Calendar of Events August 30 – September 4

- The 177th Columbia County Fair will be

held at the Columbia County Fairgrounds,

182 Hudson Avenue in Chatham. Visit

September 5 - Westerlo Town Board meets 7 p.m. at

town hall.

September 7 - Greenville Republican caucus will be

held at 7 p.m. at the North Barn of

Vanderbilt Park. All registered Republican

voters in the town are eligible to vote.

- The Alzheimer's Association presents

Effective Communication Strategies at the

Rensselaerville Library at 5 p.m. Join them

to explore how communication takes place

when someone has Alzheimer's, learn to

decode the verbal and behavioral messages

delivered by someone with dementia, and

identify strategies to help you connect and

communicate at each stage of the disease.

September 9 - After a summer hiatus, the Memoir

Writing Group will begin meeting again at

the Westerlo Library at 11 a.m. This group

provides its members a safe and supportive

place to learn together. Led by Lila

Hollister Smith, this group is open to all

interested in self-expression through the art

of writing. The group meets once a month

on the second Saturday of each month and

new members are welcomed.

September 10 - Noted scientists Dr. Robert Titus and

Dr. Johanna Titus will present a special talk

about the geology of the Clermont State

Historic Site, and will explore its journey

from the distant past at 2 p.m. After the

lecture, join them for a walk around

Clermont's grounds to see some specific

geological formations. For information visit

- A program on the Bronck Family at

Home in Pieter’s World, detailing how early

settlers conducted their daily lives, will be

presented at the Bronck Museum in

Coxsackie at 1 and 3 p.m. Admission is $7

for adults, $3.50 for children and members.

Seating is limited for this program and is

offered on a first come basis.

September 11 - New Baltimore Town Board meets 7

p.m. at town hall.

- Cairo Town Board meets 7 p.m. at town

hall.

- The 6th annual dedication ceremony of

the Greene County first responders’

memorial monument will be held at the

Greene County Emergency Operations

Center, 25 Volunteer Drive in Cairo at 11

a.m. Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Kevin

Haverly’s name will be added to the

memorial this year.

- Greenville BOE Tour of Facilities

begins at 6 p.m. at the Ellis Cafeteria 6 p.m.

September 12 - Primary Day in New York State.

September 13 - A rabies clinic for Greene County cats,

dogs and ferrets will be held at the Freehold

Firehouse, Route 32 in Freehold from 6-8

p.m. Please call ahead for ferrets 518-719-

3600. Bring record of your pet’s previous

vaccination for a three-year certificate. If no

record is shown, a one-year vaccination will

be given.

September 14 - Rensselaerville Town Board meets at 7

p.m. at town hall.

September 16 - The Medusa Fire Company will have its

first all-you-can-eat breakfast of the season

at the firehouse from 7-11 a.m.

- The Mountain Top Historical Society’s

6th annual postcard show will be held at the

Ulster & Delaware Train Station in Haines

Falls from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Society

will also be selling ephemera from their

attic. Admission is $3. Food available.

- The Columbia-Greene Out of the

Darkness community walk, on behalf of the

American Foundation for Suicide

Prevention, will be held at Dutchman’s

Landing in Catskill at 10 a.m. Visit

AFSP.org/ColumbiaGreene to register.

- New Baltimore town wide yard sale day.

September 17 - The Kiskatom Fire Department will hold

its annual chicken barbecue at the firehouse,

4838 Route 32 from 4:30-7 p.m. Take-outs

will be available from 3-4 p.m. Call 518-

September 18 - Greenville BOE meets 7 p.m. in the high

school library.

- Greenville Town Board meets 7 p.m. at

Pioneer Hall.

September 19 - Durham Town Board meets 7:30 p.m. at

town hall.

September 20 - The Wheels of Time Car Club will hold

a cruise in the country at GNH Lumber,

Route 32 in Greenville at 5 p.m. All types of

vehicles are welcome.

September 22 - The Greene County Public Health

Department will offer a flu clinic for adults

over 18 at the Washington Irving Senior

Center, 15 Academy Street in Catskill from

9:30-11:30 a.m. Call 518-719-3600 for

more information regarding cost and

accepted insurance plans. Also, September

25 at the Acra Community Center and

September 26 at the Coxsackie Senior

Center.

Fifty Years Ago in Greenville is the next Greenville Local History Group program. Greenville

Pioneer reporter Audrey Matott will share her discovery of Greenville’s issues and lifestyle based on

a review of the weekly missives of the 1967 Greenville Local. Using a blend of headlines, regular

columns, ongoing topics, as well as input from community interviews and the meeting’s attendees,

Matott will paint the broad brushstrokes of an era that was just yesterday for some. The public is

invited to the Greenville Library, Monday, September 11, 7:30 p.m. to listen and participate at this

meeting that is free of charge. Light refreshments will be served.

The Teal Ribbon Run/Walk, coordinated by

Caring Together, Inc., seeks to raise

awareness of ovarian cancer and raise

funds in support of research toward

developing an early detection test as well

as more effective treatment options for

women with recurrent ovarian cancer.
