Once the Department of Employee Relations has been granted authorization by the Office of General Counsel, you will be advised to initiate an employee's separation. Death: Separation of an employee due to employee death requires receipt of a certified death notice which must be sent to the Department of Employment to process the request.

Separate Employee Trigger: Concept Job Aid and Business Process

Purpose There are three types of employee separations from the University: Voluntary Separation, Involuntary Separation and Death. Each separation is handled differently. Hiring managers must discuss each separation with the Department of Employment in order to process each type of separation. Voluntary Separation: Upon receiving written notification from an employee, notify the Department of Employment of an employee's desire to voluntarily resign from a position. The manager also has the responsibility to: ¬ Complete all separation activities (collect all University equipment including ID, keys, passwords, Department credit cards, access cards; ¬ Remind the employee to contact the Benefits Department for benefits advice; ¬ Retrieve any designated checks from Payroll (if required); ¬ Contact the employee to arrange for check pickup (if required). 1. Begin by navigating to the Job and Personal Information pages. Click the Manager Self Service link.

4. The Separate Employee page will display. Verify the Effective Date is correct: this date should be the first day of the employee's separation. If the Date is not correct, either type the date or click the Calendar Look Up and make a selection. Click the Continue button.
