Faced with a challenge, the team at Christopher Ward will usually jump at the task – and reinventing the iconic best-selling Trident Mark I was never going to be easy

When the Mark I was originally launched back in 2009, the storm of approval was as strong as the tsunamis Poseidon whipped up by stirring his three-pronged spear in the oceans of Greek mythology. The Trident Mark I represented a new value benchmark for premium quality watches and established the then fledgling CW brand as a force to be reckoned with.

With the launch of Trident Mark II came the opportunity to redefine the best-selling Trident Collection. We decided a mere face-lift for our much-loved design wasn’t sufficient and instead opted for a painstakingly comprehensive re-engineering, with almost every component of this most iconic of diving timepieces upgraded.

The new Tridents are available in a myriad of colour, price and strap options, with the changes we’ve wrought redefining not only the watches themselves, but the choice available to the discerning collector.

We’re incredibly proud that our new Trident watches, the 43mm and 38mm Pro 600s, 300s, GMTs and of course the flagship COSC, featuring our own in-house Calibre SH21, pay due homage to both their predecessors and some of the most successful watches in history, in a way that is distinctively Christopher Ward.

We may have kept the overall look of the original but nearly everything else has been revamped…

4 MOVEMENTS

Creating more choice within the range, four movements are utilised in the new Trident Collection.

ETA 2824-2 / Sellita 200-1: C60 Trident Pro 600 (43 and 38mm)

Ronda 515 Quartz: C60 Trident 300 (43 and 38mm)

ETA 2893: C60 Trident GMT 600 (43 and 38mm)

Calibre SH21: C60 Trident COSC 600

RE-ENGINEERED CASE

One of the world’s best case manufacturers has helped us rework every aspect of the new case to deliver:

• Sharper architectural lines

• Superior finishes

• Greater water resistance (600metres in the mechanical versions)

• A remarkable 3 dimensional deep-stamped back-plate

CERAMIC (Zr02) UNI-DIRECTIONAL BEZEL

Not only is Zirconia ceramic (Zr02) hard and fracture-tough owing to its tetragonal, sub-micron chemical make-up, it’s also incredibly glossy and rich to view.

ENHANCED LUMINOSITY

At 600m down, there is very little visibility – so we’ve used all-new SuperLuminova® SLN-T-C1 to fill deep indexes, hands and the 12 o’clock point on the bezel.

Choice_redefined

Some entire businesses have been set up on less choice than the current Trident offering – but for Christopher Ward, extensive choice is merely what our customers deserve.

The Trident Collection delivers flexibility, affordability and style, all with a keen eye on our company aim – that of putting premium quality timepieces within the reach of everyone.

With 43mm and 38mm case sizes available, and over 200 (and counting!) combinations of movement, strap style and case, bezel and dial colours available, there is a Trident to fit most wrists, pockets and styles, putting the choice in the hands of the customer to find their perfect Trident.

C60 TRIDENT GMT 600

A dual-time automatic watch for world-travellers who want a watch that has the quality to match its sporting good looks is the delivered promise of the GMT version of our best-selling Trident series.

The magnificently re-engineered, 316L marine-grade stainless steel case now incorporates a zirconia (ZrO2) ceramic uni-directional bezel for fracture toughness and incredible scratch resistance. Moreover, the case has been designed to remain watertight at up to depths of 600 metres (2000 ft) – twice that of its predecessor.

A new crown, indices and enhanced luminosity add to the balance and usability and the new back-plate with its deep-stamped Trident motif adds even more authority to this quintessential GMT.

With the supremely accurate and robust ETA 2893-2 automatic movement beating at its core, the C60 Trident GMT 600 can reasonably lay claim to being one of the best GMT’s you will find anywhere and of a quality that if you were paying three times the price you wouldn’t feel short changed.

DISPLAY ELEMENTS CONTROL BUTTONS

Your C60 Trident GMT 600 has a maximum power reserve of 42 hours when fully wound. To re-power the watch after a period of non-use, simply wind the crown for approximately 20 revolutions. Normal wearing will very quickly allow the rotor to start re-powering the watch over time after putting it on your wrist.

