  • TIME FOR BUXTON TO FLY…….HIGH.. BY HORACE AZORE

Members and friends thank you all for being in the trenches with us. This past year’s work resulted in a good year for our CIMBUX Organiza- tion. We have managed to hit our project benchmarks. Our fundraisers were all successful and it has been a joy to receive your feedbacks and comments on our handling of all of CIMBUX’s projects. As a result of your timely suggestions and critiquing of each project or event, we were able to improve the subsequent ones. What was encouraging to the executive body were suggestions about new projects that could help the organization to function better in both North America and Guyana. Some of your ideas are similar in nature to what we do; hence, we will have thorough discus- sions and will attempt to launch a few of them with your help in the near future. Education has been and will continue to be CIMBUX’s main focus. Hence we will be working more closely with teachers, parents and education insti- tutions to assist in the improvement of our Buxton community. We are planning on increasing our decade old school supplies for all Elementary School children and teachers, providing more funds for the successful NG6-National Grade Six Assessments (formerly Common Entrance Ex- ams). CIMBUX will be implementing a new program to assist the students of Buxton Secondary and The New Technical Center. Also on the planning table is a thorough adjustment to our Kindergarten/Pre-school supplies program. The intent here is to assist in strengthening the building blocks

for more widespread success in this ever-evolving national system of education. We believe early ed- ucation when handled with care and deftness leads to wide spread success. We have given out awards for our Booker-Stephenson Medical and Stephenson Accounting Scholarships. Thanks to our donors Mr. Aubrey Stephenson and Dr. Maureen Booker-Stephenson without whom these would not have been possible. In a few months we will be doing our annual school supplies assistance for all elementary students. It is known that some schools produce better results than others. We the over- seas organizations should see ourselves as part guardians to some extent and to work sensibly and cooperatively so all can receive similar but a better and an ever dynamic quality of education regard- less of school. This in essence must be our Buxton formula which can be adjusted to the changes of the Buxton society. In this period, 2015- 2016, let us make Buxton a standard bearer with new meth- ods of how to train our children. The old ones are not working. Our hard working teachers need tre- mendous support and encouragement on both the individual staff and level; this is also part of CIMBUX’s plans. Parents we need for you to be on board with us and the teachers. We all have to look deep within ourselves and reactivate our creativity, courage, boldness and resilience to over- come this spirit of underachievement in our midst. Other groups have ongoing programs to benefit our schools. This is a good thing, but more support and understanding are needed. The ‘go it alone’ system takes us part of the way… we need to synchronize our efforts for maximum effect that can now take those efforts over the hill. It’s a new day. Let us encourage each other and most im- portantly our children and teachers in the Buxton community that in spite of the many short comings and distractions that are facing them… we have to forge ahead. A heart-felt thank you to everyone for supporting CIMBUX. Remember criticism is good but that alone

  • does not always work. Cooperation, intellect and action can put us in a great position to successfully conquer our challenges which will come, but with our supporters continued encouragement and help we will all advance together and create that charge that hopefully will ignite our entire Buxton com- munity to greater heights, while putting in place a stronger foundation on which present and future generations will stand. So…LET’S WORK TOGETHER…ONLY BUXTON CAN LOOK AFTER BUX- TON…ONLY BUXTON CAN FIX BUXTON. BUXTONIANS ARE NOT CHICKENS. WE ARE LIKE EAGLES, WE ARE STRONG, WE FLY HIGH AND FAR. We have some very inspiring articles in this edition of our newsletter, so please read and share. And YES we do accept donations. CIMBUX, Inc is recognized as a nonprofit organization with 501C3 status which allows contributions to be tax deductible. PLEASE CHECK OUR CALENDAR OF EVENTS AS WE LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT.

    PONDER THIS

When we were growing up as little children, our parents would repeat certain sayings and to some of us they became mantras…..’be watchful at all times’….’listen properly before speak- ing’…don’t forget your culture or your people’… ‘go to school and learn so that you can be better than your parents. These are just a few. Now as adults we can do a checklist on ourselves and query our level of success in following those warnings where we feel truly qualified with our attained levels to repeat those sayings with au- thority to the younger generation, our children? To each his own, our life stories are unique to each one of us hence we must not break the chain of communication from old (our previous generation) to young (us) and to the younger ( our children). We have to continue to motivate each other. This means we must recognize progress and positive works that were done by those before us and continue to rededicate ourselves to commu- nity service and our culture. Otherwise we create voids which will be filled with the unwanted, no time for short memory. We must always speak with a spirit of commit- ment to the cause of improving our wellbeing. There must be respectful dialogues about us at all levels. We must seek to create fresh energy in every conversation because Buxton matters to us all. We cannot let negatives grow roots among

us. We must be focused, be diligent, be respect- ful to each other in our thrust to improve our schools, our youths, village and our local econo- my. Let us participate in our business, Buxton busi- ness. WE MUST ALL BE ON THE SAME PAGE IN ORDER TO MOVE FORWARD. Time for all of us to ‘ganga’(have intelligent discourses) and do our job and ‘To build worthily with time’.
