When did the Olympics Start?
• The first Olympics started in Greece.
• The place was called Olympia so it was called Olympics.
Red ribbons and Olympic Prizes.
Many Ancient pots show athletes wearing red ribbon, not just tied around their head, but some times also on their arms and their legs.
At the Ancient Olympics, the only prize was the crown of olive leaves cut from the sacred tree at Olympia.
What is the Olympics?
• Once every four years, men from all over Greece came to compete.
• This was called the Olympic games because the place was called Olympia.
• Today’s Olympic Games are based on What took place at Olympia, in Greece, nearly three thousand years ago.
