Road Construction Reflections Week 4 of road construction is almost in thehistory books, and as each day passes I amhappy to be one day closer to being finished! I am proud with how our community has cometogether for this necessary road transformation tomake Main Street safer, more efficient, andbeautiful. Waunakee truly deserves this!
As I get around town and talk to people the consensus is that they aresettling in and have found their own "alternate" routes...life is continuingin Waunakee. But, as always in my position, as your voice for businessand creating commerce, I worry about those directly affected. I knowthat many of you are experiencing a decrease in sales, and less lunchand dinner crowds. That was a reality that we knew would be the truthno matter how much we prepared and planned. I enjoyed the extended Memorial Day Weekend with my family. Iattended the American Legion Post 360 event at Village Park honoringthose who have served our country. I listened to the names of all thepeople who have died, recognizing many long time family names ofthose that have shaped Waunakee. I felt an overwhelming sense ofemotion as I was reminded of my blessings in the life I live here inWaunakee, raising my family and working in a town I love! I walkedback home along Main Street and I witnessed change, but with that Isaw progress! July 4th will soon be here, then WaunaFest, and Labor Day...theanticipated end date of the road construction. Please remember topatronize our local business community more than ever this summer.Your decisions do make a difference. Buying LOCAL is the "it" buzzphrase these days, but it is so important. When we can keep ourmoney in Waunakee, local tax dollars help to support not only ourbusinesses, but also our Schools, Neighborhoods, Police, Fire, EMS,and our Roads and Infrastructure...all of which impact the quality of lifethat we enjoy. -Ellen Schaaf, Executive Director Waunakee Area Chamber of Commerce

Family-friendly places to fish have some or all of these qualities:
Family-friendly location: Within an hour's drive of a major city or town,
so they are easily accessible
Have a public body of water that is known for having plenty of common
fish species such as bass, crappie, bluegill and trout. Often times
these public places are stocked with fish for all.
Part of a park that also offers amenities families need like parking,
restrooms, playgrounds, picnic areas, or campgrounds
Has plenty of places to cast a line, like a fishing pier or has boat
ramps to allow you to reach other areas on your boat
Is recommended by other anglers! Anglers from around the U.S. cast
their vote and thought these parks offered some of the best fishing
spots

Waunakee Community School District Message
Dear Members of the Waunakee Area Chamber ofCommerce, As you are aware, our School District is growing. We have grown by 510 students (K-8) since 2005and expect 200 more by 2020. We are committedto finding a solution through a long-term FacilitiesMaster Plan that supports teaching and learning, and one that recognizes the input of our staff andcommunity. To guide decision-making for aNovember 2014 referendum addressing facilityoptions, we are launching an importantcommunity-wide survey to all households; in factyou should have received the survey in your mail.
All adult school district residents can take the
survey by hard copy (returning with a postage
paid envelope) or online using a randomly-
generated access code. Additional access codes
for other adult members in the home are available
through the District Office by calling 849-2000.
The survey will close on Wednesday, June
11th and School Perceptions will share the results
at a special School Board meeting on Monday,
June 23 at 6:30pm. The final survey report will
also be posted on our website.
We recognize that this is an exceptionally busytime of year for staff, parents and many others in
