Function Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum- Network of
channels that are created by membranes located in the cytoplasm
Found in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells
The Rough ER synthesizes
proteins for export to the outside
of the cell and enzymes to be
incorporated into cellular
organelles
Structure The rough ER gets its name from its surfaceappearance, whichis pebbly due to thepresence ofribosome's
The ER is composed of aphospholipid bi-layer embedded with proteins
Location
Pseudoachondroplastic Dwarfism
A rough-surfaced Endoplasmic Reticulum storage disease
Patients with pseudoachondroplastic dwarfism had indications of a specific ultrastructural defect—a storage in the rough-surfaced endoplasmic reticulum of inclusions with alternately electron-dense and electron-lucent layers
This disease is a rare inherited disorder consisting of skeletal malformations resulting in short legs and mild to moderate short stature.
