Q1: What are the different pricing models available in r15?

A: CA ARCserve Backup r15 introduces below pricing models -

Component Pricing lets you buy only the technologies you need. We recommend component pricing for

customers having three or less servers.

Modules Pricing lets you buy CA ARCserve Backup technologies you need. We recommend Modules pricing

for customers having three to fifty servers and looking for only Backup product.

Solutions Pricing lets you buy CA ARCserve Backup, CA ARCserve D2D and CA ARCserve Replication and High

Availability (RHA) Technologies you need for high quality data protection in a single bundle. We recommend

solutions for three to fifty servers and looking for a complete protection solutions – Backup, Bare Metal

Recovery and Replication.

Managed Capacity Pricing (MCP) lets you protect high volumes of data with a flexible unlimited license. We

recommend MCP for customers having more than fifty servers.

Q2: We are comfortable with r12.5 pricing model, why did we change the pricing model and naming

conventions in r15?

A: The CA ARCserve r15 pricing model aligns with industry standard naming conventions which will help familiarize

customers with our pricing quicker than was earlier possible. Moreover, the CA ARCserve r15 pricing provides an

opportunity to offer a diverse set of quotes in a customer setup thereby providing a wider choice to our sales teams

during the course of new deals and upgrades.

Q3: What are the licensing changes from r12.5 to r15?

A: With the latest release, CA Technologies introduces the new CA ARCserve r15 Family of products. The products

that are a part of this are:

CA ARCserve Backup r15

CA ARCserve D2D r15

CA ARCserve Replication r15

CA ARCserve High Availability r15

Considering that these individually make up the CA ARCserve r15 Family of products, the changes to the licensing

from CA ARCserve Backup r12.5 to CA ARCserve r15 can be summarized as:


Introduction of Components Pricing Model (used to be known as ‘‘A la carte’’ in earlier releases). Mix and Match

between the Components and Solutions pricing models is possible in CA ARCserve Backup r15

New ‘Solutions’ Technology Packages: Provide bundled licensing for new and upgrade CA ARCserve r15 customers. All

solutions bundles include a version of CA ARCserve D2D. The Enterprise Application Solutions Bundle also

includes a copy of CA ARCserve Replication r15

‘Modules’ Packages that correspond to the r12.5 SIP (Simplified Pricing) Suites: These provide a migration path for

customers using previous version Suites, and a cost effective way to buy just backup.

Managed Capacity Pricing (MCP): The existing MCP model has been redefined to offer a 3 tiered MCP model. The new

model is priced according to protected data as opposed to raw data as was the practice earlier. There are now 3

Q4: In the new Enterprise Application Solution we have 2 licenses of Replication included. What is the

reason for not including Replication in the Advanced E-Mail Solution and Standard Database Solution? Is

it possible to get an Enterprise Application Solution without 2 licenses of Replication?

A: No. Customers should either purchase individual components or the ‘Enterprise Application Solutions bundle’ to

benefit from Replication Technology. This is because we expect that larger enterprise customers are more likely to

use our Replication Technology than smaller customers with only a few Servers to protect.

Q5: Will the CA ARCserve Replication r15 license included in the Enterprise Application Solutions

Bundle support Replication of Linux and UNIX Servers?

A: No. “CA ARCserve RHA Replication for File Servers Windows Enterprise OS without Assured Recovery” included as

part of enterprise application solutions cannot be used to replicate UNIX or Linux servers.

Q6: What are the Technologies not included in the CA ARCserve r15 Solutions bundles?

A: The Linux and Unix Data Movers are a new addition in CA ARCserve r15. They provide SAN Based backups of Linux

and Unix Servers sharing a Tape Library over the SAN with the Windows Primary Server. Linux and Unix Data Mover

licenses are NOT a part of any of the CA ARCserve r15 Solutions Bundles and are available only as separate

Component SKUs.


Q7: How do we license the SharePoint Agent in CA ARCserve r15?

