or years Chambers of Commerce, along with most sectors of business, have been asking the key questionof how to remain relevant in a rapid-

ly changing business climate. Chambersmust anticipate membership needs andgrow to meet them, utilizing a short termand long term plan.

Last November Barbara Armstrong, BenWillis and Michelle Colvard arranged for aspecial guest to facilitate at our annualboard retreat. Renowned speaker Chuck

Ewart of The Ewart Group (www.theewart-group.com) facilitated a four-hour sessionwith your board of directors that wasfocused on strategic planning.

In February, Mr. Ewart returned to leadthe continuation of that work with a half-day focused on strategic planning andboard development. Areas of focus includ-ed delivering long-term value to our mem-bers, the role of the board in governance, and further development of our five-yearstrategic plan. “Membership Matters” will

be at the heart ofeach focus areaand it will be ourchallenge to createa roadmap thatcaptures equallythe energy of ourfourth quarter newmember and part-nership gains andthe unyieldingstrength of our existing membership.

Whether you are newly part of theCaldwell Chamber of Commerce or a long-term part of our Chamber family, you are atthe core of everything we do. The work ofyour board for 2017 will be to craft a strate-gic plan that helps to build increasing valuefor your membership, engage you in oppor-tunities to connect locally and regionally, and promote our businesses, communititesand assets beyond barriers and borders. We're looking beyond the Year of the Wintoward the many championship seasons tocome and we can't wait build that futurewith you!

Respectfully,Kimberly Edmisten
