Knorr-Bremse SfN Core Program
Core Program
The core program specifies how:
• Core accounts work
• Core relevant material is set up
• Core banking, core return and month-end processing works.
Within the Knorr-Bremse core program, core relevant parts are surcharged at the time of sale with a core value - usually as a separate line on the invoice - and corresponding old units need to be returned to Knorr-Bremse within a period of 12 months from the end of the invoicing month. Payment of the core is subject to the same terms of payment as any other invoice.
If returned during this time, the core value will be credited to the customer if eligible - meaning the customer has made a purchase against the return within the same core group. In case of over-return, the value will remain in the core bank for a maximum period of 24 months until the customer makes another purchase within the same core group.
The concerned part numbers can mainly be found in the Knorr-Bremse Aftermarket Price List, along with the current values. The sales price of the Knorr-Bremse products with core surcharge is based on the assumption that a core unit will be returned to Knorr-Bremse SfN for each unit purchased.
There are additional part numbers that are not contained in the Knorr-Bremse Aftermarket Price List but that can also
Knorr-Bremse has increased its
efforts to collect old units / core
back from the market!
Introduction
During recent years Knorr-Bremse has increased its efforts to collect old units / core back from the market.
The main driving forces behind this philosophy are:
• Environmental responsibilities: Mini-mizing pollution; minimizing waste; ensuring appropriate disposal where the products or components cannot be reused.
• To prevent broken, damaged or worn out safety-critical products being misused for reconditioning activities by non-authorized parties.
• To ensure the availability of high quality Knorr-Bremse remanufactured pro-ducts in the market place and thereby protect customers from potential safety issues that could arise from non-authorized parties repairing or reconditioning old units.
In order to support this approach, it is therefore important that the core is returned, following the Knorr Bremse core policy and procedures. In this context, and to facilitate the whole process apart from other core related documents and tools, the Knorr-Bremse SfN Core Manual has been created.

Knorr-Bremse SfN Core Program
Core Banking
Knorr-Bremse will maintain a customer core bank showing the balance between core products purchased and returned. Core bank data is set up by core due date, core group and core class. Core groups are established by similarity of design features. See Core Groups and Core Classes section of this manual for further details. Customer core accounts will be set up and tracked for each separate core group.
Core statements will be provided monthly showing any transactions during the month, the month end balance and core due for upcoming months. Returned core during that month will be credited if the customer is eligible for it. The credit is always applied against the oldest outstanding purchase within the same core group. See Core Reports section of this manual.
In case of any questions concerning core statements please contact your local Knorr-Bremse Sales representative or your Knorr-Bremse contact for core.
If the core is not returned to Knorr-Bremse within the defined time window the core value will expire and be cleared from the core bank. Over-returned core without any purchases against it will expire after 24 months.
Customer core accounts will be
set up individually and tracked for
each core group.
be returned within the scope of the core program. These are also included in the Core Identification section of this manual.
Knorr-Bremse reserves the right to accept competitor core within certain core groups if interchangeable with Knorr-Bremse products as long as it is returned as a result of the sale of an equivalent Knorr-Bremse product. See the Cross Reference section of the website www.knorr-bremseCVS.com for interchangeable products or contact your local Knorr-Bremse Sales repre-sentative for further details.
In order to ensure that a core product that is part of the Knorr-Bremse pro-gram will be accepted for core credit, it must be returned fully assembled and in a suitable condition. Please take care with handling to prevent additional damage or wear. Wherever possible the old product should be returned in the packaging of the replacement product. See Core Return section of this manual for further details.

