Calgary Student VisitDetails

– 8 students and 2 teachers from each school– To be held Friday, May 25 – Saturday, June 2– Selection of students must be complete and

confirmed participation required by March 16th, 2007

Accommodations• During the Calgary Student Visit, you will stay at

Camp Chestermere. The camp is located about 10 minutes east of the Calgary city limits.

Accommodations• Camp Chestermere has a girls’ cabin, a boys’ cabin and a teachers’

cabin. • The cabins each have 3 rooms that sleep 10–11 people

per room. We provide clean pillows and sleeping bags for all.• There is teacher supervision every night in the boys’ and girls’ cabins.

Camp Chestermere• You will eat most of your meals in the main lodge.

Camp Chestermere• This is the main gym, where you can play floor hockey,

basketball, etc. It’s also where we hold a lot of our games and activities.

Camp Chestermere• On a couple of nights during camp we’ll gather around

the campfire to sing, play games and have fun with the camp counselors.

Camp Chestermere• The camp is located on Chestermere Lake. During your

time at camp we won’t do anything in the water – but the sunsets on the lake are gorgeous!

Spending Money• You don’t have to bring money• If you choose to, it must be in Canadian dollars• Your money is your responsibility • Don’t bring more than CDN$50.00 (approx US$40.00)

Exchange Rate (will vary)US$1.00 = CDN$1.23

Calling Home• You are not permitted to bring a cell phone to camp• Once your plane has arrived in Calgary, a call will be made

to notify your parents of your safe arrival• There is one phone at camp, for emergencies only• Should you need to call home, it is a good idea to have a

phone card with you (for U.S. and Mexican students, make sure that the card will work from Canada to your city) or that you can call collect

• Parents will be given the program manager’s phone number in case there is an emergency at home

Packing List & What to Bring• Comfortable running shoes

or hiking boots• Jacket (waterproof and

windproof is ideal)• Shirts (long and short

sleeved)• Sweater• Pants and jeans• Shorts (1–2 pairs)• Underwear

• Socks• Gloves, hat and scarf• Toiletries (toothbrush,

toothpaste, soap, shampoo, eye glasses, contact solution, etc)

• At least two towels and face cloths

• Pillowcase• Umbrella• Camera (optional)• Bug Repellent (optional)

Laundry services are not available at camp, so bring enough clothing for the whole week.

Packing List – What NOT to Bring• Cell phones • Video games or Gameboys• CD players or iPods• Anything you don’t want to lose

Helpful Hint• Label everything that you bring to camp. There is no way of

returning items to you if your name is not on them.

– Banff National Park– The Royal Tyrrell Museum – The Calgary Zoo– The Calgary Police canine unit– Calgary-area school visit– Bar U Ranch

You’ll also participate in numerous activities at camp.
