One of the benefits of being your president is I get to have my fingers in all the pies. No, I’m not talking about Chef Meeker’s fine desserts. Rather, I’m referencing all of the things happening here at Glenmoor. Over the past months, I’ve attended several of our busy committee meetings. The work that these committee members accomplish is impressive and I wish that everyone could see them in action…like I can.

As I think about it--as the great and powerful Oz--I hereby decree that this shall be so: Any member can attend any committee meeting at any time. And, furthermore I extend this invitation to any spouse of any member. It’s an open invitation to attend committee meetings of your choice at any time throughout the year, from this time forward. You can find the meeting days and times listed on the newsletter calendar. And to

quote Tom Petty, “It feels good to be king!”

Actually, the fact is that members have always been welcome to attend committee meetings! And you don’t even have to be an official committee member. But, the one thing I believe is this: You should get involved. If you have ever said to yourself, “I don’t like this” or “I would change that,” then you have the makings of a terrific committee member, because our interests are the same: moving the club forward.

Remember that you don’t have to join a committee to attend a meeting. But, after doing so, you may find that you would enjoy becoming more involved. And that doesn’t need any decree!

Over the course of the year, numerous charitable and civic events are held at Glenmoor. We’re honored to host these events here and support them in every way possible to maximize their potential. They are often publicized in this newsletter and we encourage you to participate in these events that ultimately help make the world around us a better place.

One such event I would like to focus on is the upcoming Bert L. Wolstein Legacy Tournament. As you know, Glenmoor is a result of the vision and dedicated efforts of Mr. and Mrs. Wolstein. In addition to their success in business, they were also quite a force in the world of philanthropy. Since Mr. Wolstein’s passing in 2004, Mrs. Wolstein has continued adding on to their legacy of giving with major gifts to United Cerebral Palsy, the Ohio State University, Cleveland Marshall College of Law, University Hospitals, Case Western Reserve University and many more beneficiaries both large and small. The Wolstein Legacy Tournament, held here annually has raised over $1.5 million for worthy causes in its first nine years. This year’s event is scheduled for July 19 and it truly is a golf event like none other. I encourage you to participate or donate in any way you can to this wonderful event in Mr. Wolstein’s memory.

Manager’s Message by Myron Vernis, General Manager

Summer is officially under way here at Glenmoor, and don’t we deserve a good one? Be sure not to let the summer get away from you and miss all of the fun we are having here at the Club! If you want to know where to start then I have to mention a few “must do’s”! TGIF every Friday on the patio is a must do this summer. Live music, great themes and fantastic food makes TGIF on the patio a hit every time. 4th of July, of course, needs no explanation, it’s the best fireworks show in town, activities for the whole family and LaFlavour to top off the night. Then of course we have the White Party on August 10th! Now I haven’t even mentioned the children’s golf, tennis and swim programs, as well as the adults. There is also our Father’s Day Cookout, Red, White & Brew, yoga at sunrise or corn hole out on the lawn by the patio! To keep up with all of these great opportunities be sure to follow us on Facebook, check out the blog and keep an eye on your email for “This Week at Glenmoor” every Monday! See you all at the Club!

Membership Corner by Gretchen Fernandez, Membership Director

Are you familiar with the 80/20 rule - 80% of the work is done by 20% of the people? Well, I was recently reviewing the number of Prospective Members who were referred to Glenmoor last year by current Glenmoor Members. Do you know that only 5% of our current Members even gave a name of a Prospective Member to the Membership Department. Thank you to those of you who did refer someone! If we could get just 20% of our Membership to give 1 name…we’d more than likely double our enrollments from last year! The more Members we have, the better Glenmoor is for everyone.

Please take a minute to think of someone you know who might be interested in learning more about Membership at Glenmoor. I’d love to invite them out for a tour…or you can invite them to our Prospective Member event in June, the Prospective Member TGIF on Friday, June 7th . The

Membership Committee works hard to put on great events that make it easy for you to invite a friend, so please make plans to attend. We’d love to see 100% of you here!

Have a great start to your summer…it is a wonderful time to be at Glenmoor!Gretchen Fernandez, Membership Director Membership Office: 330-966-3600 [email protected]

The Ladies begin June with the Medallion Tournament on the 20th and the 27th. The popular Men’s Ryder Cup Tournament will take place later in June on the 22rd and 23th. The Junior League will begin on June 5th this season. The additional dates are June 6, 13, 20, 27, and July 10 and 11. Please contact Meg Glass at [email protected] to obtain more information and to register.

See you on the course!

Greetings from the Golf Shop by Shawn Grimes

Turf Talk by Rob MillerThe grounds crew took advantage of the great weather in May to get the course and club in shape for a

full summer of activity. Many old trees in the front of the club have been taken down giving the clubhouse a new look. In addition, a few of the older trees by the back patio have been trimmed up to allow more sunlight through. The bunker project has been completed with 400 tons of new sand added to the bunkers. Many of the bunkers have had the liner replaced as well. Another project that has been done to give Glenmoor a new look is the mulch area around # 8 lake. The mulch has been raked off and seed added to this area. As the turf fills in and thickens this will give a cleaner, more manicured look to all who enter through Glenmoor’s gates.

