Remembrance Day Prayer Service

IntroductionWe remember the many brave men and women who have given their livesthrough the history of our country to protect us from danger and harm. We salute all those who served in the military, the police and the fire departments. We also remember all those who sustained injury in mind and/or body in the course of their service.

Opening Song (play video)

Never Let Go - Remembrance DayBy: Bryan Adams

Blessing

Let us begin in the name of the

Father,

and of the Son,

and the Holy Spirit

Amen.

Opening PrayerLet us pray.Loving God, you sent us your Son to bring your peace to the world. Help us to work for peace in our homes, our school, our city and our world. Protect all soldiers who are at war and bring them home safely to their families. Grant peace and consolation to the family members of soldiers who are grieving the loss of a loved one due to wars. We ask this through Christ, our Lord.   All: Amen.

Gospel Reading (John 15:13-14)

A reading from the Gospel according to John.

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.  You are my friends if you do what I command.”

The Word of the Lord…

All: Thanks be to God.

Scripture Reading (Psalm 23)

A reading from the book of Psalm.

The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures,

he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley,

I will fear no evil, for you are with me;

your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,

and I will dwell in the house of the LORD

forever.

All: Amen

Ceremony11:11 am - One minute of Silence.

 Reading: In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields, the poppies grow between the crosses, row on row, that mark our places; and in the sky the larks, still bravely singing, fly scarce heard amongst the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago we lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, loved and were loved, and now we lie in Flanders fields.

Instrumental O Canada

Reflection: Until the end of O Canada

Prayer of Faithful

May the Holy Spirit help us to think and act as Jesus would have, we pray…

Response: Lord, let there be peace.

That our country may continue its leadership role as peacekeepers throughout the world, we pray…

Response: Lord, let there be peace.

That everyone throughout the world may know peace and freedom as we do in Canada, especially children whose lives are affected by wars, we pray…

Response: Lord, let there be peace. That the nations of the world who believe in freedom and democracy may continue to fight for peace in all lands, we pray…

Response: Lord, let there be peace.

That we in our school community may continue to treat each other with respect and dignity, so that we may live peaceably together, we pray…
