Message from the Community Sector Council Newfoundland and Labrador

Initiated in 2008, the Cabot Loop Clusters Pilot Project has been working with voluntary, nonprofit groups to create a better understanding of the involvement of volunteers and the wide array of organizations throughout your region. We have been making connections and linking people across organizations and across communities. And we have been providing opportunities for groups to come together to network, share ideas, skills and experience. Part of our work has been to identify the many volunteer groups which are sustaining communities and adding to the quality of life. The Community Sector Council Newfoundland and Labrador is delighted to publish this Directory of Organizations in the Cabot Loop Clusters Area. Completing this document has taken a lot of time and effort. We have contacted each group personally to verify accuracy and to get permission to publish contact information. We are most grateful to all the representatives of organizations who responded to our requests and kindly completed the forms. CSC apologizes if there are any errors or omissions. We encourage you to contact us if your group is not included and when information needs to be updated. We keep an active listing of groups and would really appreciate your contacting us with new information so we can communicate more effectively with you. CSC and the Cabot Loop Clusters Project Leadership Team thank the Voluntary and Non-Profit Secretariat, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, for their tremendous support for our work. Reading this Directory provides a wonderful snapshot of the community sector in the Cabot Loop area. It underlines the magnitude of effort being made in your communities by voluntary groups – groups supporting youth and seniors, cultural and heritage activities, recreation and sports; running town councils; keeping harbours safe; faith groups; health and social groups… What a testimony to the people of the Bonavista Peninsula! Whenever I read a document like this I am again reminded of the huge contribution which the voluntary community sector makes. The Community Sector Council of Newfoundland and Labrador is proud to have the opportunity to get to know so many of you and we tip our hat to your good work.

I would like to congratulate the Community Sector Council and all the participating organizations with the Clusters pilot project for the dedication, commitment and effort that have gone into this initiative. How To Use This Directory

The purpose of this Directory is to provide quick reference and access to the many voluntary, nonprofit organizations and community-based programs which exist in the Cabot Loop area. Knowing the format and how to use this Directory will greatly facilitate its use. You can search this directory in many ways: alphabetically by proper name of the organization, by category or type of group, and by community.

Alphabetical Listings: Organizations within the Cabot Loop area are listed by their proper names in alphabetical order in the main body of the Directory, starting on page 1. For example, you will find Harbour Authority - Plate Cove on page 15; or the Vista Family Resource Centre on page 31. If the symbol (O) occurs in front of a telephone number it indicates an office or business, (H) indicates a home phone number and Fax indicates facsimile numbers. The phone numbers of some service clubs have been omitted because they change frequently as they are the home numbers of organizations’ representatives. Email addresses are indicated with the word email preceding the actual address and Internet addresses are indicated with website preceding the site’s address on the World Wide Web. Following the name of each organization you will see (S) or (V). The (S) indicates that the organization has paid staff and (V) indicates that the group is made up solely of volunteers at the time the information was collected. The Category Index, starting on page 33, provides access to information by category of the organization. This should assist you in finding organizations even if you do not know the exact name. The number next to each organization’s name indicates the page where more information on the organization can be found. The Community Index, on page 36, provides a list of communities within the Cabot Loop area in alphabetical order. Under each community, organizations are arranged alphabetically by their proper names and the number next to the name will guide you to the page where more information about the organization can be found. A considerable effort has been made to ensure the inclusion of comprehensive and accurate information. We have attempted to gather as much information as possible using a variety of methods including mail, telephone, email, and community channels. Despite attempts to contact and identify organizations, we may have missed some groups. Some organizations did not respond to our requests for information, and some may have sent information that was out of date. Some organizations may have chosen not to be included. Therefore, there may be errors or omissions, and for these we apologize. The Community Sector Council NL gathers and updates data on a continuous basis; we would appreciate being notified of corrections, omissions, or new organizations which should be recorded. Please complete the form on page v, or call us at 1-866-753-9860.