As Glenmoor nears its 21st anniversary it is doing so with a fresh new look in many areas around the club as well as the course.

Team Member of the MonthCongratulations to Mary Beth Dorner, our newest Team Member of the Month! Mary Beth has

been with Glenmoor since March 2006. She is the hotel housekeeping floor supervisor but can also be found working in all areas of the club and spa. In her supervisor position, Mary Beth is the key trainer for new employees and is a true encourager of those she works with. Mary Beth is one of the original team members of the Glenmoor Connectors. In this role, she enthusiastically promotes the importance of Membership to her coworkers. We are fortunate to have her here!

When she is not at work, Mary Beth enjoys making jewelry, volunteering at Pegasus and is a talented gardener. She often brightens the day of her fellow team members with fresh flowers from her garden. Thanks, Mary Beth, for all you do!

What’s Cooking Chef Meeker?

Dining News by Randy May, Food and Beverage Director

Well, this June marks me at eight years as Glenmoor’s Executive Chef. As I start my ninth season here at Glenmoor I would like to thank all my staff for all the hard work they have contributed to ensuring my tenure. I am often asked about who is in the back and who the unsung heroes of the kitchen are. You may know Bob, Garon, Mary & Moe but here are three people I am very proud of that you might not know.

Vera Veloff, who was the first person I hired as a dishwasher eight years ago. She has blossomed to one of my strongest kitchen staff from the pasta bar to her fantastic European Baking. She has become one of the pillars of the kitchen.

Rosilee Mclaughlin, who also started out as a dishwasher but has helped me with Men’s League and is working hard each day to become a great Team member in the Banquet Kitchen. I am very proud of her determination and dedication to learn our craft.

Joe Ybarra, you have probably seen Joe walking to work in cold, rain & snow. He is our head dishwasher who also is in charge of our storerooms, organizing the coolers and putting away all the fresh produce, meats and dairy. Joe has become my right hand and truly has the Glenmoor spirit; he is passionate and proud to represent the Glenmoor Country Club.

I would like to take this time to thank these people personally and say we could not do it without them.

It’s summertime- the promise of warmer weather… at least we think. We are now on summer hours. The pool is open once again and the golf course is in “full swing”. You are soon to see aesthetic changes to the patio surroundings as Rob Miller and crew beautify this area.

Robert Ramsey will be assisting Gail Wigfield in managing the Pool, Patio and Scot’s Grille areas of the Club. All of last year’s pool service amenities will be in tact. You will also see a focus on Patio operations this season. Speaking of the Patio, don’t miss our annual Father’s Day Steak Cook-Out Sunday, June 16th as we celebrate “Dad”. Don’t forget that breakfast is now served in Scot’s Grille everyday except Monday from 6:30am -10:30am. The Patio is open Tuesday through Sunday until 9:00pm.

The Loch Bar is boasting of its latest addition to the menu - tapas! Come in for a cocktail and experience the wonderful flavors of all ten tapas plates. There’s a “small plate” for everyone. Tuesday is “Two Tapas Tuesday. Get two for the price of one.

I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you that we have something different brewing on the Beverage Cart. Yes, at the request of several Members, we have three IPAs on the cart - “Hazed and Infused Session”, “Breckenridge Lucky You” and “Carlsberg”. Be sure to inquire with Debbie or Kim.

This month marks our one year anniversary of preparing tableside menu items in the Black Heath. All five items: Caesar Salad, Steak Diane, Shrimp Scampi, Dover Sole and Bananas Foster are incredibly popular. Curious? Make your reservation today and experience the experience!

Last but not least, Friday, June 28 is “Red, White and Brew.” Join Martin of Vanguard, Jeff of Vintner Select, Amy of Cutting Edge, Pete of Purple Feet, Florey of Vintage, Kathleen of Wine Trends and Nick of Cavalier as they feature many hot red and white wines and trendy microbrews. If you enjoy wine and are interested in Wine Society, please contact me and I will be happy to explain the details of Glenmoor’s successful program.

Have a safe and restful summer and I’ll see you in the Club soon!

The Bertram Inn Member Rewards Program is booming in the 2nd quarter. We have one month left and we are close to giving out over $1,000 in Member Rewards! Thank you to all the Member that take advantage of this rewarding Membership perk.

It’s not too late for you to start earning your Member Rewards! All you have to do is reserve overnight rooms at the preferred Member Rate for your family, friends and colleagues at The Bertram Inn at Glenmoor. Now, is the perfect time to reserve overnight rooms. It’s officially summer and that means graduations, family reunions and weddings. Whatever the occasion may be we are here to provide the best service and quality to your Guest.
