He was a key figure in the foundation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945, as well as the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) and the Viet Cong (NLF) during the Vietnam War until his death in 1969
JFK
Kennedy made it clear that he would continue the policy of the former President, Dwight Eisenhower, and support the government of Diem in South Vietnam. Kennedy also made it plain that he supported the ‘Domino Theory’ and he was convinced that if South Vietnam fell to communism, then other states in the region would as a consequence.

1957 Guerilla Warfare begins
Communist leaders like Mao Zedong and North Vietnamese Ho Chi Minh both implemented guerrilla warfare giving it a theoretical frame which served as a model for similar strategies elsewhere
Operation Gray CloudOperation Gray Cloud was the unofficial name of an unregulated mission conducted to create good relations between American soldiers and Montagnard Vietnamese in the village of Dak Nhe.
Tet Offensive
The purpose of the offensive was to utilize the element of surprise and strike military and civilian command and control centers throughout South Vietnam, during a period when no attacks were supposed to take place.

Nixon
Until spring 1968 Nixon believed the U.S. would win the Vietnam War. Only when he heard of Johnson beginning to withdraw, he accepted that the war could not be won by the U.S..
Ford
One of Ford's greatest challenges was dealing with the continued Vietnam War. American offensive operations against North Vietnam had ended with the Paris Peace Accords, signed on January 27, 1973. The accords declared a cease fire across both North and South Vietnam, and required the release of American prisoners of war.
