Day 2 : June 13

Upon landing in Naples, we’ll meet Tommaso and transfer to the Sorrento Hotel where you’ll have time to relax, freshen up, and head out for a night on the town in the home of limocello.

Our first full day begins with a walking tour of Sorrento with Tommaso. We’ll see the highlights of the town, including the fortification, the cathedral (c. 15th Century), the panoramic point, and the San Francesco cloister. The old-est ruins in town are Oscan, dating from about 600 B.C.. After the walk, we’ll take a break for a gelato demonstration and tasting.

After lunch, we’ll take our bus to Pompeii for a private tour with our local ex-pert (Note: wear comfortable shoes).

The evening will be yours to stroll the streets of Sorrento and have dinner on your own.

Pompeii Mt. Vesuviuswas established in 600 B.C. and was slowly recovering from an earthquake (in A.D. 62) when it was destroyed by Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. in about 25 hours.

Day 4 : June 15

Live la dolce vita!—the sweet life. We’ll return to Sorrento in the afternoon where we will have a spe-cial invitation for dinner at Tomma-so’s friends’ house.

Today we’ll enjoy Capri and will take a private boat to the most celebrated is-land of Italy! Upon ar-rival, you’ll enjoy free time for your own exploration: Don’t miss the Piazzeta. Take a convertible taxi and explore the island with its beau-tiful scenery. Stroll the streets for world-class shopping.

The Amalfi coast is waiting for us! We’ll depart by bus to the town of Amalfi. We’ll visit the cathedral (c. 9th Century), the highlight of the town, then stroll down the main pedestrian street to enjoy some shopping. We’ll leave Amalfi and head to Positano, where you will have time to explore this beautiful village on your own. This seaside village was an essential stop for ancient Greeks on their expedi-tions west. Positano eventually became a wealthy market port from the 15th to 17th centuries.

Day 6 : June 17

We’ll leave Sorrento in the morning and stop at one of the most beau-tiful archaeological Greek sites of the Mediterranean, Paestum, where we’ll tour with a local expert. The ruins are famous for their three an-

cient Greek temples dating from about 600 - 450 B.C.. Afterwards, we’ll head to a water buffalo mozzarella farm for lunch. After lunch, we’ll

depart for Matera, where we’ll have the evening to ourselves to explore the town or relax at the hotel spa.

Today a local expert will take us on a tour of one of the most ancient towns in the world. We will learn how difficult it was to live there until

the 1950s. The area was first settled in the Paleolithic era (10th millenium B.C.). The town of Matera was founded in in 251 B.C.. You will have lunch

on your own, followed by an afternoon free to explore, relax, or treat yourself at the hotel spa.

We’ll leave Matera in the morning for Lecce and will stop en route in the trulli town of Alberobello (the cone shaped houses)—a UNESCO world heritage site. Gino, a local professional sommelier, will lead us as we taste and pair food with the region’s best Negramaro and Primitivo wines. After arriving in Lecce, we’ll

check into our hotel and have the evening to ourselves.

DAY 9June 20

We’ll have all day in Lecce. In the morning we’ll go to the local market to grocery shop before our private cooking lesson. For lunch, we’ll enjoy the fruits of our labor before having the afternoon free to discover Lecce (considered the Florence of Southern Italy) and the most beautiful baroque of Apulia.

Day 10 : June 21

After hitting the road in the morning we’ll stop at the ceramic and pottery town of Grottaglie. We’ll have time for shopping at the many

artisan and ceramic stores. The craftsmen love to talk about their craft, so be sure to get to know them. After lunch in Grottaglie, we’ll drive

through one of the most picturesque areas of Italy—between the heel and the boot. Along the drive, will see beautiful cultivation of the finest agricultural produce. Upon arrival in Tropea, we’ll check in to the hotel

and you’ll have the evening to explore on your own.

Live the Tropean life—spend the morning at one of the world’s most beautiful beaches or stroll the streets of this historic town and pop into one of the many

shops for delicious baked goods. After lunch on your own, we’ll visit a local third-generation winery for a tour by the owner, followed by a wine tasting and feast of homemade local delicacies. On the way back to Tropea we will stop in

Pizzo Calabro to taste the local specialty: tartufo gelato!
