balthazar, CNMA President Loss Prevention Committee 562-572-8564 [email protected]

CHARLY PAPP – DEPUTY GRAND REGENT 2018-2019

DEPUTY GRAND REGENTS MESSAGE

From my family to yours, we wish you a safe, healthy and Happy New Year. The holidays are behind us and we are in motion for a great 2019. Before I go on about our upcoming Mid-Year Conference, I want to thank Stockdale Chapter #1203, for stepping up

to be our Hostess Chapter. Thank you, Ladies, I am so excited to be working with you. Your energy and enthusiasm is contagious! By the time you read this, I hope you have filled out your registration forms and sent them in to Stockdale Chapter #1203 for our 85th Mid-Year Conference, March 21-24, 2019. We have a great Conference set up for both the LOOM and WOTM. I am happy to announce our official visitor is none-other than “The” Grand Chancellor, Barb McPherson. If you are looking for knowledge about our great fraternity and the ins and outs of the Women of the Moose, you will not want to miss this Conference. Rumor has it that many Co-workers are not coming to Reno, NV in lieu of going to Las Vegas, NV. Truly, I hope that is not the case. You can learn so much more at the smaller CA/NV Conference venue. Additionally, Cindy R. will be offering WOTM Training on Thursday, March 21st. This class will give your new officers the training they need to take over on May 1st. We will also be offering a Town Hall type workshop on Friday, March 22nd from 4-5 PM by Frankie Wysocki and the Higher Degree Officers. They are a wealth of wisdom with great ideas on how to keep your members coming back year after year. This workshop is set up to take the time our meeting sessions don’t have to talk about membership in depth. This will be a great time to ask your questions about member retention and get a personal answer (open to both WOTM and LOOM members). I would also like to emphasize that the California/Nevada Moose Association (CNMA) is truly working hard to move the March meeting out of Reno, NV. I know you have heard it before and in my travels, I have heard many of you say you will not come to Reno, NV because they keep promising to move the Conference further south, and here we are still in Reno. NV. Now that I have learned more about the process, I can assure you, they have and are working very hard to find a venue closer to the middle of California/Nevada. Why the delay? Consider the cost of rooms, free parking, good food at reasonable prices, and entertainment for your spouses and/or children that do not attend meetings and/or entertainment for you between and after meetings. You cannot have one without the other and finding a venue that encompasses all these things at a price our members can afford is much more difficult than you think. If you are planning to boycott the Conference because it is in Reno, NV again, please do not. Your participation in these conferences is what makes them fun, educational, and vital to the growth of our Fraternity. They are much closer to finding a location that encompasses everything our members are asking for. so please support this effort by supporting those who are working to attain it. For your hospitality, I would like to thank the Moose Lodges/Chapters I have had the fortune to visit so far! I am grateful to all the women in Yuba City and Placerville that took time out of their day to come out and meet me, and for all your questions about our fraternity. I enjoyed my visit to the Sacramento area, but due to time constraints, I missed a few Moose Lodges/Chapters. So, I will

be back! To the many other Moose Lodges/Chapters that I have popped into (without much notice) and had the opportunity to meet Co-workers just enjoying their Moose Lodge home, I value every one of your hugs, thank you! I appreciate that you believe hugs are just as important as I do, and I hope you continue to share hugs with your Moose family and those around you for years to come. Our CNMA President, Rick Balthazar and I have plans to visit Moose Lodges/Chapters in Northern California and Nevada in the coming months. We recently visited the San Fernando Valley and Frazier Park Moose Lodge #2364 on our way to Stockdale #2178, what a fun day that was. We even absorbed a little Civil War history at Fort Tejon! We look forward to meeting you soon…keep your hugs ready. ☺ In closing, have fun in your Moose Lodge/Chapter, but always remember we are here to support our kids at Mooseheart, our seniors and Moosehaven, and those in our Communities that need us. Even a card or letter shows you care. See you in Reno, NV with Hugs! Charly Papp Deputy Grand Regent [email protected]

BURHL “BUD” HARWOOD III – CNMA VICE PRESIDENT

VICE PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

Greetings! I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year. Let's all start off the year on the right foot. This last weekend we had a seminar in Bakersfield for all the District Presidents and Chairmen. A BIG thank you to all who attended. We had some great speakers. Thank you for taking your time to attend and enlighten us with your knowledge. We asked the District Presidents to PLEASE get on their e-mails so that we

can get information to them and to you. Check with your Governor on the Association raffle tickets. Some areas are doing well and others aren't. Hotel and Conference registration information is out. The earlier, the better, to get yours in! Pre-register! Help us with the numbers and help keep the cost down. Pre-registration is only $20.00, but if you wait and register at the conference it will be $30.00. Thank you for your cooperation. See you in March in Reno, NV. JOHNNY ROBINSON – CNMA PRELATE

PRELATES MESSAGE

Hello to all: I am glad to report that Paradise Moose Lodge #2227 members are doing a great job, getting their lives and their Moose Lodge back together. Talk about Fraternalism, they got it!