A: With one SPS agent and one SPS agent license, user can protect SPS data (Web Front End, Database servers, App

servers) which are distributed across the multiple machines. If customers also want to protect other data like whole

systems of other boxes in the SPS farm, they should purchase additional Client agents (or other corresponding

DB/APP agents if necessary).

Q8: How do we license the Exchange Agent in an Exchange 2010 DAG (Database Availability Group)

environment?

A: In Exchange 2010 DAG - Number of Exchange licenses needed should be equal to number of active servers that are

being backed up in DAG.

Q9: SAN Option for Windows included theTape Library Option in earlier versions. Does this change in

r15?

A: This does not change. Windows Tape Library Option is included with the Windows SAN Option in CA ARCserve r15.

Q10: Is it allowed to have a mix of Component, Modules and Solutions pricing models in customer

environment?

A: Yes. Mix and match is possible in the CA ARCserve r15 product SKUs.

UNIX/LINUX DATA MOVER

Q11: When can a customer use the Linux/Unix Data Mover in his environment?

A: The Linux UNIX Data Mover provides faster backups for a customer that has a cross platform SAN environments

(Linux/Unix machines and Windows machines connected to SAN switch). Windows Primary Server, other Windows

Members and the Linux/Unix Data Mover can share a SAN Tape Library between each other. Data flow goes directly

through the SAN, keeping the normal LAN free, and typically quicker than the normal Network based backups.

Linux/Unix Data Movers can also backup to a Local FSD (Disk Device).

For Example: In the below diagram, only the Servers in Green will qualify to become Unix/Linux Data Movers. All the

Servers in Yellow have a locally attached Tape Library (or Tape Drive) and therefore do not qualify to become

Unix/Linux Data Movers.


Q12: How is the Linux / UNIX Data Mover Licensed?

A: Please note that “Unix Data Mover” and “Linux Data Mover” are not included in any of the Modules/Solutions.

Customers should purchase respective components separately if needed. However, Unix/Linux Data Movers are

included in MCP pricing model.

Q13: How will the Linux/Unix Data Movers effect customers with Cross SAN environments?

A: With the past versions of Windows CA ARCserve, we would have done backups of UNX/Linux data over the

network to Windows CA ARCserve Backup servers. This increases the backup window and also causes a lot of network

traffic to deal with which in turn increases the operational and administrative overhead of creating and maintaining

separate network paths for backups of UNIX/Linux servers.

Customers who use UNIX/Linux CA ARCserve product face the challenges of SAN issues, no central management,

Ingres database issues, Oracle RMAN usability issues etc. All these problems will go away with r15 release as users

will have the Windows CA ARCserve Backup Primary/Member server controlling the Unix\Linux data mover. CA

ARCserve Windows server will be a Primary server and would be managing the media, while UNIX/Linux Data Mover

only moves the data to the shared tape library.

Hence Unix/Linux customers will achieve central database, central catalog, central media management, central

licensing etc (all the advantages which r12 offered to CA ARCserve Windows customers).

A: Yes they are entitled to get free upgrades as listed in the below table. But please note that customers would be

getting 1 UNIX/Linux data mover for 1 Unix/Linux server. But the data movers can’t work alone and would need

Q17: What are the components included in SBS Bundle in CA ARCserve Backup r15 and what are the

changes from r12.5?

A: The CA ARCserve for SBS Standard Bundle includes the CA ARCserve Backup Server, Windows client agent,

Windows Open File Agent, Exchange Agent, SharePoint Agent and the Disaster Recovery Option.

Note: Disaster Recovery Option has been added to this bundle in r15

The CA ARCserve for SBS Premium Edition includes all the Components in the standard edition listed above and an

additional SQL Agent.

Q18: What are the components in the CA ARCserve Backup r15 for Windows EBS Bundle?

A: The CA ARCserve for EBS Standard includes 1 copy of CA ARCserve Backup Server, 2 copies of Windows client

agent, 3 copies of Windows Open File Agent, Exchange Agent, SharePoint Agent and the Disaster Recovery Option.