Knorr-Bremse SfN Core Program
With regard to transfer of ownership, core accounts can be transferred only when the future ownership of an active business entity is set up as a Knorr-Bremse SfN Independent Aftermarket customer already. Previous ownership must have good account standing with Knorr-Bremse SfN.
In case of accepted warranty claims, goods returned, buybacks or incorrect invoicing for core parts, the core value will be compensated immediately if invoicing has already been made. The core bank will then show a negative purchase for the relevant item.
For expired and rejected core, Knorr-Bremse reserves the right to scrap the material. If the customer wants to collect the core, Knorr-Bremse will provide core from the same core group and charge a handling fee.
Knorr-Bremse retains the right, at any time, to close core groups or core classes or close a customer account when considered necessary. In the case of this occurrence, Knorr-Bremse will offer the following options:
• Customers with open core in the core bank will have the possibility to return core against open purchases, within the current core window.
• Customers with over-returned core can, at the discretion of Knorr-Bremse, either be permitted to collect the amount of core within the same core group with one month’s prior notice, or Knorr-Bremse will re-purchase such core at the scrap value; the overall value not to exceed any outstanding accounts receivable balance.
The core program guarantees
service and quality on a high level!

Knorr-Bremse SfN Core Program
• Ensure that containers are adequately sealed or banded for transportation using plastic strapping or banding (no metal). Containers deemed unsafe by Knorr-Bremse may be returned and transport costs will be recovered.
• If own transport is used please contact your Knorr-Bremse representative for detailed delivery advice.
Please be aware that all returns of core must be accompanied by a completed Goods Collection Request Form. This must be attached to each container, and Knorr-Bremse and the transport agent needs to be informed at this time. Failure to do so may result in core returns not being credited before expiration and hence surcharge will not be refunded. See details above.
Core Return
How to return core using Knorr-Bremse’s or own transport?
• A Goods Collection Request Form is available from your local Knorr-Bremse representative – see example in Appendix of this manual. An elec-tronic version may also be available at www.knorr-bremseCVS.biz.
• Complete the form, send a copy to your contact at Knorr-Bremse and attach another copy to the goods. Please ensure that the approximate total weight has been entered on the form.
Note, it is preferred to have one form placed in an envelope and attached to each container. Failure to do this or supply any required information on the form, will result in a delay in having the return collected and processed in the system.
• Knorr-Bremse will add the Core Return Memo (CRM) number for that delivery when processing the returned core in the system. For this purpose it is necessary that the current date is provided at the time when the copy of the Goods Collection Request Form is sent to Knorr-Bremse. KnorrBremse will email acore acknowledgement after the core return has been processed. The CRM number can be used as a reference later.
• Pack old units into suitable containers, taking care to avoid damage to units both when packing and during transit. If a fork lift truck is required to move the container, please ensure that the container has ground clearance to enable lifting without splitting or dam-aging the container.
Return core promptly to avoid the
risk of losing surcharge entitlement!

Knorr-Bremse SfN Core Program
Thank you in advance for your
continued support of this program
which allows us to maintain the
required Aftermarket Service and
Quality levels in the market place
What is a major damaged part?
• Compressors with a broken crankshaft, cracks, dents or holes in crankcase or cylinder block, damaged mounting flange.
• Actuators with cracks, dents or holes in cylinder case or head.
• Air dryers, brake servos, calipers, electronic air control units, EBS modules or EBS electronic control units, electronic clutch actuators with cracks, dents or holes in major body housing or castings.
What is an incomplete or disassembled condition?
• Calipers not returned complete with adjuster in place.
• EBS modules or electronic control units, electronic air control units and electronic clutch actuators not returned fully assembled and complete.
• Knorr-Bremse accepts that certain products may have been partially disassembled (see note) before removal from the vehicle, e.g. for internal inspection. However, returned core must be complete and reassembled in a safe to handle condition.
Note:
Knorr-Bremse accepts no liability for such disassembly activities and the workshop must ensure all safe prac-tices are followed.
Why would Knorr-Bremse reject old units that have been returned?
• No Goods Collection Request Form is attached to the returned core.
• Core parts returned are not part of the core program.
• Competitor core is not interchange-able with Knorr-Bremse products.
• Core suffered major damage and is not in a reusable condition. See further details below.
• Core returned is incorrectly or incompletely assembled or in a disassembled condition. See further details below.
• Core has pipe fittings or pipe work still attached.
• Core has been reconditioned by a non-authorized 3rd party.
Core rejected by Knorr-Bremse will be flagged with S for scrap on the core acknowledgement report. Accepted core will be flagged with G for good core. It is solely up to Knorr-Bremse to decide whether a unit will be accepted or rejected.
