"After more than 10 years supplying professional audio and audio-video transmission and recording equipment for Telecommunications, Broadcasting, Voice-overs, Studios and Event Companies we are now introducing a completely new product series for audio transmission."
"In early 2000 MAYAH introduced the CENTAURI range of hardware audio codecs, based on the successful SendIt software audio codecs from 1997. Now, with more than 6000 devices in use, it is one of the worlds leading audio codecs. The CENTAURI II from 2005 added to this increased flexibility & functional power and is now considered the most compatible codec for ISDN and the most powerful and complete codec for IP. Whether used individually or as part of a complex system, applications such as IP Gateway networking and IP with ISDN Backup networks for 24/7/365 live solutions are available as standard."
"The MAYAH team stands for technological innovation combined with profound industry expertise; providing customers with powerful tools for day-to-day audio and video transmission requirements."
"Our unprecedented support for all G.7xx, J.xx and MPEG algorithms as well as proprietary algorithms such as ADPCM4SB and apt-X / Eapt-X means we currently support more than 15 audio coding formats, the newest being MPEG 4 AAC ELD, an optimum combination of low delay and bitrate efficiency."
"Now we would like to introduce you to our newest generation of audio codecs, the C11 series. Uniquely powerful and dedicated to your Telco and Broadcast requirements, they are extremely compact (permitting greater codec densities) and environmentally friendly with very low power consumption and passive cooling – a cutting edge product for professional 24/7/365 service."

Redundancy Concepts for IP and Power with C11 productsGo for 24/7/365 in Telco applications
C11 for Telcos
Audio Formats
Telcos need to transmit in transparent quality. Therefore C11 codecs/decoders support AES/EBU transparent, linear as well as apt-X/Eapt-X. For economic transmissions also MPEG 4 HE AACv2 and for compatibility MPEG 1/2 Layer 2 and 3 are supported.
Space reduction
The C11 model is the most efficiently packaged audio codec device in the world. The combination of just ½ 19” / 1RU rackmount with the variety of functions depending on the used model is unique and offers Telcos the most efficient packing for installations.
Power reduction
All C11 models have very low power consumption. In view to the environmental requirments as well as to the resulting cost, an average power consumption of 8 W, 12 V per stereo channel without the need of cooling without the need for cooling fans fans is another unique feature of the C11 series.
Flexible devices to match broadcasters needs
Depending on the application the Telco operator may need an IP, an ASI or an IP/ASI solution which provides the necessary standards in terms of interfaces and formats. Although many broadcasters may require transparent AES/EBU or Layer 2 transmission formats, the C11 devices fulfill also almost all other requirements, e.g. the full MPEG 4 AAC ELD and HE range including even proprietary formats, such as apt-X/Eapt-X.
24/7/365 operation with redundant power supply concept
A Telco cannot afford any loss of signal by network, power or unit failure. Therefore it is necessary to offer the matching redundancy concepts:
two identical configured C11 for 1:1 DDredundancy
power redundancy with external DDredundant PSU unit for maximum of 8 C11 units
n+1 redundancy concept in connection DDwith Network Management System NetMon
NetMon SNMP Management
With direct system status monitoring and network overview, NetMon from Euromedia is a complete NMS solution for Broadcast, Broadband and Telco applications. It is a platform independent JAVA SE 6 application with JDBC data base access. The XML driver integration and scripting allows easy integration of additional devices.
Support Kits
The C11 audio codec devices can be installed in different situations matching different local requirements:

Optimum solution for the IP/ISDN migration process – N/ACIP and FlashCast for economic integration.
C11 for Broadcasters
Radio and TV Stations focus on specific functions, interfaces and formats as well as stability and robustness when dealing with live transmissions. Compatibility between different manufacturers devices, line disposition management and intuitive operation are the main requirements when selecting audio codecs.
Migration from ISDN/E1 to IP
It is known that worldwide, announcements by Telcos have indicated the end of synchronous network offers such as E1 and ISDN. Although they might still be on offer, the reality is that the backbones transporting E1 and ISDN already, partly use IP packets. The move towards IP is an important issue and broadcasters need appropriate solutions. The efforts of the EBU N/ACIP group have resulted in an approved document describing the necessary standards to be implemented for compatibility between different vendors. As one of the founding members of the audio-via-IP Experts Group, MAYAH has implemented the EBU N/ACIP from the beginning in its devices and moved even further by supporting RFCs and standards that go far beyond this. This extended N/ACIP implementation allows even further applications.
Broadcasters are considered to need:
Flexible devices to match the broadcast-DDers needs
24/7/365 operationDD
Compatibility via ISDN to stationary and DDportable solutions
Compatibility via IP following EBU N/DDACIP to stationary and portable solutions
Redundant power supply conceptDD
As less space consuming as possible for DDOB-Vans and remote vans
Disposition Software for line manage-DDment
Support kits or mechanical and electri-DDcal installation
Email and telephone support DD
The C11 models are tailored to fulfill broadcasters requirements one by one. Compatibility is a given, due to FlashCast via ISDN and full support of the N/ACIP standard. Integration into existing management systems is possible due to the co-operation with many 3rd party software solutions.
Depending on the application, the broadcast operator may need an IP, an IP/ISDN or now more often a Dual IP solution, all of which are provided by the models of the C11 series. For reasons of scalability, ASI, 3G, POTS and Recording are available in different C11 models.
Line Disposition Software MDC.net
MDC.net Codec and Router Management System V3 supports all types of ISDN and IP codec connections. Settings such as "transport", "packet-size" & "quality-of-service" have been implemented and also the ability to 'dial' IP addresses with port numbers or SIP addresses. The IP connections are visualized in the same way as ISDN connections and the software supports CENTAURI and C11 audio codec models.