The EBS Premium Bundle includes everything in the Standard Bundle listed above and additionally a Windows Client

Agent, an Open File Agent and a SQL Agent.

Q19: If a customer is using the MS SBS Premium Version and wants to virtualize the second SQL Server,

will CA ARCserve support his configuration?

A: Yes, this is possible with CA ARCserve. The customer can install his second SQL Server which is part of his SBS

bundle on a Virtual Machine.

Q20: Can a customer entirely virtualize his SBS platforms?

A: Yes, we support installing the SBS bundle on Virtual Platforms as Microsoft has claimed support for it. For

customers looking to do disk based backups, this will work fine. But there are a few limitations to be noted with

regard to Tape backup depending on the Virtualization Technology being used:


VMware Virtualization: VMware ESX Server allows you to configure a SCSI adapter or a VM machine with SCSI

pass-through. This would allow the physical tape library to be visible to the Windows OS running inside the

VM. If the Windows device manager in the VM can be configured to see the Tape Library CA ARCserve can

definitely use it. But there are limitations when it comes to using a Tape Library (which has more than 1

drive). Though some customers are able to configure this, we do not claim official support for Multiple Drive

Tape Libraries.

Hyper-V Virtualization: Hyper-V currently does not support connecting a Tape drive to the Virtual Machine. We

therefore recommend that customers using Hyper-V attach the Tape Library to the Physical Hyper-V Host

Server. Please note that this is a limitation with Microsoft Hyper-V and not a limitation with CA ARCserve

Backup.

Q22: If a customer has Microsoft SQL and Microsoft Exchange on the same Server (not Windows Small

Business Server/Windows Enterprise Business Server) and is interested in Solutions/Modules, does he

need to purchase two Solutions/Modules for that server?

A: With the ‘mix and match’ flexibility provided between the ‘Solutions’ , ‘Modules’ and ‘Component’ pricing in

ARCserve r15 we provide the customer multiple options to choose from. He can buy any one of the

Solutions/Modules bundles and purchase the additional licenses that are required in Component pricing. He can also

buy more than one Solution/Module bundle for the server based on estimates of his future licensing needs.

Q23: A customer wants to move from Exchange Email Server to Lotus Domino Email Server. Does the

customer need to buy new licenses for Lotus Domino?

A: Customers must buy a new Windows Agent for Lotus Domino license if using the Component model. No need to

purchase any new agents if in Solutions/Modules pricing model or in Managed Capacity Pricing (MCP). ‘Advanced

Email Server Solutions’ and ‘Advanced Email Server Module’ bundle includes both MS Exchange and Lotus Domino

agent – customers can pick and choose what they want to use. MCP is based on storage capacity and is not impacted

by the type of applications, operating system or devices in use.

Q24: Are “CA ARCserve Backup for UNIX Agent for Oracle” and “CA ARCserve Backup for Linux Agent for

Oracle” included in the CA ARCserve Backup r15 Standard Database Solution(or Module)?

A: Yes, CA ARCserve Backup r15 for UNIX Agent for Oracle and CA ARCserve Backup r15 for Linux Agent for Oracle are

now part of the Standard Database Server Solution (or Module). Customers can continue to do network backup of


oracle server running on Unix/Linux machines using advanced database solution or module. To get the local

backup/SAN based backup technology, customers should purchase additional Unix/Linux Data Mover component.

Q25: Is “CA ARCserve Backup Global Dashboard” included in any of the Modules or Solutions?

A: No, “CA ARCserve Backup r15 for Windows Global Dashboard” is not included in any of the Modules. It is included

only in “CA ARCserve r15 Enterprise Application Solutions”.

Q26: Can the CA ARCserve D2D licenses and the CA ARCserve Replication licenses which are part of the

respective Solutions Bundles be used on a Server other than the one on which the CA ARCserve Backup

licenses are used?

A: Yes, we allow the individual product licenses of CA ARCserve Backup, CA ARCserve D2D (and CA ARCserve

Replication in case of Enterprise Applications Solutions Bundle) to be used on different Servers.

