From Values to Values-Based Leadership

• O’Toole suggests that a definition of values based leadership is hard to identify, but that….

“…followers are motivated by leaders who hold out the promise of helping them to realize the things they hold most dear, that which they value.”

From Values to Values-Based Leadership

• O’Toole further suggests that…

“…the role, task, and responsibility of VBL is to help followers realize the most important ends that they hold dear but cannot obtain by themselves.”

Problem: Your start up firm, that you have poured your heart into, needs a CEO. How do you recruit and hire a CEO when you don’t really know what one does? Solution: You find one based on a “feel.” The feel is based on the fact that you believe the person will help the current employees develop, and serve the needs or your firm.
