This story takes place in Seattle, Washington. The main character, Mick Johnson, is a fifteen year old boy who eats, breathes, and sleeps football. Though Mick has a lot of talent, he still isn't up to par when it comes to playing for his high school team. With the encouragement of his trainer, Mick begins to use “gym candy”.

Introduction

Mick Johnson is an athletic, fifteen year old boy who loves football. He grows up idolizing his father who played for the NFL. Later he finds out that his dad isn’t so perfect and couldn’t handle the NFL. He is determined not end up like his father. As a result, Mick makes some bad choices that will later cause great regret.

Protagonist

Mick’s biggest villian is himself. Even though he is one of the best players in the state, he feels that he needs to validate his performance by using “enhancements” to make himself better.

Antagonist

The main conflict is Mick constantly doubting his abilities when it comes to his performance in football. His insecurity leads him to using dangerous enhancements to better his game. Mick finds it hard to quit using the supplements after awhile. To help with his insecurities and use of supplements, Mick could seek counseling or special treatment.

Conflict

Mike Johnson DrewDrew is Mick’s best friend who is also on the football team. They are completely inseparable until Mick starts isolating himself. Even through their ups and downs, Drew is always there for him.

Mick’s father is his biggest inspiration until he finds out that he is an NFL bust. Although he failed, he still encourages Mick to be the best that he can be.

Minor Characters

Peter VolzPeter is Mick’s personal trainer who introduces him to the supplements that help better his game. Although he wants to help, he is actually destroying Mick’s body, mind, and life.

Critics

I think that this novel is amazing and gives you a chance to see into the mind of a young athlete who struggles with his inner securities. The numerous events and surprise ending make for a great novel and all around good book.