But the individual components of each product in the Solutions bundle have to be used on a single machine

Q28: Customer currently has a la carte pricing, and would like to renew the license in Component

pricing model. Can he do that?

A: Yes. Customers can purchase the maintenance renewal SKUs for his a la carte licenses and stay with the

Component Pricing model (‘a la carte’ pricing model is now called ‘Component’ Pricing).

Q29: Can a customer with expired “a la carte” maintenance get a discount on upgrades?

A: Yes. Though Customers with CA ARCserve Backup r11.x, r12 and r12.5 with expired maintenance contracts are not

entitled for FOC Upgrades, they are allowed to purchase discounted r15 component upgrade SKUs.


Below are the upgrade paths for customers with expired maintenance:

Upgrade to Solutions: Customers with expired maintenance under a la carte pricing model cannot purchase solutions

upgrade SKUs directly. They are allowed to purchase discounted r15 component upgrade SKUs. If they need

Solutions, customers will have to first purchase respective r15 components upgrade SKUs and then purchase “a la

carte to Solutions (in maintenance)” upgrade SKUs.

Upgrade to Modules: Customers with expired maintenance cannot upgrade to r15 modules. They are allowed to

purchase discounted r15 component upgrade SKUs. If they need Solutions, customers will have to first purchase

respective discounted r15 components upgrade SKUs and then purchase “a la carte to Solutions (in

maintenance)” upgrade SKUs.

Additional Capacity: Customers with expired maintenance can always purchase NEW r15 components or Modules or

Solutions for their new servers.

Q30: Can a customer using “Suites” with expired maintenance get a discount on upgrades?

A: Yes. Customers using CA ARCserve Backup r12 and r12.5 Suites with expired maintenance contracts are not

entitled for FOC Upgrades, but they can purchase discounted Module upgrade SKUs. Please note that customers can

also purchase “SIP to r15 solutions (out of maintenance)” upgrade SKUs and move to Solutions pricing model.

Customers with expired maintenance looking to add additional functionality can always purchase NEW r15

components or solutions for their new servers. Please note that Modules are not available as new purchase SKUs.

Q31: Can customers in r11.x release take advantage of this upgrade discount program?

A: Yes, we now allow customers with expired maintenance contracts in r11.x, r12 and r12.5 to take advantage of this

upgrade program and buy discounted upgrade SKUs.

Q32: Can customers in older releases such as Enterprise Backup and v9 get discounts on upgrades?

A: No, customers in releases older than r11 have to buy new Product SKUs.

Q33: Is there an upgrade or migration path to r15 ‘Solutions’ for customers with previous

XOsoft/Wansync product to the new CA ARCserve family r15?

A: We don't have an upgrade/migration path from XOsoft/Wansync to CA ARCserve r15 solutions. Customers should

upgrade to CA ARCserve r15 Replication and High Availability. If they need r15 solutions, we should sell "New"

solutions SKUs.


Q34: Do we get 1 copy of r15 Windows CA ARCserve server license as part of FOC upgrades from r11.x

UNIX/Linux Servers to r15 CA ARCserve Windows Product?

A: No. Customers would have to purchase CA ARCserve Windows server license separately.

Q35: My customer is running Exchange server on Windows Virtual Machine. Can I propose advanced

email solutions or should I also propose guest based VM agent bundle along with advanced email

solutions.

A: Please propose ONLY advanced email solutions. The client agent and Open File Agent licenses in the solutions

bundle can be used to backup the virtual machine file system.

Q36: Can customers virtualizing their current Physical environment use their Physical Client Agent and

Open File Agent for Physical Machines Licenses and on their Virtual Machines?

A: Yes, customers can use their Physical Client Agent and Open File Agent Licenses on their Virtual Machines.

Q37: What are the changes in “Guest Based Virtual Machines Bundle” introduced in CA ARCserve r15

from the “File Server Suite for Virtual Machines” in r12.5?

A: CA ARCserve Backup r15 ‘Guest Based Virtual Machines Agent Bundle’ includes the same components as the r12.5

‘File Server Suite for Virtual Machines’.

