• CAD( Computer aided design) includes creation , development

and analysis, based on computers

• CAM(Computer Aided Manufacturing) includes use of computer

to control, manage and to plan the operation of manufacturing

of the design part.

Page 4: Cad/Cam Development

• Better than Drafting

• More Accuracy

• Time saving

• Cost Reduction

• Improvement in Production.

• A die is specialized tool used in manufacturing in industies to cut

or shape material using a Press

Types of Dies

• Blanking Die

• Piercing Die

• Drawing Die

Page 11: Cad/Cam Development

• Getting IGES File

• Focus on Desired part From Whole 3D Model

• Designing of Die of that Part in Software

• Generation Of G & M Code

• Feeding of Code in CNC Machinery Center

• Manufacturing On Machine

Page 12: Cad/Cam Development

• Alignment of Die According to Machine.

• Finally Manufacturing

Page 13: Cad/Cam Development
Page 14: Cad/Cam Development

• After extracting the required shape of the part, die designer

measures the dimension of the part.

• After knowing the dimension of the part , die is made that

fulfills the required dimension of the part obtained by the die.

• After this they select the material for die.

Page 15: Cad/Cam Development

• In 3d designing they used the pro-e and

del cam

• The Dies is design in manufacturing module

Page 16: Cad/Cam Development

• Two dies were designed to make the required part

First die:-

Using Dell Cam

to design first

Die cavity

Page 19: Cad/Cam Development

• Extract the part

from first die and

Bend its edges and

get the required

shape.

• Designing of Second die

The 3d Model is

made on DEL CAM.

Part on it.

• The hole is to be made on our part using punch die.

• We have

Page 23: Cad/Cam Development

• When the punch is

• Removed the given

• Shape is produced

• G Code(Geometry code):-

• A code that determine the type of operation perform on the

machine like motion, speed and feed of the tool.

M Code(Miscellaneous Code):-

• M code change the cutting tool,

turn on or off the coolant, spindle

Work piece clamps or etc.

Page 27: Cad/Cam Development

• The G code is generated through the “Power Mill” in industry

JCPL

• These code are transferred to CNC with the help of Jacket that

provided by the Manufacturer of Machine.

Page 28: Cad/Cam Development

• A software to edit G code.

• If any of amendment is

to be made in code,

then this is done by the

Edge Cam Editor

A True Picture of Edge Cam Editor

Page 29: Cad/Cam Development

• Picture of G-codes that are being read by CNC machining

center.

Page 30: Cad/Cam Development

• After generating the G-code the codes are Uploaded on the

Jacket and it is inserted into the machine.

• The CNC Machine is follows the

data given in the form of codes

and makes the die.

Limits of CNC:-

X-axis = 1000mm

Y-axis = 500mm

Z-axis = 500mm

Page 31: Cad/Cam Development

• Different types of tool tips are used according to the desired

shape of the die

• Different tips are used to have different cutting pattern.

• The available tips in JCPL are shown below.

• Carbide is the material for these tips.

Page 34: Cad/Cam Development

• After Manufacturing the die

In the CNC m/cing center

it is brought into workshop

Area where clamps ,

hinges are placed

so that it fixed in to the

machine correctly and

Aligned well.

Page 35: Cad/Cam Development

• It is impossible to check all the part dimensionally so we make

fixture.

• We place the part on the fixture if is is fix accurately it means

our part is ok dimensionally

• If part is not fit into the fixture it means that the part is not ok

and should be rejected.
