The Louisiana Purchase

The Louisiana Purchase was one of the largest real estate deals in history. The United States purchased the Louisiana territory from France at a price of 15$ million, or approximately four cents an acre. The Louisiana Purchase doubled the size of the United States and opened up North America to westward expansion.

Lewis and Clark

Lewis and Clark were both very brave men. Lewis was Thomas Jefferson’s secretary, Thomas Jefferson asked Lewis to lead the expedition and Lewis asked Clark to help and come along, Lewis knew Clark from the Army.

Route of Exploration

THE ROUTE OF EXPLORATION WAS THE ROUTE THAT LEWIS AND CLARK TRAVELED ON, THEY STARTED IN ST. LOUIS AND TRAVELED UP THE MISSOURI, CROSSED THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS, DOWN THE COLUMBIA RIVER , AND TO THE PACIFIC OCEAN

Sacagawea

Sacagawea was a Native American and she was about 14 or 15 years old. The name of her tribe was Shoshoni meaning Snake, the Shoshoni live next to The Rocky mountains and have a lot of horses. Sacagawea had a baby on the trip.

THIS IS A PRARIE DOG (ABOVE).LEWIS AND CLARK DISCOVERED THE PRARIE DOG.I FIND THE PRARIE EXTREMELY CUTE.

THIS A AMERICAN SILVERBERRY (ABOVE). LEWIS AND CLARK ALSO DISCOVERED THIS.

Seaman

SEAMAN WAS CAPTAIN LEWIS’S DOG, HE WAS A NEWFOUNDLAND AND WAS BROUGHT ALONG ON THE JOURNEY. HE CAUGHT A LOT OF BEAVERS AND SQUIRRELS FOR THE CREW, CLARK AND LEWIS.

Expedition Members THE EXPEDITION MEMBERS INCLUDED

CAPTAIN MERIWETHER LEWIS, AND WILLIAM CLARK. THE CREW HAD 31 MEMBERS. CHARLES FLOYD, PATRICK GASS, JOHN ORDWAY, AND NATHENIAL PRYOR. THEY WERE ALL SERGEANTS. THEY ALSO HAD MANY PRIVATES ON BOARD.

Transportation

LEWIS AND CLARK USED A 55 FOOT KEELBOAT 35 OARS, TWO HORSES, TWO OPEN BOATS, AND ONE SQUARE SAIL.

Conclusion THE LEWIS AND CLARK EXPEDITION WAS

IMPORTANT BECAUSE THEY WERE SENT BY THOMAS JEFFERSON TO MAP THE RIVERS, FIND A NORTH WEST PASSAGE , AND DISCOVER NEW PLANTS AND ANIMALS, AND THEY DID!
