The family of Kevin Suderman would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has reached out to us in this most difficult time. Thank you for your expressions of sympathy with phone calls, cards, gifts of food, flowers, a kind word in person, help received in the set up/clean up of the hall, attending Kevin’s Celebration of Life and for donations made in his memory to the Hanley Cen-tennial Hall, Hanley Golf Club and the Hanley Artificial Ice Project. We would also like to extend a special thank you to the following: cousin Lois – for her guidance, wisdom and for officiating as we celebrated Kevin’s life and laid him to rest; cousin Joan – for the beautiful music – we know Kevin would have loved it; the Pallbearers – for the special part you played in Kevin’s life and for honoring him; and to the United Church women for the wonderful lunch.
Sincerely,
The Suderman Family

FIRE PROTECTION
SAFETY TIPS FOR THE HOME
LIVING ROOM: Fireplace: always use a fire screen, ensuring it is the appropriate size for the fireplace opening.
Power bars should not be used to overload electrical outlets. Do not use extension cords in the place of
additional outlets.
Smokers should check furniture for fallen cigarettes or embers, which can smoulder undetected for
hour before bursting into flames.
Ensure careful use of smoking materials and extinguish in water before disposal.
Never leave cigarettes in an ashtray unattended.
Use ashtrays with a double rim and deep centre.
Keep matches, lighters and lit candles out of the reach of children.
Never leave lit candles unattended.
BASEMENT AND ATTIC:
Remove all combustible and flammable materials from the basement and attic.
Do not store gasoline in basements or attics! Store gasoline in well-ventilated areas, preferably out-
doors.
Do not store propane indoors.
Use only approved containers to store and transport gasoline.
Have a thorough yearly maintenance check of the furnace carried out by a professional.
When replacing an old furnace, consult a professional to determine the most safe, economical and effi-
cient system for your home.
Chimneys should be cleaned at least once a year.

ANIMAL CONTROL
Remember to purchase your dog and cat licenses for 2017 prior to Feb. 1 for $25 each animal! Our bylaw states that “every owner of a cat or dog that is over 4 months old shall, within 30 days of becoming the owner, obtain a license for each cat or dog.” The owner of the cat or dog shall ensure that the animal wears a collar to which the tag shall be attached whenever the animal is off the prem-ises of the owner.
The licenses expire Dec. 31 of the year purchased. We are unable to identify microchips, therefore the tag is necessary but the microchip information must be provided to the Town Office pri-or to Feb. 1 along with the annual license fee.
Kennel permits for breeders are $100 per year (Jan. 1 to Dec. 31) and also must be purchased prior to Feb. 1.

NOTES FROM THE TOWN OFFICE
At our August meeting: After attending a quarterly RCMP meeting, your representative Councillor McGregor reported that there is opportunity for purchase of an automated license plate reader available for this detachment so, the Council forwarded a letter of support for the program. The Waterworks Rate Policy was reviewed with minor changes made to the policy. A formal resolution supporting the development of an Agreement/Memorandum of Understanding with regional stakeholders and the Department of National Defense as signed and sealed by Mayor Gerbrandt on request of the committee was ratified. It was resolved that following the conclusion of the Building Canada Fund project for the Dundurn Rural Water Utility, the Council will pursue the request of a refund for the project. A Special Electronic Meeting was held to provide for the approval of Poor Gary’s Pub to be open daily including Sunday for the restaurant with the understanding that minors will be allowed in the restaurant for meals provided they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. Also at this Special Meeting, an Administrator holiday was approved. At our September meeting: The custom work rates were reviewed and increased to $120/hour with a minimum charge of $30. A property was declared a nuisance for overgrown vegetation, bushes and hedges. As no submissions were received for amendments to the Official Community Plan and Zoning maps, the bylaws were given third reading and adopted. A Civic Addressing bylaw was adopted for the Bodeman Court subdivision. Glen Pavelich (Firefly webs) of Kenaston was contracted to set up and maintain a new website for the Town of Hanley. Please contact the Town Office at [email protected] if there are any changes or additions you would like added to the website. This is a community website so make sure it is kept current! Due to the second Monday of October being a statutory holiday, the next regular Council meeting would be held on Oct. 3. An offer to purchase was received and accepted. A resolution was provided to proceed with tax enforcement with properties that have 2015 tax arrears. A lease agreement was renewed provided it was agreeable to the lessee. At our November meeting: As all Councillors and the Mayor were elected by acclamation, an Oath of Office was sworn and signed by each member. A clarification of the water main project was reviewed for Federated Co-operatives and a letter forwarded in regards to the procedure for applying for a Certificate of Completion. A bylaw was adopted to close a lane. No appeal was received for the nuisance declaration so Council approve to undertake action to remedy. Another property was declared a nuisance for overgrown vegetation. It was resolved to add utility arrears to a property that had remained unpaid after disconnection of service. After reviewing a quote for the design, production and installation of signed created for Olympian Taryn Suttie and with the support of the RM of Rosedale, a sign was ordered. The sign was erected on the Town sign coming into Town and it looks great! We are so proud of Taryn! The application for water connection was approved for Federated Co-operatives Limited. Tax exemption applications were approved for Federated Co-operatives Limited and Texcana Logistics.

NOTES FROM THE TOWN OFFICE continued…
"WITH LOVE, FROM IRAQ”, by Maureen Haddock is proof that love conquers all. Maysoon and Wajid are a true inspiration to Newcomers and born/bred Canadians alike. Their story had me captivated and in tears (both in pure sadness and heartfelt joy) from the second I opened the book until the very last word. This story of heartache, betrayal, resilience and determination will have you taking a closer look at your own life, as it did me. Too often, we take simple things like running water and a warm bed for granted, until we are forced to see the world through the eyes of people such as Maysoon and Wajid. Maureen Haddock did an AMAZING job of telling their story with the care of one who truly believes in the power of the written word and you can really see the love that she has developed for this wonderful couple throughout the years they have known each other. I HIGHLY recommend this book to everyone and anyone who is looking for an extremely powerful and life chang-ing story." Thank-You, Tammy