HOW TO OPERATE YOUR TRIDENT GMT 600

SETTING THE TIME/DATE

• First unscrew the crown anti-clockwise from the case to position 1 for winding in power. Wind in a clockwise direction to re-power the watch.

• Pull gently into position 2 . For rapid date correction, turn in an anti-clockwise direction.

• Pull gently into position 3 . This position is used for handsetting (anti-clockwise to advance), and stopping of the second hand. For precise time setting it is recommended to pass beyond the desired minute and to set the hand backwards.

PLEASE NOTE: Date correction should not be carried out between 20.00 hr and 02.00 hr as the watch gearing will already be aligning itself to change the date. The crown should always be pushed in after adjustment, and it is best to do so from position 3 to avoid advancing beyond the desired date.

You must always ensure the crown is fully tightened before any use in water.

GMT EXPLAINED

The GMT/24hr hand with its triangular point allows you to read the time back home at a glance on the 24-hour scale.

People travelling East, for example from London to Hong Kong, should pull the crown to position 3 and move the hour hand forwards (in this case by 8 hours). The table (shown below) can be used to calculate any time difference.

People travelling West, for example from London to New York, should pull the crown out to position 3 and move the hour hand backwards (in this case by 5 hours). The table (shown right) can be used to calculate any time difference.

In both cases, the GMT/24hr hand allows travellers to read the time back home – London, in our example – at a glance, using the 24-hour scale on the dial. The second time zone – in this case Hong Kong or New York – is read off the dial in the usual way. Each time the hour hand crosses midnight, the date jumps forwards or backwards, depending on whether the hour hand is moved forwards or backwards.

15

• Pull gently into position 2 . Turn the crown clockwise and rotate the hand until you have reached the desired time indication. The GMT hand moves in one-hour increments.

• To reset GMT to your local time. Pull the crown into position 3 . Turn anti-clockwise past midnight and stop at 3:00a.m. Then push the crown into position 2 . Rotate the GMT hand until it is also at 3:00a.m. then set the date.

• Pull the crown out to position 3 . and set the time and the GMT hand will be in sync with local time.

PLEASE NOTE: Date correction should not be carried out between 20.00 hr and 02.00 hrs as the watch gearing will already be aligning itself to change the date. The crown should always be pushed in after adjustment, and it is best to do so from position 3 to avoid advancing beyond the desired date.

WATER RESISTANCE

Although your watch has been through vigorous static pressure testing, it is worth remembering that there are many variables that can affect the water resistance of your watch.

For instance, arm movements during swimming and the sudden impact of diving and water sports will drastically increase the pressure the watch is under. Wearing your watch in the bath, shower, or sauna can also have an effect as a rapid increase in temperature can cause seals to expand and in extreme cases, malfunction or create condensation.

For these reasons, the water resistance rating of your watch (as shown) should only ever be considered a guideline and we strongly recommend they are always adhered to.

1 BAR (10 METRES)Safe to wear your watch while washing your hands with tap water.

3 BAR (30 METRES)Washing your car and/or general hose pipe usage.

5 BAR (50 METRES)Water resistant to most household shower units.

10 BAR (100 METRES)Safe to use while snorkelling in open water.

30 BAR (300 METRES)Ideal for experienced divers and those practising scuba-diving.

60 BAR (600 METRES)Professional divers, experiencing prolonged exposure underwater.

100 BAR (1000 METRES)Professional deep sea diving.

For many, the philosophy behind the brand, of trying to put luxury watches within the reach of everyone, is as attractive as the watches themselves, as is the very open approach of the business which means that Chris and the team spend a lot of time communicating personally with our customers – many of whom have become friends.

As the owner of a Christopher Ward watch, if ever you need to get hold of us we are at your service. We have listed some useful contact details on the back cover.

There is also always something new going on at our website at www.christopherward.co.uk and, if you haven’t already discovered the independent forum dedicated to our brand at www.christopherwardforum.com we would recommend a visit. Informative and fun, it’s a great place to hear the unexpurgated view of Christopher Ward of London!