We are still getting low numbers of our Committee Chairman not sending in their reports to me and the Gold Miner Newsletter. This hurts our members not knowing what is going on in the California/Nevada Moose Association (CNMA). We just finished up with the District President and Committee Chairman’s meetings at the Stockdale Moose Lodge #2178 in Bakersfield, CA. This was the second year doing this and the attendance was almost doubled from last year. A Big Thank You for the use and hospitality Stockdale Moose Lodge #2178 gave everyone. Action Item: It’s time to get all reports in to Perry James, CNMA Treasurer. This includes all District Presidents. Reports on the good of the District and all Committee Chairman Reports on what their committees have been doing. The deadline is February 27, 2019. After that, it will not go into the Convention Information Book. Thank You for all you do. Johnny Robinson, CNMA Prelate 805-928-0558 [email protected]

PERRY JAMES – CNMA TREASURER

TREASURERS MESSAGE Happy New year to everyone! Now that we are into 2019, let’s get busy and support Mooseheart, Moosehaven, our communities and our families in ways that we haven’t tried before. Got an idea for a fundraiser? Let’s hear them. Let’s not forget that it’s all about the kids and seniors that we support. Everything we can do to make it easier for us to take care of them, makes it easier on all of us. Let’s do this and let the rest of the Moose Fraternity know we are the California/Nevada Moose Association (CNMA).

We had pretty good meetings in Bakersfield, CA. We did some brainstorming on ideas that the CNMA can use down the road. If you want your information included in the March information handout, get the information to me by February 27th. If I don’t receive it by then, it won’t be in the handout. Another biggie to start thinking about is Women going to our CNMA. This subject came up and several Associations are already voting on it. It’s something to start thinking about because you will be hearing more about this. Perry James, CNMA Treasurer 831-338-1076 [email protected]

JOE RIGAZIO – CNMA JR PAST PRESIDENT

JR PAST PRESIDENTS MESSAGE Here’s hoping that everyone made it safe and sound through the holiday time and are rejuvenated and are ready to go. I know that you have heard this before but we must keep talking about MEMBERSHIP RETENTION! Since we are losing more out the back door than is coming in the front door, it is a subject we can’t ignore. This is the

exact reason they started the Council of Higher Degrees! The Council is there to help! All Moose Lodges say that they are sending cards and making phone calls, but in most cases, it is not working. If the Moose Lodge Officers and Administrators would share their arrears list, then the Council can help. They get no credit! They are not stealing your members, they are saving members for your Moose Lodge! And That’s A FACT!! If you do make the calls then listen to what they are telling you. Dues are too high, can’t afford the dues, they don’t ask me for help any more, too smoky, not friendly, the list goes on and on. How many times do you need to hear these before you actually do something about it? Please think about it and I mean seriously think about it. Enough lecturing for today! Hope to see as many of you as possible at out March Mid-Year Conference and renew old friendships and start new ones. Don’t forget about the Bowling Tournament, the Karaoke Contest, and we have the Lip Singers from down south for the Saturday Night Banquet. Fraternally, Joe Rigazio, CNMA Jr Past President (775) 575-5359 [email protected]

FRED REICHELT – CNMA SECRETARY

SECRETARYS MESSAGE Greetings All: First, welcome back from the Holidays and hope all went well. The time with family, friends and going down to your Moose Lodge is what it is all about. With that said, are you ready for Valentine’s Day, where a lot of Moose Lodges do a Sweetheart function? Yes indeed, a time to do joint functions with the WOTM.

Back tracking for a moment and thinking about Mooseheart and Moosehaven, don’t forget our California/Nevada residents at Moosehaven and our four students at Mooseheart. Is your Moose Lodge sponsoring a student or have a Moosehaven resident from your Moose Lodge? Did you remember them during the Holidays? It’s not too late to do so! Our California/Nevada Moose Association (CNMA) makes sure each one of them received a $50.00 Visa Card for the holidays. In addition, our students get a Visa card for their Birthdays. As a note, many of you know I am also on the Mooseheart Board of Directors. The Directors meet annually and before the close of our meeting, we visit Mooseheart and get a chance to see the Holiday Lights, have dinner in one of the Mooseheart homes for the students, and finally an opportunity to shadow a high school student for a few hours. This is always a great time and, on this visit, I got to shadow Autumn Campbell sponsored by Apple Valley Moose Lodge #1810. She plays in the band and her major is Cosmetology, and upon graduation will have enough hours to submit for her license to work in Illinois.

Moving on, by the time you read this article, the Membership Seminar in Bakersfield, CA held in January will be over. A lot of time and effort went into this and it is for you. We want to thank the Stockdale Moose Lodge #2178, all the Moose Lodge Officers and Administrator Glen Holland for the use of the Moose Lodge and hospitality shown to us. We had 11 District Presidents, nine committee Chairman, all three Deputy Supreme Governors, Moose Legion Chuck, Past Supreme Governor and Pilgrim Elder Milt McGinnis, current Deputy Grand Regent Charly, Past Deputy Grand Regent Bridgett, Grand Council representative Cheryl, Council of Higher Degrees Frankie and cast of many more. We hope everyone liked the seminar and comments for improvement are welcome. It would be remiss of me not to say Thank You, to all the speakers and ones I missed, and the assistance of the Glen Holland of the Bakersfield Moose Lodge, and many others. Coming events: Please Note; March 2019 Mid-Year Conference: I cannot stress enough the importance of Pre-registration for the Conference and staying at the Atlantis Casino Resort. Failure to do both has resulted in not making our room commitments in September 2018. As a result, our cost for last Convention went up. You will also notice some changes this year in the meals and were impacted by higher meal costs. However, the Atlantis Casino Resort did hold our room rates for now.

