Our Vege Garden

A huge thank you to Damian and his dad for weeding the vegetable patch on our last curriculum day. We have

planted cauliflowers and green peppers so fingers crossed they will grow in this dry weather.

From the Principal Family Fun Night Our traditional Family Fun Night is next Monday night 19th March. Families are invited to come up to school for a BBQ sausage sizzle and participate in a range of fun activities, run by volunteers of the Life Ministry Church and organised by Peter Harris our school chaplain. It is always a great night; the children really enjoy all the activities and parents can use this opportunity to socialise with other parents and staff. Siblings are welcome. This year one of our Year 4 students, Charlee T wrote to Channel 10 to invite the news team to come out and do their weather segment here at school. So we will be on the news!! On the night we will be choosing some students to feature and be televised but the cameras will be taking long range shots as well. There will be a 5:30pm and a 6pm segment of a couple of minutes each time. If you do not wish your children to be televised could I ask that you ensure they are not within range of the cameras at those times. Local Politicians Visit Yesterday we had a visit from Tim Smith, the Shadow Education Minister and Bridget Valance who is replacing Christine Fyffe (the local member) when she retires. They met with Brad Mayall, one of our School Councillors and me to tour the school and look at any potential improvements that could be made to our facilities. We argued the case for the school to receive capital works funding to rebuild the core building with a view to improving the lighting, roofing and eaves as well as the concrete paths around the school. The school was promised capital works funding 3 years ago but although other schools have received major capital works funding our school missed out. We also looked at our school oval which is badly in need of redevelopment. We are hoping that Tim will be able to plead our case. Yoga The response to the expression of interest for continuing lunch time yoga classes has been amazing. 47 children would like to continue with this program. I am in negotiations currently to see how best we can address this. Hopefully we can start it up again next term. I will keep you informed. On Psych Services

We are now lucky to have an OnPsych staff member at Chirnside Park Primary School. Lily is a passionate psychologist who works with both children and adolescents who are experiencing a range of psychological issues such as anxiety and mood disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, interpersonal, learning and behavioural disorders, exam stress, self-harming and adjustment difficulties (social & situational). Lily employs psychological techniques such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, client-centred and solution-focused therapy with psycho-education. Lily firmly believes that a collaborative approach will produce the most successful outcomes for a child. If you believe that this might benefit you child, please contact me for further information. OnPsych are a team of fully qualified and registered psychologists who specialise in child and adolescent services working in primary and secondary schools in both individual and group settings. Services are performed at NO COST to the school, student or parent through Medicare bulk billing. Carpark at Footy Oval Could we remind all parents to reverse into the car parks at the footy oval. It is safer to drive out rather than back out as students do forget and walk through the car park.

Physical Education House Cross Country – Wednesday 21st March. The 2018 House cross Country will be held this coming Wednesday 21st March. All students will take part in age and gender graded cross country races between 9:10am – 10:45am at Kimberley Reserve next to the school. A notice was handed out last week regarding the event and what House students will be in for 2018. Thanks to all the parents that have offered to assist on the day. It is much appreciated.

Student Achievement Over the weekend Zoe. C competed in the Little Athletics State Championships at Lakeside Stadium. In an amazing display of her outstanding running ability she won the u9 Girls 800m race in a big personal best time. She also won a bronze medal in her less favoured 400m event and placed 14th in Long Jump. Awesome effort Zoe. What a champion and well deserved.

Lilydale Lake Park Run Being so close to Lilydale Lake I highly recommend anyone who enjoys a run or stroll to get down to Lilydale Lake on Saturday mornings to take part in Park Run. For anyone who doesn’t know about Park Run, 5km events are held all around the world every Saturday morning at certain parks and reserves. There is no cost to run, and the atmosphere is very friendly and low key. You just need to register online once at the Park Run Australia website, print off your unique barcode and go to any Park Run event whenever and wherever you like. I have seen many of our students competing at Lilydale Lake, and I myself love going down there, trying to run

a new personal best. I was very thrilled to run a new course record of 14.54 mins for 2 laps of the lake a few weeks ago. Well done to Daniel. G and Emily H on their recent efforts at Lilydale Lake Park Run. Hopefully we can see many more students and families down there soon.

Mooroolbark Soccer Club

Mooroolbark Soccer Club is a great family and community club. All Junior coaches are volunteers. In 2017 our senior men's and women's team played in State League 1 and unlike other teams at this level all players play for no payment so our registration fees go towards developing our junior players. There are still vacancies for our junior teams with the season commencing on the weekend of April 14/15.
