Today, health care reform is no longer the exception, but the rule. The terms transformation, reformation and revolution are now “household names” and describe the new normal for the health insurance industry.

This environment of change has not been easy, particularly for an industry that is predicated on predictability. It’s been challenging, thrilling, exhausting, invigorating, hard and refreshing all at the same time. Change for change sake hasn’t been enough, either. The demand on all of us in the industry is strategic change, with an eye toward innovation. “Business as usual” no longer exists in the post-Affordable Care Act world, given that the ACA has fundamentally and forever changed the nation’s health care system.

Change in our industry is far from over, and the pace of change is only accelerating. This year alone will be marked by:

• A decision by the United States Supreme Court in a landmark dispute that hinges on whether the Internal Revenue Service may permissibly promulgate regulations to extend tax-credit subsidies to coverage purchased through exchanges established by the federal government under the ACA.

• Accelerated payment innovation driven to implementation through Ohio’s State Innovative Model initiative.

• Continued Medicaid transformation, through payment reforms; the modernization of eligibility and benefits; further access to home and community services; simplified eligibility determination; and better-coordinated, person-centric programs that will begin to uplift Ohioans in need.

• Laser focus on Ohio’s health care hot spots, including infant mortality, tobacco cessation, opiate overuse and abuse and high-risk health care consumers.

Now accustomed to revolution, Ohio’s health care leaders are “rethinking” all aspects of Ohio’s health care system, including access to care, care coordination and care management, population health, primary health care, improved outcomes, quality, costs, value-based purchasing, transparency, data utilization, integrated offerings and much more.

OAHP member plans are industry thought leaders, innovators and visionaries who will continue to lead the way to improve care delivery here in Ohio and across the country. Plans are driving change in the health care system to ensure Ohio’s consumers receive the right care, at the right time, in the right setting – all to improve the overall patient.

The 2015 OAHP Annual Convention and Trade Show is designed to motivate, encourage and inspire you to “rethink” how you view the health care that is provided to more than 8 million Ohioans.