The Journalism competition is alive and well with the following dates for your records: Website entries submitted by February 23, 2019 and the Newsletter entries submitted by March 2, 2019. Go to the Moose International website for more information. Scholarship applications for 2019 are being accepted and due by June 30, 2019 and please visit the Moose International website for more information. The requirements have changed and more stringent. The CNMA will continue to give one award out of $1,000, determined pulling a token, representing an applicant, as we have in the past. The March Mid-Year Conference is going to be great as there is a lot planned such as the 5 Star “Thank You” party! Unfortunately, there will only be 58 qualified Moose Lodges represented this year. Karaoke is set for Friday night, after the 5 Star which continues to be a lot of FUN. The Banquet theme this year is the “Fifties”, (correction from the last notice) and this should be a lot of fun as well. The entertainment for the evening will be the famous Bell Flower group and has proven to also be a lot of fun. The Atlantis Casino Resort has always done a great job for us and will do the same for 2019. We will still be at the Atlantis Casino Resort for our Annual Conference in September, 2019 and 2020. Mid-Year location TBD. In closing, I would like to thank everyone again for all their continued support for our CNMA. No one does it alone; Remember we are a TEAM -- Together Everyone Achieves More! God Bless our Military, our First Responders and our Children at Mooseheart.

JIM WAGGONER – CNMA LIAISON & TERRITORY MANAGER

LIAISONS MESSAGE As we close out the third quarter of the Membership year, our numbers are still going down. I ask each of you to get the arrears lists from the Administrator or Recorder and get at least one of the expired or dropped members to renew their dues. We need each and every one of these members to help us complete the many projects we do in our communities. Remember:

“A BURDEN HEAVY TO ONE IS BORNE LIGHTLY MY MANY”

Please, Administrators and Recorders have the arrears lists names and phone numbers available to our active members so they can help the Moose Lodge and Chapter be “plus one.” We can use the Higher Degree’s holders to help us in this. That is the main reason the Council of Higher Degrees was started and they are here to help, they are not signing up your members for credit, they are just getting them to renew their dues. Fred and I are looking hard to find a place for the Mid-Year Conferences outside of Reno, NV. Thank You for all you do. Jim Waggoner, Territory Manager / Liaison 619-993-3066 [email protected]

CHERYL D. VOLDEN – CA/NV TRAINING COORDINATOR

TRAINING UPDATE Training is a key ingredient in a successful Lodge, Chapter or Moose Legion. It also ensures success in the Moose Family Fraternity, which guarantees the future of Mooseheart and Moosehaven. The California/Nevada Moose Association (CNMA) continues to ensure that required training is provided by your training staff. We will be scheduling training to meet your needs and officer requirements in the coming months.

As your CNMA Training Coordinator, I want to ensure you have the training necessary for meeting your goals toward success. I can only do that if you allow me the opportunity to assist in getting what you need. How does that happen? By you reaching out to me through email or by phone. Let’s talk about the Moose Rewards Program. Don’t know what that is? You as a member can earn points for various activities achieved within the Moose Family Fraternity. How can I learn more about this? Go to the Moose International (MI) website at www.mooseintl.org, select Members Area, Programs / Events, Moose Rewards Program. A list of ways to earn points can be found here along with information on how to access your member record to view the number of points you have earned, what they can be redeemed for, and where you can get additional information. Ask your lodge or chapter for a Moose Rewards Program brochure. Why do I bring up the Moose Rewards Program? Because you can earn points by attending instructor led training or by taking credit eligible online training. Attending Instructor Led Training results in more points earned (1,000) than online training (600). So, if you are looking to rack up some more points – attend an Instructor Led training session or go online and take a credit eligible online training course that rewards you with Moose Rewards. A complete listing of courses available can be found by going to the CNMA website at www.ca-nvmoose.org, select Fraternal Education, Fraternal Ed Info and click on the Moose Training Information link at the top of the page. This will take you to the Moose International Moose Training home page. Scroll down the page to the specific area of interest (i.e., Loyal Order of Moose (LOOM) Training; Moose Legion Training; Women of the Moose (WOTM) Training) and read the Course Descriptions, Training Requirements, or to see what Online Training is available. This information should be helpful in determining which courses you might be interested in. Remember that any member can attend these courses or take them online. The Lodge Leadership & House Committee (LL&HC) Course can be taken online or in the classroom. It is important to note that classroom training provides the opportunity to interact and discuss real life scenarios with other lodges, members and officers. It also provides valuable insight into real life situations and how they are handled, and it allows you to ask questions of a qualified instructor. For the Loyal Order of Moose (LOOM) officers only the LL&HC training is provided online for credit, however, course material is available for classroom training for the other Lodge training listed (i.e., Governor’s Workshop; Committees Workshop; Treasurer & Audit Committee Workshop; and Trustees Workshop). These courses can only be scheduled by calling Training Coordinator Cheryl Volden at (805) 338-1305. NOTE: Both LOOM & WOTM can take the LL&HC online training course and receive credit on their training record, and Moose Rewards points if they complete the assessment and receive a passing score of 80% or higher.

Page 15: California/Nevada GOLD MINER · Sign 3 Stay for Free - Membership Campaign Page 26 CNMA Challenge Coin Membership Promotion Page 27 WOTM Membership Update Page 28 WOTM Diamonds -