It includes 1 copy of ‘Agent for Virtual Machines’ and 1 copy of ‘Open File Agent for Virtual Machines’.

It is just a name change from “File Server Suite for Virtual Machines” to “Guest Based Virtual Machines Bundle”

Q38: Can customers migrate their physical “CA CA ARCserve Backup r15 Client Agent for Windows” and

“CA ARCserve Backup r15 Agent for Open Files on Windows” to virtual licenses - “CA ARCserve Backup

r15 Guest Based Virtual Machines Agent Bundle”?

A: No. We don’t support migration from physical licenses to Virtual licenses.

Q39: Are “Guest Based Virtual Machine Bundle” license components included in all the CA ARCserve r15

Modules and Solutions Bundles?

A: No, “Guest Based Virtual Machine Bundle” license components are not included in r15 Modules and Solutions. But

please note that customers can backup the virtual machines using the Client Agent for Windows (32AW) and Agent

for Open Files (32OF) licenses included in all the Modules/Solutions.


Q40: Can customers backup virtual machines using r15 Modules and Solutions?

A: Yes. Customers can backup both physical and virtual machines using the Client Agent for Windows (32AW) and

Agent for Open Files (32OF) licenses included in all the Modules/Solutions.

Q41: Can customers perform Hypervisor backups (VCB/VDDK/Hyper-V) using r15 Modules and

Solutions?

A: Yes. Customers can perform all types of VM backups (VCB/VDDK/Hyper-V) using Client Agent for Windows (32AW)

and Agent for Open Files (32OF) licenses included in all the Modules/Solutions.

Q42: My customer purchased r15 Modules and he sees ZERO license count for VM agent licenses. How

can he backup Virtual Machines using modules and solutions? Or should he purchase “CA ARCserve

Backup r15 Guest Based Virtual Machines Agent Bundle” or CA ARCserve Backup Per host licenses?

A: R15 Solutions and Modules do not include Agent for Virtual Machines or Open Files Agent for Virtual Machines

license component codes. Customers can perform all kinds of virtual machines backup (Network / Hyper-V / VCB /

VDDK) using Windows client agent and Open Files Agent licenses. Customers don’t have to purchase any additional

Virtual Machines licenses if they already have r12.5 suites/r15 Modules/r15 Solutions licenses to protect Virtual

Machines.

Q43: In a VMware environment, will customers need to purchase the “Guest based Virtual Machines

Bundle” for the Proxy server or machine running VDDK, if CA ARCserve Backup Server is on Proxy

server or the machine with VDDK itself?

A: If a customer is using Solutions or Modules license on the proxy server, then they won’t have to purchase the “Guest Based Virtual Machines Bundle” as the required technology is included in the Solutions and Modules bundles. A: No, customers can’t use a virtual machine agent to perform backup/restore of a physical machine. But in case of VCB proxy and Hyper-V host machine, customers can use “Agent for Virtual Machine” license to backup and restore data on VCB Proxy/Hyper-V Host machines (which are physical machines).

Note1: The Proxy (VCB/VDDK) and the CA ARCserve backup server are on the same machine in this example. Typically this is a CA ARCserve Member Server (“Media server”) in large environments, or a CA ARCserve Stand-Alone in smaller networks. If the Proxy machine with VDDK/VCB installed has no backup server locally installed, and the Backup server is an additional host that receives the data via the network, then the licensing count (table) is the same. inside the Virtual machines. What that means is if Hyper-V option license is present, D2D will use Hyper-V VSS writer

to protect VMs. If Virtual Machine Guest Additions are installed in VM Hyper-V writer will also ensure that

applications inside VM are made consistent during backup using VSS writer in VM. However we do not provide special

restore view for Hyper-V. User still has to restore files manually and register the VM back. Also applications protected

inside VM cannot be directly restored. User has to restore entire VM. If direct application restore is needed user

should install D2D on the guest VM, license D2D Advanced Edition (contains SQL/Exchange/Hyper-V Options) and

initiate a separate backup of the guest VM.

single backup, customers can back all the VMs and host machine.

c. Can perform application consistent snapshots of VMs

However, the disadvantages with this approach is -

a. Can’t protect selected volumes inside the VMs

b. Can’t perform file/folder/volume level restores of VM

c. Can’t perform database level restores of Exchange & SQL running inside the VMs

d. Can’t perform Bare Metal Recovery of individual VMs

Q96. What are the different tiers available in r15 Managed Capacity pricing model?

