SPRING LAKE— Massage ther-apy is only a portion of whatcustomers can expect whenthey visit the newly-relocatedDiscover Therapeutic Mas-sage.The space, formerly located
in Brick, now stands at 524Brighton Ave. [Suite 4],Spring Lake, and offers thera-peutic massage, CranioSacralTherapy [CST], and profes-sional insight by Nejie Miran-da-Sylvester, of Spring Lake.Mrs. Miranda-Sylvester’s
journey has led her to fulfillwhat she feels is a service tothe public and humankind. Her mindful intention is to fa-cilitate the customer’s well-being through a combinationof massage and CST, in addi-tion to the customer’s willing-ness to pursue overall health. At the very core of her be-
lief is that, “The body has aninnate way of healing itself.Sometimes, all the bodyneeds is a safe, quiet environ-ment to activate the healingprocess.”
A SPIRITUAL JOURNEYMrs. Miranda-Sylvester has
been accustomed to thehealth and fitness world sincethe 1980s.After getting married and
having two children, she be-came a certified personaltrainer and an aerobics in-structor with A.C.E ParadePro Videos, located inNewark. She was successful in her
early years of teaching fitnessclasses, and created her owninstructional video, “Aero-sculpt,” in 1991, which taughta combination of aerobics andstrength training. After herniating two discs
in a car accident shortly after-ward, her fitness career cameto a screeching halt.Mrs. Miranda-Sylvester
was then introduced to andpursued a career in MassageTherapy and CranioSacralTherapy. She “did a lot of soul
searching” from then on, shesaid, and candidly describedthis period in her life as asoulful “awakening.”Mrs. Miranda-Sylvester be-
came a Board Certified Mas-sage/CranioSacral Therapistin 1993 and has since devotedher time and energy to herclients, friends and family, while nodding to the healingbenefits of CST, since. In 2001, she began working
with the Upledger Institute,
where CranioSacral was firstrecognized and taught by Dr.John Upledger.Mrs. Miranda-Sylvester is
featured in his book, “Work-ing Wonders, Changing Liveswith Cranio Sacral Therapyfor the Upledger Institute”where she can be found in hervery own chapter, along withother CranioSacral therapistsworldwide.
DISTINGUISHING HER BUSINESSDiscover Therapeutic Mas-
sage offers an additionalmodality aside from tradition-al massage therapy, Cran-ioSacral Therapy [CST],which focuses on the body’scraniosacral system, encom-passing the brain and spinalcord.According to the business’
website, http://www.discov-ermassagebynejie.com/, CST“is a gentle, hands-on ap-proach that releases tensionsdeep in the body to relievepain and dysfunction and im-prove whole-body health andperformance. Using a softtouch, CST will assist thebody to release restrictions inthe soft tissue that surroundsthe central nervous system, which consists of the brainand spinal cord.”Mrs. Miranda-Sylvester
welcomes all clients on awide spectrum, ranging fromthose simply seeking a thera-peutic massage to newbornbabies to those suffering from
Post-Traumatic Stress Disor-der, perhaps in need of CST.She incorporates both
forms of massage into hertreatments, as needed, anddescribed her treatments as“subtle work.”Mrs. Miranda-Sylvester
asks that her customers rec-ognize their own ability toheal, and that she hopes to fa-cilitate that process. When it comes to healing,
she said, “It’s not just mas-sage. It’s whole body, mindand spirit.”She also recognizes that
certain customers may not re-alize healing by way of mas-sage, in which case, she refersher clients to other profes-sionals who are equipped foreach individual situation.Mrs. Miranda-Sylvester is
attuned to the specific needsof each customer and hasbeen successful in guidingher clients to better health onboth a physical and mentallevel as well as emotionallyand spiritually.
DESTINED TO DANCEMrs. Miranda-Sylvester will
be revisiting her passion fordance while incorporatingher efforts to help others.“What [was] missing was
my movement,” she said. While she said she is utter-
ly satisfied in her “work” —she was reluctant to call herpractice “work,” because sheenjoys it whole-heartedly —
she is taking on an additionalventure in the near future. Her passion for dance has
finally come full circle.Mrs. Miranda-Sylvester will
be teaching an interpretivedance class, called SoulfulAwakening, in Lake Comothis January. The class, rendered by
