The space, formerly located in Brick, now stands at 524 Brighton Ave. [Suite 4], Spring Lake, and offers thera- peutic massage, CranioSacral Therapy [CST], and profes- sional insight by Nejie Miran- da-Sylvester, of Spring Lake. Mrs. Miranda-Sylvester’s journey has led her to fulfill what she feels is a service to the public and humankind. Her mindful intention is to fa- cilitate the customer’s well- being through a combination of massage and CST, in addi- tion to the customer’s willing- ness to pursue overall health. At the very core of her be- lief is that, “The body has an innate way of healing itself. Sometimes, all the body needs is a safe, quiet environ- ment to activate the healing process.” A SPIRITUAL JOURNEY Mrs. Miranda-Sylvester has been accustomed to the health and fitness world since the 1980s. After getting married and having two children, she be- came a certified personal trainer and an aerobics in- structor with A.C.E Parade Pro Videos, located in Newark. She was successful in her early years of teaching fitness classes, and created her own instructional video, “Aero- sculpt,” in 1991, which taught a combination of aerobics and strength training. After herniating two discs in a car accident shortly after- ward, her fitness career came to a screeching halt. Mrs. Miranda-Sylvester was then introduced to and pursued a career in Massage Therapy and CranioSacral Therapy. She “did a lot of soul searching” from then on, she said, and candidly described this period in her life as a soulful “awakening.” Mrs. Miranda-Sylvester be- came a Board Certified Mas- sage/CranioSacral Therapist in 1993 and has since devoted her time and energy to her clients, friends and family, while nodding to the healing benefits of CST, since. In 2001, she began working with the Upledger Institute, where CranioSacral was first recognized and taught by Dr. John Upledger. Mrs. Miranda-Sylvester is featured in his book, “Work- ing Wonders, Changing Lives with Cranio Sacral Therapy for the Upledger Institute” where she can be found in her very own chapter, along with other CranioSacral therapists worldwide. DISTINGUISHING HER BUSINESS Discover Therapeutic Mas- sage offers an additional modality aside from tradition- al massage therapy, Cran- ioSacral Therapy [CST], which focuses on the body’s craniosacral system, encom- passing the brain and spinal cord. According to the business’ website, http://www.discov- ermassagebynejie.com/, CST “is a gentle, hands-on ap- proach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and im- prove whole-body health and performance. Using a soft touch, CST will assist the body to release restrictions in the soft tissue that surrounds the central nervous system, which consists of the brain and spinal cord.” Mrs. Miranda-Sylvester welcomes all clients on a wide spectrum, ranging from those simply seeking a thera- peutic massage to newborn babies to those suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disor- der, perhaps in need of CST. She incorporates both forms of massage into her treatments, as needed, and described her treatments as “subtle work.” Mrs. Miranda-Sylvester asks that her customers rec- ognize their own ability to heal, and that she hopes to fa- cilitate that process. When it comes to healing, she said, “It’s not just mas- sage. It’s whole body, mind and spirit.” She also recognizes that certain customers may not re- alize healing by way of mas- sage, in which case, she refers her clients to other profes- sionals who are equipped for each individual situation. Mrs. Miranda-Sylvester is attuned to the specific needs of each customer and has been successful in guiding her clients to better health on both a physical and mental level as well as emotionally and spiritually. DESTINED TO DANCE Mrs. Miranda-Sylvester will be revisiting her passion for dance while incorporating her efforts to help others. “What [was] missing was my movement,” she said. While she said she is utter- ly satisfied in her “work” — she was reluctant to call her practice “work,” because she enjoys it whole-heartedly — she is taking on an additional venture in the near future. Her passion for dance has finally come full circle. Mrs. Miranda-Sylvester will be teaching an interpretive dance class, called Soulful Awakening, in Lake Como this January. The class, rendered by movement and each individ- ual’s interpretation of music, will take place on Jan. 18 and is $15. Classes are located at Soul- ful Awakening, 1700 Main St., Lake Como. SERVICES OFFERED Discover Therapeutic Mas- sage is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 7 a.m to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, by appointment only. The three modalities of- fered include therapeutic massage, CranioSacral Thera- py and a combination of both. For a 60 minute session the cost is $80. For 90 minutes, the cost is $120. Therapeutic massage is the “manipulating of superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue using various techniques to aid function, the healing process and promote relaxation and well-being.” CranioSacral Therapy is a “light touch manual therapy that stimulates the cran- iosacral system, thereby en- hancing the body’s natural self-correcting tendencies and speeding up the healing process.” The last modality offered is a combination of the two.