MAYAH’s 10 year IP know how and EBU N/ACIP support means huge compatibilty.CENTAURI FlashCast based C11 even talks to ISDN codecs.
The variety of Audio Coding Formats results in a broader field ofapplications for Telcos and Broadcasters
C11 Compatibility C11 Quality
When considering the integration of new audio codecs it is important that they are compatible via the supported network interfaces and audio formats as well as integratable from the network management point of view. In the last decade MAYAH has been recognized as a technology leader when it comes to compatibility; as documented with the famous FlashCast feature for connecting to ISDN codecs from 3rd parties as well as with the support of EBU N/ACIP and beyond, IP features and standards.
MAYAH not only supports the Telco and Broadcast Backbone applications, meaning hardware-to-hardware, codec-to-codec connections, but can be received also by STBs and software media players, such as VLC, Quicktime, Windows Media Player and others.
Many different aspects are considered within the N/ACIP standard to ensure a degree of interoperability between IP audio codecs of different vendors
Audio coding: including coding algorithm, DDbitrate, delay and error resilience
Transport protocols: including DDencapsulation of audio frames, loss recovery mechanisms and delay
Signaling: including session control, DDconnection setup and codec negotiation
Network profiles: including the definition DDof a number of of user defined profiles for different types of managed IP networks and for public Internet connections
The interoperability standard of N/ACIP, Audio Contribution
Over IP, see also www.ebu-acip.org, which is based on open IETF standards such as RTP and SIP is fully supported by the C11 model range.
Audio-via-IP Experts Group
At the end of 2006, MAYAH Communications (Germany) and AETA Audio Systems (France) founded the international Audio-via-IP Experts Group to coordinate the joint technical efforts in order to achieve a true interoperability of audio codec products of different manufacturers.
The partners have joined this Experts Group and featured Audio-via-IP compatibility yet before the EBU working group N/ACIP issued the first recommendation paper on professional Audio-via-IP in October 2007.
There is a logo program which allows to be identified as a supporter of this Audio-via-IP Experts Group and to be recognized as compatible with other partners of this group.
The motivation is to offer a friendly operational environment for users and to minimize the threshold of going "Audio-via-IP" for any broadcaster or any codec user of the world.
Current active members of the Audio-via-IP Experts Group are:
MAYAH Communications (DE)DD
AETA Audio Systems (FR)DD
Orban crl (US)DD
Tieline Technology (AU)DD
Field proven: FlashCast
A very popular feature, already used to great effect in the CENTAURI: the MAYAH developed FlashCast Techno logy.
Calling or dialed codecs are automatically recognized by analysis of the coding format and defined. It is unimportant whether the other codec is a CDQPRIMA, RoadRunner, Zephyr, OptiCodec or MusicTaxi. As long as the C11 recognizes the proprietary algorithm
and inverse multiplexing of the other audio codec, it can automatically receive a mono or stereo signal, even with multiple B channels.
Impressive is also the extremely short synchronization time. A C11 can often synchronize quicker than two identical codecs can with each other.
Where previously several codecs were needed, today one C11 can do the same job.
MAYAH is known to support a wide range of audio codec formats in its realtime broadcasting devices. Besides the well known formats, such as G.711, G.722, Layer 2 & 3, we also look at all standards of interest. Two main trends are considered: In corporate networks the bit rate requirements result in linear audio and transparent AES/EBU transmission (3,072 Mbit/s) while in mobile environments the bit rates are very low in order to guarantee a live transmission (HE AACv2 and ELD with 24/32 kbps). C11 models support this full range as well as audio formats which are in-between, such as Layer 2, 3, Eapt-X and others.
AAC
As part of MPEG 2 and 4, it provides transparent audio quality starting at a bit rate of 128 kbps stereo.
HE AACv2
As a further development of AAC by adding Spectral Band Replication, the so called SBR technology, much lower bit rates are achieved. In a range of 32 – 64 kbps stereo very efficient HE AAC coding allows very high quality for audio transmission and storage. "v2" adds the additional parametric stereo coding for bit rates even lower at 16 – 32 kbps stereo.
AAC ELD
This is simply a combination of AAC LD and HE AAC. For broadcasters a good combination because the focus is low delay while maintaining the efficient coding. Encode/decode delay of less than 50 ms allows the use of bit rates in the range of AAC HEv2 plus, appr. 30 %. e.g:
AAC ELD @ 32 kb/s = HE AAC @ 24 kb/sDD
AAC ELD @ 48 kb/s > HE AAC @ 32 kb/sDD
Linear Audio and AES/EBU transparent
The increasing availability of higher bandwidth means the use of linear audio and "AES/EBU Transparent" is a realistic alternative. The bit rate of AES/EBU signals is 3,072 Mbit/s.
Interoperability of MAYAH Codecs
The number of MAYAH audio codec products has grown to a mature range of solutions for various applications.
The interoperability includes audio coding formats for mono, stereo and multichannel, data transmission, e.g. for RDS, as well as contact closure Information.
The differences between the products enhance their suitability for specific applications without limiting interoperability. Except for certain small differences in terms of network interface support, protocols,
audio algorithms, etc., there is a rich set of common formats and functions which support combinations such as:

