Before the presidency After the war he took

a job as the president of Columbia University

He was later granted command of the NATO forces

Some Republicans in Paris convinced him to run for president in the early 50’s on their ticket

Job Training His job training mainly came from his being a

general in the military. He took this and applied it to his presidency by

using the threat of force to make enemies back down

Suez Canal Crisis When the Suez Canal crisis

occurred Eisenhower threatened to use nuclear weapons on all involved if hostilities did not cease.

The U-2 Incident

In 1960 a US pilot in a U-2 plane was shot down while taking pictures of the Soviet Union

This led to the Soviet leader Khrushchev to not attend a scheduled peace summit out of anger

I Like Ike The motto for his campaign was “I Like Ike”

The Interstates

Eisenhower saw the autobahn system in Germany and realized the US needed one too for military transportation

Quotes A people that values its

privileges above its principles soon loses both

From behind the Iron Curtain, there are signs that tyranny is in trouble and reminders that its structure is as brittle as its surface is hard.

Don't join the book burners. Do not think you are going to conceal thoughts by concealing evidence that they ever existed.

Any man who wants to be president is either an egomaniac or crazy
