Our task
• We were faced with the task of thinking about what we would do if we were president.
• This was very hard to do as a class because we all had different opinions and we felt very strong about them.
• We decided early on that we were going to discuss any topics that came up and if we didn’t agree on something, we would work out a compromise.
Mission/Goal
• We would be a leader with a mission or goal.• We would know exactly what we want to get
done in our presidential term, and how to execute it.
• The purpose of having a goal is to know what you are doing, and have a plan of order.
Organization
• We would be organized. – No loose files or papers– No delaying issues for the next day
• Organization is defined as ‘the structure or arrangement of related or connected items’– There will be a structure for everything
• The importance of being organized is to keep track of everything and have it in order.
Communication Skills
• To be a good leader, we would have good communication skills.
• As seen in the recent presidential debate, the President needed to be able to convey his thoughts and ideas clearly.
• The importance of communication skills is so the citizens will understand what you have to say.
Honesty
• Honesty is defined as ‘the quality of being upright or straightforward’– Telling the truth, stating the facts
• Honesty is always important, especially when you are a leader.
• If a leader is not honest, the citizens will not believe what they say.
Taxing
• We would lower tax rates for– Small businesses– Lower-Class– Middle-Class
• We would raise the tax rates for– Upper-Class
• It wouldn’t be fair if all classes worked just as hard as the others and had to pay the same amount of taxes while receiving differing incomes.
Healthcare
• We would mainly keep healthcare as it is except for 1 main point.– We would give free healthcare in life and death
situations.
Women’s Rights/Gay Rights
• Women’s Rights- Abortion is legal but won’t be funded by the government.
• Gay Rights– The church and state are separated.– The Gay marriages would be official under the
law, known as “civil unions”, and not under the church.
– The relationship could be known as both a “marriage” and a “civil union” for those who prefer to use either term.
Leaders
• If our leaders today cannot get along, how can anything get done?
• Being good leaders-Try not fight-Put differences away
-Open up our minds-Listen
• Could accomplish a lot this way-Compromise
Freedom
• As a class, we think that giving the people the freedom that they deserve is most important.
-We believe that women should be free to choose to abort their unborn babies.-We additionally believe that gay people
should be free to “marry” their partner.
Fairness
• Another priority is being fair towards the citizens.
-We agreed that taxing the lower income individuals/households at an equal or
higher rate than higher income individuals/ households is unfair.-The same principle goes for small
businesses and large businesses.
Helping Citizens
• Help citizens, not harm them• Make sure citizens
-Make sure our fellow Americans keep their rights
-Agree with policies-Get what they want
Legendary Leaders
• As leaders of the free world we would -Stay as organized as possible.-Stay honest and communicate our mission and goal.-Change taxing on small businesses, lower income and middle-class people.-Change part of the current healthcare
policy.-Allow abortion and civil unions for gay.
Cont.
• We would not turn on each other during discussions by
- Try not to fight by putting differences aside
-Compromise, listen and get along to put ideas into action
• We would make the inhabitants a priority-Remember our residents’ right to freedom-Be fair when making laws and policies