The C1190/91 models have been designed to answer the need for more redundancy and functionality on the IP side. They are bi-directional, support the full range of audio coding formats and offer two Ethernet interfaces to either simultaneously stream audio identical on both interfaces or to split control and audio to two different interfaces.
In addition the 90/91 devices support extended slots on the rear panel for optional available plug-in cards, such as POTS, UMTS/3G or storage cards for USB or SD.
The C1130/31/35 models have been designed as the entry category to the C11 audio codec world. They are powerfull, fully scalable devices with the most modern Audio-via-IP architecture and audio coding formats but provide an efficient economic solution for broadcasters and telcos. RTP and SIP, as the basic technology for corporate and public networks, offer the flexibility needed.
While the C1130/31 are bi-directional, the C1135 is designed as a higher volume product for reception-only sites, e.g. transmitters.

The C1150/51/55 models are part of the C11 Advanced Codec series. Based on the C1130 they however offer additional storage interfaces and extension slots for POTS, UMTS/3G and other expansion cards. These capabilities make them the ideal companions for Sporty and Flashman II in a studio environment and with additional storage they are perfectly equipped for many new, hardware codec uses, e.g. in-codec logging or regional advertising insertion and many other possible uses.
While the C1150/51 are bi-directional, the C1155 is designed as a higher volume product for reception-only sites, e.g. for use with transmitters.
The C1140/41 models are designed specifically for ISDN and IP. As an ISDN codec with IP Control for management or as a codec for both ISDN and IP. The ISDN stack is based on MAYAH's long experience in this field, with many d-channel protocols and international connectivity. IP support is the same as other C11 models. They can connect to portable devices such as Sporty and Flashman II as well as other, third party vendors and can talk to RTP and SIP; the basic technology for corporate and public networks.
The C1140 and the C1141 are bi-directional codecs, able to encode and decode simultaneously.
Application 1 – Sportys deliver high quality audio via ISDN to C1140/C1141 devices
Application – Studio-Transmitter-Link via IP with audio storage in the decoder devices for logging and/or playback Application 2 – Flashman IIs deliver live audio via
IP into the studio or transmitter to C1140/41 devices

Next Generation Portable Recorder Codec
Now, after 5 years unparalleled success, MAYAH introduces its’ 2nd generation Portable Recorder Codec, the Flashman II. The original Flashman was a pure, high quality digital recorder; Flashman II adds the ability to simultaneously record while transmitting the audio back to the studio.
Flashman II records to SD Cards & USB sticks, supports most modern networks and interfaces – WLAN, UMTS/3G and Ethernet – and provides a wide range of the most modern coding algorithms, including two new, state-of-the-art audio formats, MPEG 4 HEv2 and MPEG 4 AAC ELD; for “High Quality” and “Low Latency” respectively.
The exciting new ability to Record locally, while feeding Live gives reporters total control over their material and the ability to edit it further after transmission, for subsequent re-use.
And thanks to MAYAH’s still unique FlashCast technology, Flashman II is able to automatically recognize, and connect worldwide to almost any audio codec, in any format. Ideal for on-location situations where the destination codec is not known.
With Flashman II, MAYAH has built a portable studio for the palm of your hand!
Sporty is about to revolutionize reporting. Connect via LAN, WLAN, UMTS/3G, ISDN or PSTN using the most powerful audio coding formats available.
With AAC HE & AAC ELD, Flashman II offers todays most efficient codingformats for any IP transmission and recording
SportyFLASHMAN II
SPORTY – Portable Reporter Codec
