CME STATEMENTThis activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and California Thoracic Society (CTS). COURSE INFORMATIONACTIVITY SUMMARY: Three key topic areas will be addressed by multidisciplinary faculty on Day 1: oxygen therapy updates followed by a hands-on practical session on oxygen delivery devices; COPD with updates in medical therapy, endobronchial valve interventional pulmonology and ambulatory portable ventilatory support; and medical ethics. Hot topics in pulmonary medicine will be highlighted on Day 2: advances in pulmonary hypertension, biologics in asthma therapy, interstitial lung disease updates, cystic fibrosis updates, and lung transplant evaluation and management planning.
TARGET AUDIENCE: The program is designed for all health care professionals involved with the oxygen therapy care and treatment of patients with COPD, pulmonary hypertension, asthma and ventilation. This includes pulmonologists, critical care physicians, internal medicine physicians, sleep specialists, in-training fellows and residents, NPs, PAs, RNs, RTs, sleep technologists and PharmDs and any other health care professionals in the field of pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES• Review clinical application of oxygen therapy in outpatient and critical care settings. • Review treatment strategies for COPD, including updates in GOLD guidelines, endobronchial
valve interventional pulmonary, and highly portable noninvasive ventilation systems. • Review the ethics of end of life and medically inappropriate therapies. • Demonstrate understanding of 2018 diagnostic and treatment guidelines for pulmonary
hypertension. • Develop a personalized management plan for asthma therapy to include biologics. • Apply evidenced based treatments for interstitial lung disease, cystic fibrosis, and transplant
evaluation.
