Do you Know who broke the color barrier ? Jackie Robinson did. He was the first African American player to play baseball. He had a wife named Rachel and a son named Jackie J.R.

The good thing was that he got drafted by the Dodgers. When he was with the Dodgers he got called names, and he received death threats. In 1947 he won rookie of the year, and also went to six all star games.

He was a true player, and he was also nice to others. He played 9 years in baseball (from 1947 to 1956). His number is retired but the only player in baseball who wares that number is Mariano Rivera.

After his 9 seasons with the Dodgers he became a broadcaster for ABC on march 17, 1965. He was the first African American to receive a network position broadcasting baseball. It is so sad that his life and his career ended when he had a heart attack and died at the age of 53.

Jackie Robinson is a legend not only because he was a great baseball player but because he helped break through the color barrier. With all of his hard work many African Americans were able to play baseball and to become sports broadcasters. His legend is remembered annually by having Jackie Robinson Day. every April 15.