Another course that is credit eligible for LOOM or WOTM members is the 2 Day Hands on Technical Training (2 HOTT). This class also rewards you with Moose Rewards points when the assessment is completed with a passing score of 80% or higher. NOTE: The requirements for the WOTM as listed in the WOTM General Laws specify that in order to earn the Star Recorder degree attendance at an Instructor Led Training session is required. The WOTM training schedule has changed to February through November. Anyone attending this training receives credit for the 2019 – 2020 fraternal unit year. All WOTM training sessions for the 2018 – 2019 year are complete. Training is scheduled through our CA/NV Chapter Analyst Coordinator Cindy Raslavsky. Her email is [email protected]. Classes will be scheduled in the coming months and posted to the CNMA website under Fraternal Education. Questions regarding this training can be directed to Cindy. Email notifications on training sessions are sent to all fraternal units when training is scheduled. If you don’t have access to email notifications sent to the fraternal units, they can be viewed by going to the CNMA website and selecting the “CLICK FOR LATEST UPDATES” icon on the CNMA website. Click on the posted item and it will take you to the announcement which contains the date & time of the training session, the cost, the instructor or instructors, the location and someone to contact for additional information on the listed course. The LCL NET section of the CNMA website has valuable procedures to assist fraternal units in using the LCL Net software; QuickBooks software; the MI online capabilities (My Membership Record, Pay Dues, Admin Menu); and other items of interest to both members and fraternal units. It is hoped that fraternal units will take advantage of these procedures as well as the expertise of the technical and training staff. Your CNMA staff is here to help – and are only an email or phone call away. They can’t help if you don’t ask for assistance!! Use the contact list of CNMA trainers that can be found under the Fraternal Ed Info section of the site to contact the training staff with any questions or concerns you may have or to request that training be provided. If you don’t have access to a computer and want more information on any training then give any one of us a call and we will get the information to you. The best way to ensure that training is coordinated in our Association is through the CNMA Training Coordinator (yep that’s me!). If you would like to host a session at your lodge, please contact me using the information provided below. Any questions or concerns about LCL.net, QuickBooks, or training within the Association can be directed to me at (805) 338-1305 or send an email to [email protected]. BILL THOMPSON – MOOSE CHARITIES CHAIRMAN

OUR GOAL

To provide the necessary resources for the continued support and

maintenance of the Mooseheart Child City and School and the Moosehaven retirement community.

Your CNMA Moose Charities Committee members:

Bob Bakman, Charles Barber, Leonard Chapman, Bill Farley, Ray Hungate, Bob Inderbieten, Gary McGrath, Jeanette Machicek, Russ Nelson,

Larry Salem, Mike Aldrich, Ted Machicek, Wayne Parker, Chip Wilbur, Joe Zenkus, and myself, Bill Thompson as Chairman

We have awesome members! Because of your combined efforts, we have great news to share. Our team is made up of the members above, each Lodges Moose Charities Chairman and of course the support of the Moose Lodge Officers is essential. We also have superb volunteers across the California/Nevada Moose Association (CNMA) who make an effort to not only improve the support for the kids and seniors but to increase the communication to all of the Moose Lodges, Moose Legions and Districts. We made an effort to improve the flow of information to our leaders and members which has improved results. We continue to send out periodic updates to Moose leaders at the Moose Lodge level and higher to keep them apprised of our efforts and current events. Because of our members who really care we have had a great year so far! The Donors Circle is a program designed to recognize donors who send in an individual tax-deductible Endowment Fund donation to Moose Charities. Individuals may join the Donors Circle at any time with a minimum $25-dollar donation and their donations are cumulative over time. As a donor reaches each level of the Donors Circle Recognition Program, a pin for that level will be sent from Moose Charities. Our CNMA members have donated $43,467.29 since May bringing our total to $333,430.23 through December 31, 2018. This program is designed to secure the future of Mooseheart and Moosehaven and with your support it can. For more information please visit http://www.moosecharities.org/donors-circle/ Moosehaven Centennial Project. The goals are to improve the quality of life for the Traditional Residents, add a substantive, dynamic housing option to the Moosehaven complex and provide Moose retirees an upgraded, enhanced, superior quality living opportunity while reducing the operating expenses. The Project will be located immediately east and across the street from the Donald R. Eisel Ohio Assisted Living Hall. It will be three stories with two wings and have 105 residential Apartments. This new facility will have in-house kitchen and dining with up-to-date 21st

century technologies. It will have enhanced In-house amenities with covered tricycle parking area and modern, durable, all-weather construction. The CNMA Moosehaven Centennial project has so far raised $236,587.85 as of December 31st That leaves us needing to raise another $13,412.15 to meet our goal. With your continued support it will happen at our Mid-Year Conference. Bob Bakman will have updated Special Projects information to report at the convention. Endowment Fund. We continue to assist our Fraternal Units with Endowment Fund collections, fundraising programs such as Cradle Fundraiser and the Rocker Fundraiser. Communicate our message to ensure participation in these and other Endowment Fund collection opportunities. Since May 2018 through December 31, 2018 we have raised $114,525.98. We have significantly reduced

the number of Moose Lodges not sending in their Endowment Fund Collections at least monthly but we can do even better with your help. Just ensure your Moose Lodge sends the money collected each and every month. It is that simple! Our m+m club. I am asking for your continued commitment and persistence in getting our message out to the members at large via the Moose Lodge newsletters, emails, websites or other means of communication you may have. The MHT Scholarship Fund is currently adequately funded and we will continue monitoring its reserves’ and establish a fundraising project when necessary. The October Founders Day Cradle fundraiser kicked off again in October. I’m happy to report we raised $7,392.96 from the Cradle fundraiser and that is an increase over last year. Thank you! Unfortunately, not every Moose Lodge is participating and we need to fix this! The good news is that the Moose Lodges that are participating really come through for which we are forever grateful! We will have just completed the Rocker fundraiser in February and with your help and support we can reach new heights in supporting our kids and seniors. In summary, we are making great progress with the help of some really awesome people! Communication continues to be a challenge as some Moose Lodges have full mailboxes and are not getting the latest information. Our administrative efforts include year-round promotion and development of fundraising efforts & activities to raise funds for Mooseheart, Moosehaven and to fund our CNMA’s Appeals. But we could use your help in promoting all areas of Moose Charities by encouraging other moose members in your conversations. Together we will make a significant difference! Thank you for your dedication and if you have any questions or comments please let me know. Thank you for your awesome efforts in making our fraternal organization better! Fraternally yours, Bill Thompson, Moose Charities Chairman, CA/NV Moose Association 2056 Lincoln Road, Yuba City, CA. 95993 (530) 713-8874

DERRICK MORRIS – CA/NV MOOSE RIDERS

MOOSE RIDERS UPDATE Members continue to renew their membership in the CA/NV Moose Riders and it is very much appreciated! This is our number 1 fundraising activity and is required to continue the generous giving that we do. It is amazing what $10 per year can generate for this activity group.

