On tracks all over the world, vintage racing categories draw passionate racers and spectators alike to see classic bikes race. In Victoria these are held at the Phillip Island circut during the Australian Championships as well as the Victorian Classic Titles in April at the Broadford State Motorcycling Complex. There are different classes from hobby racers through to professional divisions.

Ace Cafe - London

During the week these riders work mundane jobs, however on the weekend they don the leathers and take their pride and joy for a ride through the country side or along the Great Ocean Road. They usually meet up with other riders for coee and scones at rural cafes.

Cafe Racers are sometimes exploited for their serious levels of ‘cool’ by marketing departments and companies aiming to attract young trendy people into their daggy stores. These bikes are either built with passion by a true ‘Ton-upper’ or just slapped together to look like a genuine cafe racer with a tacky logo slapped on the side.If a real Cafe Racer rider walked past they would probably spit on it or kick it over out of disgust.

Sunday Evening at the Bowls Club

The Old Rockabilly Legend

The 59 Club is a British motorcycle club with chapters all over the world. Started in 1959, it was adopted by the Rockers in the 1960s.The Australian branch website states that they are a “Motorcycle Club for Riders of Classic Motorcycles, Cafe Racers or Motorcycles built in the spirit of a Cafe Racer.” It ws founded on the idea that classic bikes are meant to be ridden, not polished. They share a passion for riding, racing and fixing bikes. They meet at the Station 59 Pub in Richmond on the first Wednesday and thirdThursday of every month and go on regular weekend rides. They hold two major rides every year, the Mods vs. Rockers run and the 59 Club Burn Up, both raising money for charity.

The Ageing BabyboomerThese men spent their youth listening to Rock and Roll, drinking beer and riding mo-torcycles before becoming accountants and doctors. Born in the post war baby boom, they are now starting to retire from their white collar jobs and now can freely indulge in motorcycles without the burden of children and nagging wifes.

The Young Bloke

The Collector

The collector is passionate about a specifiic type of motorcycle or motorcycles in general. They have quite a lot of money to fuel this expensive hobby and own many classic motorcycles. They have one bike which they ride regularly and the others sit in the garage like a museum exhibit.
