Building a fibre optic cable network with microduct cabling solution
Installing telecommunication and access network cabling in metropolitan and suburban areas is demanding. Urban landscape is constantly evolving: it is impossible to know what the future holds, and what are the needs of tomorrow’s cities. In metropolitan and suburban areas space is limited, and cabling should be done underground or on existing infrastructure. Nestor Cables’ microduct cabling solution defies these limitations. We offer you a solution to create versatile and modifiable microduct networks efficiently.
Why microduct cabling solution?
Microduct solution by Nestor Cables includes:
High fiber density of low weight microduct cables combined with ease of handling these cables, increased jetting speeds and improved duct and space utilization result in reduced costs.
Microduct cabling solution offers versatility because wide variety of cables, ducts and accessories in different sizes and styles can be configurated in endless ways in nearly all possible cabling scenarios.
Solution is perfect for growing and changing cities and neighborhoods: during the initial installation you don’t need to know how the cable network will look like years ahead because microduct network can be altered easily afterwards.
1 32
Access and metropolitan network infrastructure is widely built by laying duct systems underground, and these existing duct systems can be utilised in microduct technology. Microcabling systems can be built on these same duct routes or directly to the ground. Space is especially scarse when installing cables in cities and neighborhoods. Because microduct cables are remar-kably smaller than traditional cables, you can also save space with microduct cabling system. Microduct technology allows you to install more capacity than traditional technologies. Microcabling technology allows flexible expansion of the network, and installation of microduct cables is handy. After microducts are installed, cables can be easily blown into microducts whether building a new network or expanding older existing network. By using microduct technology CAPEX and OPEX can be significantly reduced.

Fibre optic cables for microduct solution
Microduct cabling solution by Nestor Cables has been tested in several projects all around the world. Recently we have supplied microduct cables, ducts and accessories to various projects in Russia and Europe.
A great example of utilizing microducts in urban metropolitan area is a large project in the city of Yekaterinburg in Russia to offer entire city of over million residents modern and reliable communication network with high performance ability. In the project Nestor Cables has supplied microcables and accessories to build backbone cable ducts in Yekaterinburg.
For years our products have been widely used in cabling projects in changing conditions (from warm summers to freezing winters) of Northern Finland. Based on these earlier projects we can assure that our products can withstand even extreme climate and conditions: application possibilities for microducts are endless. For example currently we take part in projects where microduct cabling solution is utilised in windmill farms to control windmills efficiently.
Past projects
Compared to traditional cables microduct cables are remarkably smaller in size: microduct cables can simultaneously maintain low weight and small diameter yet still have high fibre density.
Nestor Cables has the experience and technology to develop and manufacture microduct cables with excellent quality. Our operations have been certified to international ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environment), and OHSAS 18001 (Health and Safety) standards. We can supply cables with a variety of fibre types and counts: we present only a fraction of our growing product range in this brochure. Contact us or visit our website to learn more about our products. We can also modify and develop our products to fit your special requirements.

Microducts for microduct cabling solution
Ducts protect cables in ground during and after installation. Nestor Cables’ microduct solution includes a wide variety of NesDuct microducts to suit our customer’s varied needs. Our ducts are durable and able to protect fragile fibres inside ducts from moisture, traffic and other disturbances.
Our selection of microducts has all varieties of ducts needed to create a FTTH (Fibre to The Home) or FTTX network. To offer a comprehensive variety of microducts Nestor Cables partners with carefully chosen trusted duct manufacturers. Like ourselves our partners are ISO 9001 certified and their processes are regularly audited by outside parties.
Direct buried & thin wall ductsNestor Cables offers mainly ducts for two application methods: ducts for direct buried installation and ducts with thin walls for places with additional mechanical protection. Our direct buried installation ducts have impressive crush and impact resistance and therefore can be buried into the ground without other protection. However these are only the most popular installation methods: to learn more about our products for other methods, please contact us and we will assist you in finding the perfect solution.
Single microducts & microduct bundlesNestor Cables’ selection of microducts consists of NesDucts with a single microduct and NesDuct bundles. Both of these constructions include micro-ducts for direct buried and direct installation, and all ducts are available in several sizes. Micro ducts are made of high quality HDPE.