CA/NV MOOSE RIDERS NORTH EVENT – FEBRUARY 9TH – VACAVILLE’S Crab/Prime Rib Feed. When looking for a venue to host our get together, we found that Vacaville was having their inaugural Crab Feed on February 9th. We have a large group of Moose Riders that are going to attend the event. I am a FIRM believer in supporting our Moose Lodges. Why choose a non-Moose Venue when there are so many great MOOSE Venues. We are looking forward to a great time and support a Moose Lodge a true WIN-WIN!! We are also announcing a CA/NV Moose Riders Jamboree being sponsored by the Big Bear Moose Lodge #2585. June 21-24 (the weekend prior to 2019 International Moose Convention in Las Vegas, NV). Camping and meals with Live Band Saturday Night will be provided at the Big Bear Moose Lodge #2085. This will be another great time. Both events are on our website WWW.CANVMOOSERIDERS.ORG I will be present at both these events and there is still planning going on for a Southern California CA/NV Moose Riders ONLY weekend event to be held in April. Any Moose Lodges/Chapters/Moose Rider Activity groups having functions, please send me the flyer and I will add to the CA/NV Moose Riders website. Send information to [email protected]. Looking forward to a great 2019!! Derrick Morris CA/NV Moose Riders Founding Chairman/President 2014-current (5th year)

DERRICK MORRIS – INTL. HEART OF THE COMMUNITY COMMITTEE MEMBER

HEART OF THE COMMUNITY REPORT Be sure to send these in Heart of the Community Report quarterly as they are required for your Premier Lodge Award. You must submit and receive a grade of GOOD or better. It is my hope to have all Moose Lodges receive SUPERIOR ratings for all 4-quarters and receive Moose International Awards. It really is not that difficult and I believe that all CA/NV Moose Lodges do the activities to receive SUPERIOR, but just do not fill out the reports correctly. Moose Lodge Administrators and Lodge Heart of the Community Chairman – CORE INITIATIVE OPPORTUNITIES San Diego WWII Honor Flight – sponsored by CA/NV Extreme South Moose Riders and Mira Mesa Moose Lodge #2108. ROBERT BAKMAN – SPECIAL PROJECTS CHAIRMAN

CNMA MOOSEHAVEN CENTENNIAL PROJECT NEWS Hi Everyone: This update on the Centennial Project will be short as we will be putting out an updated article sometime in late February along with an updated spreadsheet so everyone will know how they are doing in the donation arena. We will also be able to provide a tentative cutoff date for ending this fundraising effort. What we know at this time is that as of Moose Charities

close of business on Friday, January 11, 2019, our donation total was $233,752.85 of the $250,000.00 minimum donation our California/Nevada Moose Association (CNMA) agreed to raise by the end of the allotted time, which at this point will be sometime after the end of our March Mid-Year Conference on March 24, 2019. Between now and then we need to raise $16,247.15 in donations and every donation, small or large will help to reach our GOAL. On January 11 and 12, the CNMA Board of Directors, which is made up of the Executive Board and District Presidents, along with invited Committee Chairman, Committee Members and interested parties, participated in an open Forum to discuss Issues the Fraternity is facing at the local, District, CNMA, Regional and International levels. One of the major ones is communications and while upward seems to be holding its own, downwards is dismal at best. At all levels there is room for improvement, however about all the information the membership needs to know is out there in one form or another; National, Association, District and local magazines, bulletins and newsletters; International Website, CNMA Website, down thru local; and the same hold for Internet, and other electronic and printed media. The problem seems to be either our membership is not aware that it exists, does not know how to access it, or just does not care. We can and better make sure it is not one of the first two!! So, as we have always asked: PLEASE communicate this information to your membership with every means of communication, including verbal, available to you. We also request that you make all aware that Donation Checks should be made out to Moose Charities, that they put CNMA MHN CENT PROJ in the memo section and mail to MOOSE CHARITIES, 155 S International Drive; Mooseheart, IL 60539-1100.

You’re A to Z Mooseheart Centennial Project Committee: Mike Aldrich, Bob Bakman, Committee Chairman, Chuck Barber, Charlie Bright, Leonard Chapman, Mark Dickey, Bill Farley, John Hughes, Bob Inderbieten, M. Johnson, Gary Mcgrath, Russ Nelson, Bill Thompson, Leonard Vyfvinkel and Joe Zenkus.

