Slide 2 By the group of Joe, Mary, Ted and Louise Slide 3 Coniferous biomes are located south of the tundra biomes. The soil thaws every spring making the floor wet and swampy. This biome is also called taiga, a Russian name that means swamp forest. The locations of coniferous forest biomes are Alaska and the higher elevations of the Rocky Mountains. Coniferous forest are cold and receive 50-125 cm of rainfall. Slide 4 Needle-leaved trees/conifers such as firs, spruce, pines and Redwoods Wolves Deer Beavers Hares Bears Moose Slide 5 The word moose comes from the Algonquin Indians. They called the animal mooswa, which means twigeater. The moose is the worlds largest deer. They can run 35 mph and swim 10 miles. Moose eat leaves, twigs, buds and bark of some woody plants. They can also feed underwater. Slide 6 Redwoods tower over all the other trees in the world. A team of researchers have found about 135 redwoods that reach higher than 350 ft. Coast redwoods can survive to be over 2,000 years old.