A: CA ARCserve Managed Capacity pricing model has been a strong platform for Enterprise customers having large

and changing IT infrastructures as well as increasing amounts of data to protect and manage. In r12.5 we had only 1

tier offering unlimited licenses of CA ARCserve Backup and XOsoft licenses.

CA ARCserve r15 now offers 4 different Managed Capacity pricing Programs as below:

1. R15 CA ARCserve Backup Only provides the customer with unlimited access to all bases, options and

agents of CA ARCserve Backup R15. This offering is licensed based on “Protected Storage”.

2. R15 CA ARCserve Replication and High Availability Only provides the customer with unlimited

access to all bases, options and agent of CA ARCserve Replication and High Availability.

3. R15 CA ARCserve Backup and R15 ARCserve Replication and High Availability Only provides the

customer with access to all bases, options and agents for CA ARCserve Backup and CA ARCserve

Replication and High Availability.

4. R15 CA ARCserve All-Inclusive provides the customer with unlimited bases, options and agents of CA

ARCserve Backup, CA ARCserve Replication and High Availability and CA ARCserve D2D.

Q97: What type of data is Managed Capacity licensed against?

A: A: Previously MCP was licensed based on “RAW” storage, which meant customers paid for protecting storage that

they really didn’t protect. If they had a 50TB disk array, but only 10TB used, we charged them for the entire 50TB.

A significant change from previous MCP offerings is that R15 is now based on “Protected Storage”. Protected

Storage is easily defined as the total amount of data protected by products included in the Managed Capacity

program the customer is licensed for.


Q98: Now that we are charging customers based on “protected storage”, how should we do the true-ups?

A: Every year, the customer is required to provide us with reports showing full amounts of data being protected by all

licensed products of their Managed Capacity offering. This amount will be used to determine their current licensing

level.

Q99: Why did we change pricing model from stacking model to linear?

A: In previous versions, we used to have stacking model. For example, customer having 45 TB would have to purchase

several SKUs from the 5-10TB range, then more from the 11-16TB range, then more from the 16-20TB range and so

on, up to their respective levels.

The new R15 MCP is based on a straight TB range model, making it easier for customers as well as Sales to

understand. Customers can now simply purchase a quantity of SKUs from the range they are in. So a customer with

45TB would purchase a quantity of 45 SKUs from the 40-50TB range.

Q100: What is the minimum buy-in to get into Managed Capacity Pricing model?

A: The minimum amount for each of the Managed Capacity Programs is as follows:

Backup Only – 2TB

RHA only – 26 Servers

Backup + RHA – 2 TB

All-Inclusive – 2TB

Q101: My customer is in r12.5 Managed Capacity Model and under maintenance, which MCP offering is

he entitled to get free of charge?

A: Existing MCP customers (Pre-R15) with Maintenance are entitled to a Free-of-Charge (FOC) upgrade to the R15

equivalent of their current MCP licensing.

If they have Backup only, they are entitled to FOC upgrade to R15 Backup only.

If they have Backup + XOsoft, they are entitled to FOC upgrade to R15 Backup + RHA MCP.

They are always able to (we encourage) upgrading to the All-Inclusive offering.

Q102: My customer is in r12.5 Managed Capacity Model and under maintenance. What should he

purchase to get unlimited D2D as well along with Backup and RHA?

A: For customers that are under maintenance and would like to move to another MCP program, a renewal to that

program is acceptable. In the above example, the customer could renew into All-Inclusive MCP. This process will

require some consideration for the extent of their existing maintenance.