DENISE ANGELES – CA/NV WOTM HEART OF THE COMMUNITY CHAIRMAN

WOTM HEART OF THE COMMUNITY UPDATE Fires and now rain. So much keeps happening in California that it is heartbreaking. As Moose members we need to get out there and help our communities where we can. Whether it is giving money, donating supplies or just helping where we are needed. This is what we are all about. Helping when called upon in our communities. As the CA/NV Women of the Moose Heart of the Community Chairman, I along with my committee, work very

hard throughout the year to communicate with the Chapters. Our committee provides you information and materials for the many programs we have to offer such as Safe Surfin’, Special Olympics, Youth Awareness, Cop in the Box, etc. In addition, helping our Community where needed, provides Co-workers with an experience never to be forgotten. Co-workers, the Heart of the Community is a wonderful thing to experience. It is truly a satisfaction to know that you as a Co-worker have made somebody’s day, put a smile on their face or made them feel special. Help us put a smile on someone’s face. We will be collecting hats, blankets, Tommy Moose, Tommy Moose Coloring Books, Tommy Moose Bookmarkers, Tommy Moose Bags and more. Make sure to visit our WOTM Heart of the Community booth in Reno, NV for GREAT ideas on how to assist your Community. CAROL VEACH – CA/NV MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR

WOMEN OF THE MOOSE MEMBERSHI8 By Carol Veach, CA/NV Membership Coordinator

IT CAN PAY TO SPONSOR MEMBERS! There is still time to win $500 or $400 or $300, or $200 or six more prizes of $100 each if your name is drawn in Reno, NV in March! Sponsors and Candidates are as precious as Diamonds and Together We Shine.

Of course, there is a catch! In order for your name to be in the bowl our Honored Guests will draw from, you must have sponsored three members between May 01, 2018 and February 28, 2019. And you don’t have to be in Reno, NV in March but it sure is a lot of fun! Then, after the money prizes are drawn, if there is money left from our hard work selling opportunity tickets, we continue to draw names and will donate $100 each to the Donors Circle in the winner’s name. The Membership Motivators will be coming up with a new Membership Campaign that will start May 01, 2019. If YOU will take the time to print these campaign posters, you will support a great tool to help increase your Chapter membership. The posters are always colorful and eye-catching. Put them up in the lady’s room where everyone has time and opportunity to read them. Ask your newsletter editor to put maybe a smaller version in the newsletter each month. Ask your Senior Regent to talk about the campaign at meetings to remind the Co-workers to sponsor members. It really works and I believe every Chapter can make it happen. Concentrate on retaining members the minute you sign them up! Personal contact by a simple phone call can be a member-saver. Call her and let her know you will be at the Moose Home for dinner if she would like to come. In order to receive any degree, the Chapter must earn the Award of Achievement. The very first requirement – page 71 in the General Laws – is a gain in membership of one or more members. Please help your Chapter increase membership. Be a Diamond and shine away! Send me an e-mail if you need ideas or want to sound out a new one. Reach me at [email protected]. I would be happy and proud to help any way I can.

FRANKIE WYSOCKI – CNMA COUNCIL COORDINATOR

COUNCIL OF HIGHER DEGREES What can the Councils of Higher Degree do for you? We are here to help with Retention! If you need help, just call me, I will get you in touch with someone that can help. Did you know the Councils can help with members that are in destress? Dues are paid for a year to help. WE never not want to help members.

Come to the Breakfast in RENO, NV. You don't have to belong to a Council; it’s for higher degrees. Also, we have a wonderful speaker, Deputy Supreme Governor, Tom Esser. The California/Nevada Moose Association (CNMA) had a great seminar this last weekend. I learned a lot and the men and women are truly working hard to make the organization the best fraternity it can be. Come meet our new Officers, Rick Baltazar and Charly Papp. Your new Deputy Grand Regent is a hugger, she loves to hug, also good luck to the hostess Chapter; I’m so proud of these ladies. Way to go Stockdale Chapter #1203, you will do a wonderful job. See you in Reno, NV. VETERANS & PATRIOTS BULLETIN ~ BOARD

GOLD MINER NEWS & HIGHLIGHTS FEB – MAR 2019 PAGE 31

JESSE ORTA – CA/NV VALUED-VETERANS [email protected]

California-Nevada Veterans AND Patriots ~ 2019!

Where do we go from here?

Valued Veterans and Patriots, we ADVANCE. We are well into our identification and organization phase. It is time for us to do something with what we have. Veterans are a tremendous, powerful and under-appreciated resource in our society. We know what teamwork can accomplish and we know how to lead and work as a team!

CA & NV Veterans Exchange - RENO, NV March 21-24, 2019 Time again for our annual pilgrimage to learn what’s new in the world of veteran’s entitlements and to charge our ‘batteries’ at the next Mid-Year Conference. We should coordinate on a planned course of action for the year. How can we best help our Moose Lodge, our Family Fraternity and

our communities? There are a multitude of ways: we can help lead the way in membership, patriotism, community service, for starters. The vast majority of military veterans are not affiliated with ANY organization – veteran or otherwise. But every veteran wants to be a part of something that has value and contributes to his and her community. With organization, guidance and support, we can help our Moose Family to lead-the-way. Come and help us build the foundation and structure of the best communication network in California/Nevada Moose Association (CNMA). First order of business – COLA! Yes, we experienced a number of years without significant increase in Social Security, Veterans Administration (V.A.) Compensation, military and retiree pay; and it just became effective this year. It is not quite enough for that cruise to Hawaii, but at least we were not forgotten again this year. I won’t take up space with the numbers here, but for the new V.A. Compensation schedule, just go to our CNMA website and you can download a copy for you and one for your Moose Lodge bulletin board – http://www.ca-nvmoose.org/. Our CNMA webmaster Bill Thompson, an accomplished veteran, is dedicated to help us have the best and most informative veterans web pages available. We are currently listed under Heart of the Community, but should hopefully become easier to identify and find soon so that you can locate us on the front-page index. PX/BX SHOPPING – Again, remember to inform your family that tax-free BX/PX/NAVEX shopping privileges are now available to all veterans online; you must register first at VetVerify.Org.

PLEASE - Join our ~ CNMA Veterans Information Network:

PLEASE make copies and pass this Veterans Information to others and

POST IT on your Bulletin Boards! PLEASE – CA State Assembly ‘VETERAN of the YEAR’ (VOY) - There exists an Assembly Veteran of the Year recognition program – for every Assembly District statewide: Every member of the State Legislature’s Assembly selects one veteran from his or her District, to be honored at the state capitol, for their dedication, service, sacrifice and accomplishments. Considering how many active veterans we have, we would like to get into the competition. We begin by identifying all of our Moose Veterans, men and women, in every Moose Lodge. We should learn about everyone’s unique military service and highlight/introduce a different veteran in our newsletters; and then submit our nominee to each Moose District. Many of our veterans continue their volunteer community service subsequent to

their military service; and rightfully should be recognized and honored for their continuing service. By now, we should have a “District Veterans Director” at every District; and all of these Veterans Directors names should have been reported to [email protected], so that they can be noticed and posted on our CNMA website. You will be a part of the competitive review and work to select a nominee for each State Assembly District and join in the selection process every year into the future. But introducing and highlighting a “Moose LODGE Veteran of the Month” is an essential

first-step to a program that will return great membership and program benefits to our Loyal Order of Moose. It will be wonderful to have so many VOY recognized as patriotic MOOSE members! List – Veterans & Senior Discounts – We are compiling a comprehensive list of discounts available for VETERANS as well as another for SENIORS. If you have information regarding businesses and organizations which provide such discounts or considerations and would like to add it to the master list – Please send it to us at: [email protected] or ‘snail-mail’ to: CalNevaVets, 3240 Jefferson Blvd, West Sacramento, CA 95691. The VA Identification Card (VIC) program was suspended for problem fixes and is now on track you can now register and the same address we gave. The new VIC is designed for compliance with the national Real ID program. CNMA VETERANS MOOSE LODGE CALENDAR: Begin now to prepare for the remainder of the year, and create a draft/outline of projects to consider for the next 12 and 24 months. We should be visible at our County Fairs and local festivals. The VETERANS of each Moose Lodge should develop an annual plan to consider their participation, recognition or support for Veterans events and activities such as StandDowns, Memorial Day, D-Day (June 6), Flag Day (June 14), Independence Day, Veterans Day and ETC. Remember that we have heroes amongst us; please make an effort to identify them; then we will help to organize and recognize them.

www.CA-NVMoose.org/ [email protected] “Veterans 50% More Likely to Die by Suicide” The suicide rate of young veterans has significantly increased since

2005, and V.A. data also show that veterans are still more likely to commit suicide than their civilian counterparts. All Americans should know by now, that on average 18-22 military veterans commit suicide every day! – a national outrage. WE, Moose can help in a number of ways, first – by increasing public awareness to this critical issue. Come to our Moose Valued Veteran display booth at the CNMA Mid-Year Conference in March at the Atlantis Investment Emporium in Reno, NV and get some materials and advocacy souvenirs. We will have more of the ‘Suicide Awareness’ bracelets and encourage everyone to please take one; and then take

a dozen back to your Moose Lodge. This is a problem that good Americans cannot ignore. Remember RENO, NV – March 21-24, 2019

V.A. Benefits – We are preparing summaries of V.A. programs and entitlements so that all Moose Veterans and dependents can find information regarding resources that are available to veterans; and some of them are already available on our website. For example, we have received a number of inquiries regarding “A&A” (Aid & Attendance) which can provide in-home services if you require the aid of another person in order to per-form activities of daily living, such as bathing, feeding, dressing, etc., or protecting yourself from the hazards of your daily environment, OR you are bedridden, in that your disability or disabilities require that you remain in bed apart from any prescribed course of convalescence or treatment, OR you are a patient in a nursing home due to mental or physical incapacity, OR you have corrected visual acuity of 5/200 or less, in both eyes, or concentric contraction of the visual field to 5 degrees or less. Then there is “HOUSEBOUND” – an increased monthly pension amount paid to a veteran or surviving spouse who is substantially confined to his or her home because of permanent disability. You may be eligible if: [1] You are eligible for basic pension benefits AND [2] you have a single permanent disability evaluated as 100-percent disabling AND, due to a disability or disabilities, you are permanently and substantially confined to your immediate premises, OR [3] You have a single permanent disability evaluated as 100-percent disabling AND another disability or disabilities, independently evaluated as 60-percent or more disabling. And then there is the issue of Long-Term Care services – also posted on our CNMA website. These are programs in which veterans generally have no interest – UNTIL – they are faced with that particular problem. We are increasingly seeing veterans who are disadvantaged; whether homeless, unemployed or underemployed. We should/must know enough about the V.A. pension programs to direct those individuals for help. Long-Term Care – Everyone must anticipate this need. We are preparing a more in-depth report on the multiple considerations regarding long-term care for our next CNMA newsletter!

PLEASE— Remember to POST this newsletter on bulletin boards & make more copies if members need them!

INTERNATIONAL MOOSE CONVENTION

Las Vegas, NV June 27-July 1, 2019 & Dinner Show Mark your calendars for this very special “Blast from the Past!” We are working with a volunteer group that performs 1940’s style U.S.O. ‘Entertain-the-troops” shows throughout the country. They perform for donations which fund their FREE shows for injured and disabled veterans at V.A. hospitals across the country. IF there is enough interest from members, we project holding a special show on our first night of the International Convention in Las Vegas, NV. This is a teasingly naughty and bawdy song, dance, comedy and light-hearted burlesque show that will transport attendees back to the 40’s & 50’s complete with polka dot dresses,

bright red lips, barrel roll hair styles, long velvet or sequin gowns with gloves up to the elbows. Transporting us back to the era of speakeasies, you will certainly enjoy the multiple themes that include corsets, fishnets and big feather fans! IF – there is support, we project this special CNMA Veterans’ Program for the first night of Convention. To show your support, please vote a show of support through your District and Moose Legion organizations. This is an innocently bawdy, fun, sexy light-hearted and hilarious USO style troop entertainment and comedy show that will have attendees laughing to tears – show is for 18 and over, and fun for all. This is California Pin Ups on Tour, good looking guys and gals - their mission, is to bring comedy and entertaining relief to military and injured veterans in V.A. hospitals. All proceeds fund their travel and overages are distributed to Veterans’ Organizations. It is a vintage variety show that we will bring to our CNMA Convention – AND – that can be available to our Moose Lodges as a great way to attract veterans in the community to “come to the Moose Lodge” and an introduction to the Moose.

WE NEED YOUR SHOW OF SUPPORT TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN!

CONVENTIONS: Wishing you all a notable and successful All-American we hope to see many of you at our International Convention and we remind you to plan for our greatest reunion – the CNMA Annual Conference September 5-8, 2019 at the Atlantis Casino Resort in Reno, NV. We would like to provide help and services for our Valued Veterans (men & women), but we need to get ideas regarding what information or services would be appreciated. We could provide Veterans Service Officers for benefit and claims information, VA health registrations, Hypertension checks, ETC. Please let us know what YOUR Moose Valued Veterans want and need, and let us try to help. We expect to have a separate Valued-Veterans planning conference to allow us to better organize, plan and coordinate activities for the new year. Consider a Veteran’s Program: “Hygiene-4-Heroes”, “Vet Care Package”, “Homeless Vet” ETC. We will have the new Veterans Reference Book in Reno. If you want to learn HOW-TO do these things, just ask and we will help you.

Who Am I? - Our CNMA has been leading by example under the leadership of our dynamic CNMA officers for several years. Remember that CNMA was the first to start organizing veterans and patriots in 2014. We have our fraternity's first Veterans Pamphlet and now we are planning to be the first association to distribute our individual and personalized CNMA MOOSE VETERAN/PATRIOT CARDS to Moose from throughout our International fraternity. Yes, cards for Veterans, men & women and Patriots! Our initial proposal, limited by time restraints, is a card that can be handed to any veteran visiting your Moose Lodge and wanting to know more about MOOSE and basic V.A. benefits and services. It can also be provided to an indigent veteran panhandling or in crisis on the street; providing the national V.A.’s 24/7 ‘Veteran-In Crisis toll-free phone number. For information on ordering your cards, please check with your Moose District Veterans Director every District should have appointed one by now. These cards will be personalized with your information on lines 2-3-4- & 5 and are available now, 500 for $25. and that already includes shipping and handling. Get order forms from your District Veterans Director or from the CNMA website www.ca-nvmoose.org or from [email protected]. Yes, we will do more, as well as bigger and better things when time permits; but this is for NOW! If you are not a VETERAN, but an American PATRIOT, you can still have your Name, Moose Degree, commentary and your Moose Lodge identification and location. And your suggestions are always welcome- [email protected] .

Veterans Justice Courts - Veterans Justice Courts can take into consideration, the extenuating circumstances (PTSD & ETC.) of military veterans in the civil system. Many communities do not have such programs for multiple reasons; but one primary cause is ‘personnel costs’ and the need for sensitive staff that understands and appreciates the circumstances of military service. ‘Veteran volunteers’ are a great way to help ‘jump start’ such an initiative in your county. Ask us how? Services at Convention - We want to provide specific services to our veterans and dependents at the next Conference – but we need to know what YOU want. We promise that we will work to provide the best services: Claims, Service Officers, Blood Pressure checks

and ETC. There is so, so much information, and so little space and time. PLEASE come join your comrades at the next CNMA Conference, March 21-24, 2019 at the Atlantis Hotel in Reno, NV. We are hoping to have a dedicated ‘Veterans Forum’ to set a direction toward goals. Do you want help to create such a patriotic program at your Moose Lodge or your District? [email protected] - If you want to learn HOW-TO do these things, just ask and we will help you.

IT IS TIME FOR EVERY FRATERNAL UNIT TO RE-EVALUATE WHAT THEY ARE DOING!

OUR JOB IS TO HELP YOU OBTAIN THE GOALS YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL!

PROMOTE MEMBERSHIP!

• know the importance of gaining new members into your Moose Lodge and keeping current ones?

• know and are they reminded of the "Membership Departments" award program? • know and are they reminded of the "California/Nevada Moose Association award

Program? • have the opportunity to see these programs by way of the advertisements sent to

your Moose Lodge? • know about "Member Benefits" well enough to share this info with their prospective

candidates? And, most importantly, is your Moose Lodge doing anything to recognize your sponsors by way of:

• Sponsor awards "presented" at enrollments. • Sponsors names in your newsletter alongside the name of their new member. • Or by just making a "big deal" over your members willingness to be a SPONSOR.

Remember that each new member that enrolls in your Moose Lodge and spends a little over $10. a week will mean an extra $600 a year to your social quarters. If your board of officers would CONCENTRATE on enrolling and getting 2 new members actively involved in your Moose Lodge, it would mean an additional $14,400 in revenue each year. "Just 2 new members a month."

Don't tell US that the combined forces of your Board of Officers and a good Membership Committee couldn't work together to make this a goal. It is very workable and should be the focus of every Moose Lodge.
